Winter/Spring 2025/26

Hello! We don’t know about you, but 2025 is hurtling by for all of us here at Curve! As we say a fond farewell to summer, there’s a full harvest of great theatre ahead as the nights draw in.
It’s already been a busy start to the autumn. Our Made at Curve production of A CHORUS LINE recently opened in Japan, where it received the same joyous response from Japanese audiences as it did here in Leicester. The underwear-loving pirates from PIRATES LOVE UNDERPANTS continue to tour across the UK and KINKY BOOTS is preparing for a European outing before strutting into the London Coliseum this spring.
We have plenty of homegrown shows exploding onto our stages in the upcoming months. We start with Edward Albee’s masterpiece WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? in our Studio Theatre.
Our brilliant Associate Director Cara Nolan directs this Tony Award-winning play, with an incredible quartet of leading actors: Cathy Tyson, Patrick Robinson, Tilly Steele and George Kemp. You will know these fantastic actors from their numerous theatre, TV and film appearances, and we are honoured they are coming to Curve to breathe new life into this magnificent contemporary classic. Playing exclusively in Leicester, this run offers a rare opportunity to experience one of the great plays of the last century.
In celebration of Black History Month, we’re excited to be staging a rehearsed reading of Ossie Davis’ PURLIE VICTORIOUS. This richly comedic play tells the story of Reverend Purlie Victorious Judson, an inspiring preacher who challenges racism head-on, with wit and hotspurs. We saw this boundary-busting play last year on Broadway and knew we had to share it with our audiences at home.
This Christmas at Curve, home is the extraordinarily beautiful Salzburg with Rodgers and Hammerstein’s iconic musical THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Featuring an exceptional cast, including Molly Lynch and David Seadon-Young who thrilled audiences in our production of MY FAIR LADY last year, this production celebrates the 60th anniversary of the film’s release and is one of our favourite ways to end the year. Molly and David lead a cracking company, which also includes Joanna Riding, Aviva Tulley and Faye Brookes, alongside one of the largest youth and community teams we’ve ever assembled for a Christmas show at Curve. For little space explorers, following the success of last year’s PIRATES LOVE UNDERPANTS, this year we’re exploring outer space with the especially festive ALIENS LOVE PANTA CLAUS. Based on the brilliant book by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort, our Creative Programmes Practitioner Chandni Mistry has adapted it for the stage. Directed by the brilliantly imaginative Julia Thomas (GIRAFFES CAN’T DANCE, GEORGE’S MARVELLOUS MEDICINE), this magical family adventure features catchy songs from Jude Taylor and will be full of intergalactic joy for all aged three and up. Looking ahead to next year, we’re delighted to welcome back Amber Davies, who previously starred as Vivian in the UK tour of PRETTY WOMAN. Amber plays Elle Woods in our brand new Made at Curve production of LEGALLY BLONDE. Bend, and snap up your tickets for this sassy, sophisticated and stylish show! We’re also very proud to see the return of Johannes Radebe to Leicester, as he zips up the big red boots once again in KINKY BOOTS, before the show heads down to the London Coliseum. We know Leicester will be cheering Amber and JoJo on as they take to the STRICTLY dancefloor this autumn.
We all know the chorus, but together we can discover the stories behind Don McLean’s groundbreaking song with the docu-concert INSIDE AMERICAN PIE. Featuring an iconic setlist including songs from Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Janis Joplin, an incredible band of musicians unlock the mysteries behind this classic song in an exhilarating evening of entertainment.
The Tony Award-winning KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN plays in our Studio Theatre next year in its first major UK revival since 1992. Directed by the visionary Paul Foster (A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, KISS ME KATE), this exciting new production stars Anna-Jane Casey (CABARET, BILLY ELLIOT) as Aurora, who plays the Spider Woman in prisoner Molina’s imagination. Playing the role of Molina, we’re thrilled to be welcoming back Layton Williams to our stage who has performed here in EVERYBODY’S TALKING ABOUT JAMIE, RENT and HAIRSPRAY in previous years, as well as George Blagden (WHITE CHRISTMAS, TV’s VIKINGS) as Valentin. Like WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, this is a rare opportunity to see one of the great pieces of theatre from the 20th century, and we’re proud they’re both happening here at Curve.
Alongside our Made at Curve productions, we have an eclectic selection of touring shows and events which we hope will inspire and enlighten, including a brilliant homage to Morecambe and Wise, ERN, and the mythical story of a hero in THE LIGHTNING THIEF: THE PERCY JACKSON MUSICAL the little ones, BLUEY’S BIG PLAY comes to our stage in this adaptation of the award-winning TV series.
Our continued thanks to our principal funder Arts Council England and our incredible sponsors and supporters (if you’d like to learn more about our bespoke sponsorship packages and all the ways you can support Curve, please drop us a line at give@curvetheatre.co.uk). If it wasn’t for this crucial investment in Curve, as well as the unwavering support from you, we simply wouldn’t be here today.
Thank you,
Chris Stafford, Chief Executive
Nikolai Foster, Artistic Director

It’s 2am. Locked in a destructive cycle of love and self-loathing, history professor George and his wife Martha return home drunk from a party. As they draw naive young couple Nick and Honey into their bitter and warped world, what starts as a casual nightcap soon turns into a dangerous cocktail of truths and games.
Widely regarded as Edward Albee’s most important work, WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? is a witty, hugely entertaining, provocative and lacerating study of a marriage in crisis.
Playing exclusively at Curve this autumn, this must-see Made at Curve drama is directed by Curve’s Associate Director Cara Nolan (ROAD, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE).

So bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
You know the chorus, but do you know the stories behind Don McLean’s ground-breaking song? Written to commemorate the 1959 plane crash that took the lives of American musical icons Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper, the song about ‘the day the music died’ is crammed with riddles and references to world-changing events in 20th century history.
What led to that tragic night in 1959? How do The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, and Charles Manson all fit in? Why were the Rolling Stones blamed for a murder? And who was the real Miss American Pie?
Direct from Harmony House in Hunter River, Prince Edward Island, Mike Ross and an incredible band of Island musicians unlock the mysteries behind this classic song in a concert experience that’s been thrilling audiences for five years and counting. Combining an iconic setlist – including Janis Joplin’s Piece Of My Heart, Bob Dylan’s The Times They Are A-Changin’
The Beatles’ Helter Skelter and of course, Don McLean’s American Pie – with remarkable stories, will take you on a musical journey from the ‘50s all the way through the ‘60s.
You’ll never hear American Pie the same way again.

From the legendary creators of CABARET and CHICAGO, KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN returns in an electrifying new co-production from Curve, Bristol Old Vic and Mayflower Southampton. In a brutal prison, Molina – condemned for his sexuality, and Valentin – a political prisoner, are forced into an unlikely friendship in the cell they share. To escape their harsh reality, Molina conjures dazzling fantasies of glamorous movies, spinning tales of the seductive and dangerous Spider Woman. As their conditions worsen and the line between truth and fiction blurs, the two men find a deeper connection – one that could cost them everything.
Adapted for the stage by Terrence McNally from Manuel Puig’s unforgettable novel, the original Broadway production of KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Now, in its first major UK revival since 1992, this daring new production is directed by Paul Foster (A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, KISS ME, KATE) and stars the phenomenal Anna-Jane Casey (CABARET, BILLY ELLIOT) as Aurora, Olivier award-winning Layton Williams (TITANIQUE, EVERYBODY’S TALKING ABOUT JAMIE) as Molina and George Blagden (WHITE CHRISTMAS, TV’s VIKINGS) as Valentin.

Visionary choreographer and MacArthur Fellow
Shamel Pitts returns to LDIF with MARKS OF RED, a powerful Afrofuturistic performance that reimagines memory, embodiment and regeneration through movement, sound and light.
Told through the perspectives of six women, MARKS OF RED is a work of magical realism and the fourth chapter in Pitts’ RED Series. The piece meditates on the “womb space” as a site of memory, rupture and potential, exploring how histories shape our senses, bodies and imaginative possibilities.
Praised by The New York Times “as always visually striking”, Pitts’ work challenges perceptions of identity and space whilst affirming dance as a site of transformation and connection.
A meditation on complexity, resilience and human intimacy, MARKS OF RED is not just a performance –it is an invitation to witness the future of dance.
Running time: 1 hour
Show warnings: Contains stroboscopic lighting and electronic music.

At Captioned performances, the actors’ spoken words are shown as visible text via two display screens on stage, one on each side, similar to subtitles. The text scrolls at the same speed as the dialogue, making it easy to follow with the action on stage.
Our BSL Interpreted performances are presented with British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation. The interpreter will be positioned on either the left or right of the stage throughout the performance, and their position will be confirmed online once available.
During these performances, audio describers provide a live, verbal commentary on key visual aspects of the show for audience members who identify as Blind or sight impaired. The description is presented via a personal headset (available from the Box Office) and includes an audio introduction to the show before the performance starts.
Dementia Friendly performances are tailored to meet the needs of people living with dementia. They include adaptations to the show, clearer visual markers and signage in the physical environment, and a relaxed attitude to movement and audience responses during the show.
Relaxed Performances are open to anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed performance environment. Audience members can interact with the performance in their own way and, while the theatre doors will close, guests can leave and re-enter the theatre at any time. We also make adaptations to the show, and reserve a quiet space for anyone needing some time out of the performance.
An accompaniment to Audio Described performances, Touch Tours are a tactile tour of the stage, set and costumes, giving audience members who are blind or sight impaired greater access to the performance. Tours usually take place 90 minutes (or earlier) prior to the start of an Audio Described performance.
