TEACHER''S EDUCATION RESOURCE TEACHER Welcome to the ALIENS LOVE PANTA CLAUS education pack! This pack is for anyone who has read the book, or seen the show, or just wants something really fun to do with little ones! We aim to extend your children’s theatrical experience when they get back to school, nursery, or at home as a fun family activity. You can adapt the activities to suit the age and ability of your children. The activities are designed to get your imaginations working and your bodies moving. There are no wrong answers, the main thing is to have fun whilst you do them. CRAFT The Aliens have a huge spaceship and mini spaceships that hover over rooftops. Now let’s build our own spaceship that you can fly around yourself! What you need: • Two paper plates • Glue or tape • A toilet roll • A plastic cup • Some pens and any bits and bobs you like to decorate with!

STEP ONE

Glue together two paper plates, so they make the base of your flying saucer. You can decorate this however you like – will you add your favourite pants?

STEP TWO Cut your toilet roll in half and leave a few tabs so you can stick it down later. Now you can draw your favourite alien onto your toilet roll! Who will you draw? Is it one that’s been in your imagination? Or is it one from the show?

STEP THREE Stick your toilet roll to the spaceship. Now your spaceship is ready to fly!!!

MUSIC DJ Rudy needs some help to make a cool beat to play at the Reindeer Rave!

GROUP TASK

Standing in a circle. Can you tap out a beat using different parts of your body? Try: clapping, clicking, slapping, scratching and tapping. Staying in a circle one person makes a sound and everyone else copies. Everyone can have a go at this. Can you try it all together again, but really loud! And then how quietly can you do it? Can you do it really quickly? Can you do it in slow motion? Pick out 5 people to make their sound. Then another 5. Stop and start different people, making a full orchestra of raving sounds!

DIGITAL TASK

Using a recording device (phone or tablet) could you record your orchestra and play it back? As a group when you listen, can you think of any ways you might like to improve your track?

WRITING Lumi the Snowman teaches us ‘When you give, give, give at Christmas you get a happy feeling inside.’

GROUP TASK

What sort of things could you give to someone? It doesn’t have to be big or need any money? Can you make somebody smile with a special gift that’s funny? A cuddle? A beautiful leaf or stone? You will help to clean your bedroom? Tell them a funny joke? This is your chance to write a letter and draw a picture for someone you love that describes what you would like to give to them! 1. Choose who do you want to give something to? It could be someone in your family, a friend, a teacher or even a pet! 2. What would you like to give to them? Choose something you would like to give. 3. Write a letter and describe what you would like to give them. 4. In your letter draw a picture of how you hope that person will feel when they get your gift.

MOVEMENT You’ve met the Aliens in the show, now it’s your turn to become an Alien!

GROUP TASK

1. Imagine your favourite Alien. What colour are they? How many eyes do they have? 2. Lets start with our feet and legs, how would your Alien walk? Are they slow? Are they fast? Do they jump? Hop? Wiggle their legs whilst they walk? Walk on their knees? 3. Now lets add in our hands. Do they have a special move? A flap? A wave? Are their hands high or low? Do their fingers wriggle or are they really still? 4. Now lets think about our face! Does your Alien smile? Have a silly face? Seem annoyed? Can you get your eyebrows wiggling? 5. Lets add some sound. How might your Alien speak? Can you start off quiet and get louder and louder and FREEZE. 6. Alien dance party time! Play two songs, one slow classical and one faster with a beat and see how your Alien moves. 6. Can you finally end in your coolest Aliens pose!

WHOLE GROUP TASK

Show us with your face and your body how it makes you feel when: • Tomorrow is Christmas Day! • Your best pants have been stolen by Aliens • Oh no, Santa’s sleigh has broken down!! • You find a beautiful pair of pants in your Christmas stocking

IN SMALL GROUPS OF FOUR

Let’s make some frozen pictures from the moments we see and imagine from the story. Can you all play a different characters? • The Aliens arrive in Lapland (Some can be watching, some can be Aliens) • Children write letters to Santa (Different types of children asking for your best present) • Santa is getting ready to deliver all the presents (What does Santa needs to do? Comb his hair, have a cup of tea? Put on his shoes? • Hover over chimneys ready to shoot down! (Let’s see some amazing mission impossible moves) • Decorate a Christmas tree with pants! (How high can you reach? Are some decorating the lower branches? Is someone being the tree?) • Build a snowman (Who’s doing the arms, nose, eyes, buttons?)
