Staﬀ Highlight - Education Program Principal Professional Kelsey Keil, M.Ed

Kelsey Keil, M.Ed., has been an integral part of the Division of Hospital Medicine for nearly four years. During that time, she has helped expand the reach of our fellowship programs while elevating professional development opportunities for faculty and staff. Most recently, Kelsey launched a staff development series centered on CliftonStrengths (formerly StrengthsFinder), helping team members better understand their individual strengths and how to collaborate more effectively with one another. Through engaging workshops and practical discussions, she has fostered a culture of self-awareness, teamwork, and continuous growth across the division. Kelsey's passion for education and staff development has strengthened our learning environment and continues to make a lasting impact on our team. We are grateful for her dedication and look forward to seeing all she will accomplish in the years ahead.

CUDHM faculty traveled to Nashville for SHM Converge 2026, the Society of Hospital Medicineʼs annual conference. CUDHM contributions reflected the breadth of work happening across the division, with topics ranging from diagnostic safety, patient-provider communication, addiction medicine, clinical education, hospital operations, clinician well-being, health equity, POCUS, care transitions, and innovative approaches to hospitalist work design. From national recognition to research, education, innovation, and mentorship, SHM Converge oﬀered an opportunity to showcase the many ways CUDHM faculty and staﬀ are helping advance hospital medicine.

CUDHM DAILY Making an Impact at National Conferences Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM)

This spring, faculty from the Division of Hospital Medicine (CUDHM) joined colleagues from the CU Anschutz Division of General Internal Medicine at the SGIM Annual Meeting. With more than 45 attendees across the two divisions, CU Anschutz had a strong presence throughout the meeting—sharing expertise, connecting with colleagues from across the country, and contributing to conversations shaping the future of academic internal medicine. Presentations & Workshops Our faculty contributed across a wide range of topics, including womenʼs health, addiction medicine, artificial intelligence in medicine, obesity medicine and food insecurity, medical education and POCUS, patient advocacy and health equity, and digital media in academic medicine. The meeting oﬀered an opportunity to showcase the breadth of work happening across CU Anschutz while learning from and building connections with colleagues nationwide.

HOSPITALIST HIGHLIGHT HISP Scholars Explore Opportunities to Scale Street Medicine This July, we welcomed six medical students from across the country to our Health Innovation Scholars Program (HISP). Through HISP, students work alongside faculty and health system leaders to tackle real-world healthcare challenges and develop solutions that can meaningfully improve patient care. This yearʼs scholars were Henry Elsner, Arrey Enow, Jeffery Liu, Samantha Mallahan, Zackry Schultz and Ryan Sutherland. The four-week program kicked off with brainstorming sessions and team-building activities that laid the foundation for several weeks of research, collaboration and problem-solving. This year, the scholars focused their health innovation project on scaling street medicine in the Denver metro area, bringing medical care directly to people where they are. The students explored opportunities to build on the work of existing organizations, including STRIDE Street Medicine, with the ultimate goal of improving access to follow-up care for people experiencing homelessness. At the conclusion of the program, the scholars presented their findings and project goals to the Division of Hospital Medicine. Faculty had the opportunity to ask questions, offer feedback and identify ways to strengthen the project as it moves toward implementation. We are grateful for the creativity, collaboration and hard work these students brought to HISP throughout July. Their work is a great example of what health innovation can look like in action: identifying a challenge, bringing people together and developing practical solutions to improve the lives of our patients.

Applications are open for our September 2026 POCUS Course Expand your ultrasound skills by joining our Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Regional Course September 17-18, 2026. The course curriculum focuses on the most relevant POCUS applications for generalist providers caring for hospitalized patients. Participants will learn best practices of ultrasound-guided techniques for bedside procedures such as thoracentesis, central venous access, lumbar puncture, and paracentesis. Youʼll gain practical skills in image acquisition, interpretation, and clinical integration.
