To you, yes you, you lovely human,
Some days I’m so busy with work that I haven’t had a chance to look upwards and breathe it all in. Know what I mean? Then as we get ready for a show, I’ll be sat at the back of the auditorium while soundcheck begins; lights dim, the music starts, and life is miraculously lifted. The load is lighter and the sky clears. And I think, how lucky am I to get to witness this magic: the alchemy of music, or film, or poetry or comedy or the power of learning via incredible minds speaking on our stages. That feeling of having a plate too full with the chaos of this world becomes a full plate, brimming with possibility.
So, here we have it, Season 7, not a full plate loaded with burden, but a Plate Full. A plate full of wonder, excitement, connection, experiences, discoveries, and celebrations. It’s a plate full of spectacular variation. Over the course of just a few months you could be witness to, and part of, the first live show podcast recording by the brilliantly honest and hilarious Nadia Sawalha & Mark Adderly, learn how to take the plunge and dip into healing waters over our iciest months, cry laughing, float away listening to the live escapism created by a modern day bard reminding us that ancient English folk culture is global, or while away an afternoon swaying to the blues as if you’re in the ‘Delta, experience the wonder of theatre with a largerthan-life front row seat, create Christmas memories or madcap Halloween screams with Damian.
All of this, from a little heritage indie (more than just a-) cinema, nestled by the coast just outside Bristol. And this season we celebrate our history with an ode to 1996. The year that this treasure of a building was saved and taken into community ownership. We’ve got 35mm back up and running just as it was in ’96, free tours and brilliant batch of films from that year that made us. Look for the ‘1996’ badge in the programme and join us in a creative reflection on the power of community that was demonstrated so well that year by a small but mighty group of individuals coming together to preserve something historic for future use.

Journalist and doc-maker Abby Martin’s new film exposes the environmental impact of the US military. One of the most wellknown alternative media figures in the US, Abby will be joining us live via video-link for a Q&A with one of the UK’s most respected journalists and authors on the Middle East – Jonathan Cook. The film challenges audiences to rethink the hidden cost of a global military empire and its planetary consequences.

FREE PARTY: A FOLK HISTORY WITH EXHIBITION + Q&A
In collaboration with MayDay Rooms, an archive/resource space in London for social movements, experimental & marginalised culture. We will be screening Free Party, a documentary that charts the government crackdown on the free party and environmental movements of the early 90’s via the Criminal Justice Act and the Battle of the Beanfield. With a MayDay Rooms exhibition of archive material from groups such as J18, Reclaim the Streets, and ecological direct-action struggles. After the film, a Q&A on the interwoven topics from past to present, with Dr Oscar Berglund an expert on climate change activism and the criminalisation of protest.
TOURS, CELEBRATION + BRASSED OFF 35MM
Join us on Heritage Open Days we’ll open our doors for free behind-the scenes tours. There will be tea & cake in the bar, the organ playing, and expert tour guides on hand to talk you through our rich history. From 2pm we travel back to 1996, celebrating the year that the Curzon came into community ownership. Brassed Off will be playing in its original format on our 35mm projectors and the ’96 film will be at ’96 prices for this one-off special event!

Nadia Sawalha and Mark Adderley bring their two hit podcasts together for one unmissable night where, for the very first time, they’re recording the podcast live, with you, the audience.Merging their topical news show, Coffee Moaning, with the brutally honest marriage confessions of How To Stay Married So Far. Expect news, relationships, sex, family, mental health, and whatever’s got you moaning this week, all thrashed out live, unscripted, and unfiltered.

Nadia Sawalha is a household name, one of the original panellists on ITV’s Loose Women and one of the originating presenters of BBC’s The One Show. Other credits include EastEnders, Nadia’s Family Feasts and Living in the Sun. Mark Adderley is an award-winning, Oscar-qualified filmmaker, whose credits include short film The Gangbuster, several Nigel Slater documentaries for the BBC, and TV series including Wanted Down Under and Kitchen SOS. sledgehammer revealed: + David Sproxton & Susannah Shaw in conversation
Celebrating 50 years of Aardman, we are delighted to be joined by co-founder David Sproxton (CBE) who will be in conversation with Susannah Shaw after the film. Sledgehammer Revealed documents the making of the groundbreaking music video for Peter Gabriel. Including extensive interviews, behind the scenes stories and a fully-restored version of the legendary stop-motion video. Sledgehammer, which David was Director of Photography for, won a record-breaking 9 MTV awards and was the most played in MTV history. Pioneers of stop motion, Aardman started as a two-man partnership and grew to be one of the pre-eminent animation houses in the industry. Join us for an exploration of their work with co-Founder, Sir David Sproxton CBE and Susannah Shaw (ex-CEO of the Curzon who previously worked at Aardman in addition to creating the first animation course at UWE with Aardman).

A skate / Palestine event with a double bill of short films, live music stalls, and dj sets. Featuring EXIST, following Palestine’s first Olympic skateboarder Aram Sabbah as he wrestles with leaving a homeland in turmoil to send a message of resilience, resistance, and hope. Followed by Epicly Palestine’d which documents the birth of skateboarding in the West Bank and the beginnings of everyone’s favourite skate NGO, Skatepal. Stalls with merch and info run through the night with live music from Yemeni sound artist Intibint and DJ set from Nihal.
Jack Johnson grew up in Hawaii surfing one of the most dangerous waves on the planet, this doc follows his life journey from surfer, to film maker, to award winning musician, to environmental campaigner. This event is in collaboration with The Wave, eyes peeled for prizes.

We are delighted to welcome acclaimed singer/songwriter, Muco, to launch Clevedon’s new music festival Amplify! A modern-day bard, Muco’s music is shaped by a love of language and storytelling, full of folklore and mythology. This will be his only performance in the South West and will be a magical evening in our auditorium.
Blues Under The Skin + LIVE bands

A full afternoon of live bands plus rare screening of a blues cult classic. Live music comes from Kirris Riviere and The Delta De Bruit; blending deep southern blues, gospel, and swamp-rock the group has become one of the UK’s most exciting emerging blues acts. Dom Pipkin will be joining the line-up, keeping the New Orleans sound alive; his fans and collaborators are a who’s who list of music royalty – this is an event not to be missed. Blues Under The Skin transports us to 1973 and the Mississippi Delta capturing the remnants of authentic American blues. Including candid interviews and intimate performances by legends B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Mance Lipscomb, Bukka White, and Roosevelt Sykes and more.
LAURIE LEE: THE FOUR SEASONS + THE BRISTOL ENSEMBLE

Author of Cider With Rosie, Laurie Lee, gave very few interviews during his life. David Parker managed to break through that wall, resulting in a swathe of footage where Laurie Lee talks about his childhood, his love of music, and the huge influence of the Somerset countryside that he grew up in. Detailing a time that seems lost to history; the recordings were also lost for many years, with David finally re-finding them back in 2017.
Now, for the first time, Laurie’s poetic musings on the four seasons in the British countryside will be accompanied by the Bristol Ensemble, fittingly playing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and other works. Interspersing music with engaging archival film footage of Laurie Lee’s inspirations, memories, life and poetry.
THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED + LIVE SCORE BY HUGO MAX
Lotte Reiniger’s beautiful silent animation from 1926 is accompanied by a live score from musician and filmmaker Hugo Max. Hugo performs on solo viola, regularly soundtracking screenings across the UK. Prince Achmed brings to life the tales of the Arabian nights and is the oldest surviving feature-length animation, created in a delicate style that has inspired generations. This will be a breathtakingly beautiful event for all ages.

About Curzon Cinema and Arts
The Curzon is an independent, Grade-II listed cinema and concert hall that was built in 1912, making us one of the oldest cinemas in the country. The cinema was saved by the community in 1996 and we have been operating as a registered charity ever since. In addition to showing the latest blockbusters, we offer a diverse programme of live events exploring all art-forms whilst living our motto of being: “Independent, Unique, and Yours”.
Accessibility
The auditorium is accessible for wheelchair users, or anyone requiring step-free access and we offer a range of options for seats with space for your wheelchair or extra legroom. These are shown as the blue seat options on our seat guide when you book online. Just ask a member of staff at the Box Office and we’ll be happy to open the access doors for you.
We regularly have subtitled screenings for people with impaired hearing, usually on a Wednesday afternoon, and relaxed screenings for those on the autism/sensory spectrum, people living with dementia and anyone who would benefit from a relaxed cinema experience. Food and Drink
Arrive early to enjoy a relaxing drink in our newly refurbished Oak Room Bar. We serve all the usual sweet and savoury cinema treats (kids treat trays being the most popular) plus hot/cold drinks and ice cream. Alcoholic drinks are also available from the Box Office, which can be taken into the auditorium or up to the balcony.

We recommend that you book tickets in advance online to guarantee a seat! Each online booking includes a £1 per order fee which helps pay for our ticketing costs and 100% of this is kept by the charity. Tickets are also available before most screenings in person subject to availability.
