CONGRATS TO THE 2020 HCLA CLASS!

Together we are building a better and stronger community for all of Hamilton County.

WELCOME FROM THE HAMILTON COUNTY LEADERSHIP ACADEMY For nearly 30 years, the Hamilton County Leadership Academy has invested in our county’s current and future leaders. It has helped them gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the issues, challenges and opportunities facing the county. It has encouraged them to connect with their peers and the hundreds of speakers who have participated in HCLA. Most importantly, it has supported their desire to invest in our county, connecting the dots so they can make a difference in their community. HCLA’s alumni are key executives in a wide range of companies, nonprofit leaders, government employees, elected officials and business owners. Most importantly, they are all servant leaders. Over the years, the organization has thrived because of strong relationships with key community partners. HCLA’s success has only been possible because Hamilton County has seen its value, recognized its importance and invested and supported it since 1991. This year, two key community partners have stepped in to raise HCLA’s profile even further: The Hamilton County Community Foundation is partnering with HCLA to help it expand the academy’s county-wide focus, continue to attract the best and brightest to the program and invest real dollars in the community in the areas of mental health, family and youth empowerment and inclusive economic growth. Current Publishing is helping to tell the story of HCLA through the publication of this special section and as the official media partner of HCLA. Now, we celebrate the 29th HCLA class. Members of the Class of 2020 have begun their journey through HCLA’s signature 10-month program. They are experiencing a unique, exclusive backstage pass into all 402 square miles of Hamilton County. This year’s cohort represents for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, education, government and civic institutions. They come from every corner of the county with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Some participants have lived in Hamilton County their entire lives, while others are newcomers. Regardless of their backgrounds, they all share a common mission: to lead, to serve and to work together to ensure Hamilton County thrives for decades to come. On behalf of HCLA, Hamilton County Community Foundation and Current Publishing, we are honored to be able to recognize and celebrate their selection into this highly-competitive program and to champion their bright futures within the county.

A POWERFUL NEW PARTNERSHIP Hamilton County Community Foundation knows that meaningful change is only possible when individuals, corporations, not-for-profits and civic leaders work together to solve problems. For 29 years, Hamilton County Leadership Academy has brought these like-minded and visionary thinkers together to do just that—improve our county. It’s a perfect partnership. In 2018, Hamilton County Community Foundation looked at local and national data, in addition to many conversations with representatives throughout the county to identify the most pressing needs of residents. Three community leadership initiatives were formed as a result and helped focus the foundation’s efforts in its new 5-year strategic plan: mental health, family and youth empowerment, and inclusive economic growth. These three focuses have informed Hamilton County Community Foundation’s strategic plan, grant-making and community relationships. The foundation believes these to be the most important and pressing issues facing Hamilton County, and change will not happen without community collaboration and partnership. That’s why the foundation has partnered with HCLA. The 2020 class will have an opportunity to work with Hamilton County Community Foundation to more deeply understand the challenges and opportunities related to mental health, family and youth empowerment and inclusive economic growth in Hamilton County, and how philanthropy can play a role in improving quality of life for residents in these areas. Hamilton County Community Foundation believes in this group’s passion for their communities and dedication to finding innovative solutions. The foundation will provide a $3,000 grant for each focus area that will be allocated by the 2020 HCLA class to a not-for-profit. This is an opportunity to leverage philanthropic dollars, civic leadership and passion to make Hamilton County a better place for everyone to live, work and play. Together we can do more.
