2017年由新活動「校友職業博覽」揭開序幕，隨 「中大醫院」及「博群計劃」共籌得港幣380萬善 之而來是由年初到年終的一連串充實又欣慰的歷
款，成績斐然。校友會聯會也有新的長遠發展大
程。我們一方面專注把握各種渠道及機遇建立大
計，除了邀請新近成立的新書院校友會加入之
學與校友的聯繫，同時亦不斷努力接觸不同界別
外，亦致力研究於市區成立校友會所，以及踴躍
的校友，銳意締造更多聯繫平台及專業網絡。細

數一下，耳熟能詳的項目就包括每月均有的「電 子通訊」、「主題校友晚宴」、大學「榜上友名」的 校友專訪系列，以及每季從無間斷出版的《中大 校友》雜誌和「茶話家常」午間活動。另方面， 因應社會新發展趨勢及校友需要，提供具前瞻性 及持續性的大型活動，亦變得比過往更重要。當 中首推校友傳承基金舉辦的「校友職業博覽 2017」。雖然是第一次推出，但口碑載道，廣獲 年青校友支持。此基金自2014年成立以來，已成 功累積籌募超過500萬元，又連續三年將「中大創 業日」辦得聲勢浩大。另一邊廂，「中大校友日」 參與人數每年不斷再創高峰，2017年錄得逾五千 位校友及家人參加。此盛事亦首辦「迫巴士大挑 戰」，成為另一個娛樂及籌款兼備的新聚焦活動。 活動之外，我們亦加強發展及鞏固120多個大大小 小的本地和境外校友會。全賴他們的忠誠支持， 讓我們更具信心推動上述活動。樂見「本地校友 組織領袖年會」取得廣泛校友領袖的積極參與， 這無疑也標誌著校友組織間的互動起了成效。就 此，校友評議會及校友會聯會展示了校友力量之 無限可能，創造了多個自豪的里程碑。校友評議 會透過其2017籌款計劃，再次成功打破紀錄，為 03
面對校友社群不斷增長及擴展，我們經常反躬自 問應如何繼往開來，開拓新領域。在此，我們始 終貫徹及堅守核心理念，即有效地橫向「擴闊與 校友接觸面」，更同時積極垂直「深化與校友關 係」，以達凝聚各方校友。就如一棵樹，要長得高 長得壯，它的根就要深要廣；同樣，校友事務要 發展要進步，也必須要在「擴闊」和「深化」兩 方面下功夫。具體來說就是不斷加強校友網絡， 善用他們的才幹與經驗，讓大學、同學及校友們有 所裨益。按着這個路線圖，全年的過程中，多個活 動不僅達成了預期的目標，亦喜獲不少校友的正面 回應。校友的熱情和認同，使我們有更多力量前 進。最後，希望大家喜歡這本內容詳實的年度回 顧，與我們一同分享過去一年的工作及機遇。
In 2017, we kicked off the year with the roll out of a brand-new initiative, CUHK Alumni Career Expo. As always, not only did we endeavor wholeheartedly to work for building strong links between the University and our alumni, we also ventured to expand the boundaries of engaging them. In review, we were thrilled to find that several projects were either deeply rooted in the minds of alumni or were favorably received by them, such as “Dinner with Pro-Vice-Chancellor”, “Roll Call Alum”, “CU Alumni” Magazine and “Yum Cha” Luncheon Series. To address the diverging trends, we worked very hard not to take a ‘one size fits all’ approach to programming. The Alumni Career Expo 2017 funded by the CUHK Alumni Torch Fund serves as a good example. Despite being a new event, it attracted an impressive participation and acclaim from the young alumni. This Fund has achieved an accumulated donation amount of HK$5 million since 2014 which contributed greatly to the success of CUHK Entrepreneur Day for three consecutive years. In addition, the CU Alumni Homecoming had exceeded 5,000 attendance in 2017. To add more fun in this carnival event, “School Bus Challenge”, was being launched. Apart from events, we were devoted to developing a strong alumni association network with over 120 associations at home and abroad. Our Annual Local Alumni Association Gathering was also graced with the active participation of the local alumni leaders. The two major alumni groups, the
Convocation and the Federation of the Alumni Associations (FAA), also crafted some milestones. For instance, through the Fundraising Campaign 2017, the Convocation successfully raised a record high of HK$3.8 million dollars for the projects of CUHK Medical Centre and I-CARE Programme. The FAA committed relentlessly to several visions, such as inviting the new colleges to join as its basic members, initiating the set up of an Alumni Club in Central as well as participating in different fundraising activities. As engaging alumni from all walks of life is our mission, we are unwavering in our core values, which are broadening our reach and deepening our relationship with alumni. Like a tree, its roots ought to reach as deeply and as broadly as it could in order to make it grow prosperous. To this end, we have been strategically broadening and deepening the alumni engagement to encourage our alumni to contribute their talents and expertise for the betterment of the University, students and alumni. With heartfelt gratitude, a number of our events in the year were not only accomplished with intended goals but also blessed with the positive responses from our alumni. Lastly, we hope you all will enjoy reading this Year-in-Review!

Following CUHK’s theme of “Making Things Happen”, the profiles spotlight innovators and make good things happen not just for themselves but for society. In short, these profiled alumni come from different fields with seminal contributions in various sectors.

校友事務處於2017年共舉辦或協辦逾30項活動。 年內矚目的校友盛事，包括有中大校友傳承基金首次舉辦的「校友職業博覽」、載譽歸來的 「中大創業日」、以及校友事務處每年舉辦的大型重聚活動「中大校友日」。當中亦有配合 不同屆別、不同年齡層校友需要的聚焦活動，促進校友對母校的歸屬感。 The Alumni Affairs Office organized or assisted in organizing more than 30 alumni events in 2017. The highlighted events in the year included the “CUHK Alumni Career Expo”, the “CUHK Entrepreneur Day” and the “CUHK Alumni Homecoming”. The largest alumni event to welcome alumni around the world Features • Grand carnival • Thematic talks • Double-decker bus tour • Handicraft market • College / Graduate School reunion dinners New elements • “School Bus Challenge”: a new initiative to challenge as many alumni as possible to get on a classic school bus to raise funds for the “CUHK Alumni Torch Fund” • “Lunch with Overseas AA Presidents / Representatives”: a lunch specially hosted by Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dennis Ng, to receive those presidents / representatives from different overseas AAs who came all the way to attend this event Achievements • Record-high participation: over 5,000 alumni and their guests • Fundraising effort: A donation of HK$150,000 was raised in the “School Bus Challenge” for CUHK Alumni Torch Fund. Together with the effort of Alumni Homecoming Special Anniversary Classes Fundraising Committee, a big cheque of HK$1,080,000 was presented at the event in support of the above Fund which has a accumulated donation amount of over HK$5,000,000 since 2014

中大校友組織網絡遍佈全球，截至2017年 底，中大全球校友組織共有129個，其中85 個以香港為基地，另有44個海外校友組織分 佈28個國際城市。 As of the end of 2017, there was a strong network of 129 CUHK alumni associations around the world, with the distribution of 85 local alumni associations in Hong Kong and 44 offshore alumni associations based in 29 world cities.

校友事務處積極支援兩個主要本地組織 ─ 校友評議會及校友會聯會。除派員參與會議及支援其行政工 作，亦協助舉辦不同類型活動。年內，兩會會務皆有長足發展，有效凝聚校友，並大力推動母校發 展。 校友事務處亦與其他海內外的校友組織保持緊密聯繫，鼓勵他們支持大學不同的活動及項目。 AAO played an active role in supporting two major alumni bodies: the CUHK Convocation and the Federation of Alumni Associations (FAA). Serving as the administrative facilitator, AAO attended their meetings and assisted them in organizing various activities. In this year, they both made good progress in engaging different alumni and propelling the development of the University. AAO also maintained a close and active connection with different alumni groups, locally and globally, to drive them for supporting various projects and initiatives of the University. 17

Fundraising campaign •A greeting video, the first-of-its-kind, was produced to introduce the “2017 Convocation Fundraising Campaign” to its alumni members. The Standing Committee members also gave their staunch support by donating HK$100 for every “like” clicked for the video •A record high donation of HK$3,800,000 was raised for the “CUHK Medical Centre” and “I-CARE Programme”. Together with the effort made in 2016, the accumulated donation has almost reached HK$6,600,000, with over HK$5,900,000 being allocated to the “CUHK Medical Centre” “One Belt One Road” Seminar •5 experts speaking from various perspectives on the opportunities and challenges brought to Hong Kong by the “One Belt One Road” initiative •Over 400 participants attended Visit to CUHK (Shenzhen) •A day trip to CUHK (Shenzhen) was arranged by the Development Subcommittee and Alumni Relations Subcommittee •Over 30 alumni met and exchanged views with the teachers and students there

•活動成功籌得港幣30萬1千元贈予「博群計劃」，另亦 呼籲熱心校友及基金合共捐出港幣50萬元支持沈教授 的癌症治療研究 新書院校友會加入聯會 •基本會員增加，包括來自和聲書院、善衡書院、晨興 書院和伍宜孫書院的校友會 •敬文書院校友代表亦列席聯會會議，加強聯繫
•200 alumni were mobilized to attend this fundraising event by FAA’s effort •HK$200,000 was raised for the University through the alumni participation Thank You Dinner for Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Sung •Over 130 alumni attended this dinner at the Hong Kong Jockey Club to express their gratitude and say farewell to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Sung who was going to step down in the year end •A donation cheque of HK$301,000 in support of the I-CARE programme was presented by FAA and an additional donation of HK$500,000 was also lined up through FAA’s effort for the fund in supporting Prof. Sung’s research project on cancers New college alumni associations as basic members •Alumni associations from four new Colleges i.e. Lee Woo Sing College, S.H. Ho College, Morningside College and Wu Yee Sun College had joined FAA as basic members •CW Chu College’s alumni representatives were in-attendance of FAA meetings to strengthen the connection

校友組織會長聚會 •獲來自46個本地校友會的57位會長及代表出席，聯繫 情誼以及交流會務 •邀得大學副校長許敬文教授蒞臨簡介大學最新發展 •會前增設「新任校友會組織會長午宴」，讓年內所有 新任會長(超過20位)與其他資深校友會會長作經驗交 流 積極參與大型校友事務活動 •年內各校友會協助推動大學校友活動，包括超過40個 校友會參與「中大校友日」及設立20多個各式各樣的 攤位 •創業校友會更成為「中大創業日」的協辦單位，貢獻 良多 動員海外校友組織/網絡 •逾33個海外校友組織接待520多名往當地的交換生， 豐富學生的學習經驗 •各地校友組織除不時接待往當地公幹/探訪的大學管理 層，亦積極參與大學的學長計劃、實習計劃及招生工 作，例如大學研究院於馬來西亞參加教育展覽，當地 校友網絡亦有在展覽上義務參與宣傳工作
Annual Gathering for Local Alumni Associations •57 presidents from 46 local AAs attended this event which was the most effective platform in the year for the leaders to gather at the campus for networking as well as to learn the latest development of the University from Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Michael Hui •Over 20 AAs had elected new presidents in the year. A welcoming lunch was also organized for them to meet with the experienced AA leaders prior to the gathering Active participation in University alumni events •University alumni events were blessed with the support and participation of the AAs. For example, over 40 AAs took part in the Homecoming Day with 20 various booths supported by the different AAs. CUHK Alumni Entrepreneurs Association also rendered their great support to the CUHK Entrepreneur Day as co-organizer Support from overseas Alumni Associations (AAs) •33 AAs outside Hong Kong offered to receive nearly 520 outbound exchange students •AAs around the world also took part in various University’s mentorship, internship programmes and student recruitment. For example, the Malaysia alumni helped promote CUHK programmes in the Education Exhibition. They also rendered warm hospitality to CUHK delegates during the visits to their cities 20

AAO maintained 200,000 graduates records in its database, including their current addresses, graduation years, degrees, occupations, etc. 91% of graduates could be reached via their up-to-date addresses/emails. Through maintaining an effective database, alumni from different geographical locations, professions and fields could be kept in touch which facilitated us to solicit their support for various University-wide programmes and AA activities.

校友事務處與校內單位緊密合作，以達至大學長遠策略性的目標，其中包括： AAO maintains close collaborations with internal units to engage alumni for achieving the strategic goals and development of the University: •於各平台如《中大校友》季刊、校友電子月報、 電郵等向校友發佈有關大學發展、書院活動、各 學院的進修學習等資訊 •廣邀校友支持為學生而設的體驗計劃如暑假實習 計劃、學長計劃及博群計劃等
•Promoting events / campus news through CU Alumni magazine, Alumni Matters, mass emails, etc.
•協助各書院、學院、學系成立校友會
•Appealing to alumni for their support on student enrichment opportunities, such as internships, mentorships and I-CARE Programme
•定期安排來自跨年代之不同書院、專業及行業的校 友與大學主管人員會面和聚餐交流
•Giving advices on the establishment of AAs of various colleges / faculties / departments
•與拓展及籌募處配合，呼籲校友支持不同的籌款 項目，以支持大學發展
•Arranging meeting and networking gathering between University Officers and alumni from different sectors and professions
•按入學及學生資助處需要，就大學收錄國際生事 宜，安排與來自不同地區的校友會面，以及邀請 海外校友支援大學在當地進行收生工作
•Encouraging alumni to support the fundraising projects of the Office of Institutional Advancement Office for the advancement of the University •Arranging networking opportunities for Office of Admissions and Financial Aids (OAFA) to meet and exchange views with alumni from different areas on the matters of international students admission as well as inviting the overseas alumni to give local support whenever the recruitment work be conducted in their areas.

當今時代瞬息萬變，唯有不斷創新及把握機遇，才能締造無限可能。展望未來，我們的團隊 將繼續努力不懈地與不同的伙伴，特別是處於香港以至世界各地近130個的校友組織，在互 信及真誠的基礎上，攜手透過創意與應變，共同建立具活躍及可持續發展的校友社群，傳承 回饋的中大精神。這亦同時呼應我們的核心理念，即要時刻「擴闊接觸面」及「深化關 係」，進一步發揮校友力量，達至促進大學的長遠發展。我們期望在2018年開展以下嶄新的 計劃： In this rapidly-changing era, we need to innovate and grasp the golden opportunities to create endless possibilities. Looking ahead, our team will strive to collaborate with our nearly 130 alumni associations from all over the world to prosper the ever-growing alumni community and pass on the CUHK spirit of gratitude and giving-back. It is our core mission to broaden the reach and deepen our relationship with alumni, engaging them in the strategic development of the University. •「環球校友諮詢委員會」：協助大學校長邀請來自全球 各地、從事不同行業和畢業於不同年代的12名傑出校 友，以加入全新成立的「環球校友諮詢委員會」。作 為中大的智囊及大使，他們將致力為大學的願景和目 標提供策略性建議，以增強其國際聲譽和影響力。
•「傑出校友訪問計劃」：讓在不同業界卓有成就的本地 或海外傑出校友藉著此計劃回到母校，透過多種形式 的活動，包括公開演講、圓桌討論會、聯誼活動、學 生職業指導等，與學生、校友以及教職員分享他們的 行內真知灼見。
Global Alumni Advisory Board: AAO will assist the Vice Chancellor in inviting 12 distinguished alumni from different world cities and career fields to form the Global Alumni Advisory Board. It aims to function as a strategic ally to advance the University’s mission.
Distinguished Alumni-in-Residence Programme: The programme will welcome at least 1-2 distinguished alumni each year to stay at the campus. Programmes will include public lecture, round-table discussion, networking reception and student career meeting etc for staff, students and alumni of the University.

•《摰愛》舞台劇環球巡演：由校友會聯會主辦，台前 幕後由中大人傾情參與演出，以彰顯中大為一所具有 文化特色的國際高等學府，顯示中大人的凝聚力及歸 屬感。 ‘My Love’ Drama: Organized by FAA, this drama will be on tour to different cities, highlighting CUHK as a global tertiary institution with its own cultural characteristics and demonstrating the sense of belongings and cohesion among members of CUHK. •與企業行政總裁(CEO)校友對話系列：每月邀請一位 任職行政總裁的校友開放他的辦公室，邀請年青校友 到訪與其討論交流，以助他們對行業發展和職業規劃 的了解。 Roundtable Discussion with CEO Series: In each month, a CEO alumnus / alumna will be invited to lead discussion with the young alumni in his / her own office. The Series aims to equip the young alumni with a better understanding of different fields and hence facilitate their career planning.

•中大校友會會議中心：全新設施座落予大學校園本部 的富爾敦樓地下，設計時尚簡約，提供舒適寧靜的環 境予校友會進行會議及相關工作。 Alumni Associations Centre: Located at G/F John Fulton Centre, this modern-designed new facility will serve as an effective venue for the AAs to have meetings etc. •中大校友會所：校友會聯會正積極籌備，透過可行的 翻新及設計在市區成立期待已久的中大校友會所，提 供聚餐和會議活動場地，有助凝聚校友以建立更強大 的校友網絡。 The CUHK Alumni Club: The FAA has set up a preparatory committee to convert a club currently located in Central to CUHK Alumni Club, hoping to provide decent dining and meeting venue as well as enhance the unity among alumni.
資料庫 Database •豐富校友資料庫：積極搜集校友職業資訊，拓展及深 化與校友和校友組織關係，為校友事務發展奠定良好 及必要的基礎。 Enrichment and enhancement: Active and intensive effort will be made in collecting and updating the alumni contact information as well as their occupational details. All these would form the essential base for deepening and broadening the relationship with our alumni and alumni associations.
