MENTORSHIP LAUNCHTEAMS PROGRAM

LAUNCH TEAMS OVERVIEW

WhyLaunchTeams?

TheLaunchTeaminitiativeisdesignedto supportearlycareerDepartmentofPediatrics faculty“launchees”andfacilitateconnections withindividualswhohavekeycontent, methodsorcareerinsightstohelplaunchees succeed.Launchteamsworkonlywhenteam memberscommittodoingpre-workandintermeetingworktoensureprogress.This documentprovidesanoverviewofthis structureandexpectations.

TeamComposition

ThecoremembersofLaunchTeamsinclude individualsinthefollowingareasrelatedto facultydevelopment:clinical,education, scholarship/research,leadershipandservice. Thesectionleadershipandlauncheewillwork togethertoidentifymembersoftheirLaunch Team.FacultyoneachLaunchTeammust committoparticipationforatleastoneyear.If changestotheteamareneededpriortothe endofyear,thelauncheeandLaunchTeam Facilitatorwillworkwithsectionleadershipto coordinatesuchadjustments.

Cadence&Content

LaunchTeamswillstartwithafirstmeetingto setgoalsandprioritiesfortheupcomingyear. Meetingstakeplacequarterlythroughoutthe yearforatotaloffourmeetingsforeach LaunchTeam.LaunchTeamsfocusonkey aspectsoffacultygrowthanddevelopmentin areasincludingclinical,education, scholarship/research,leadershipandservice.

Thegoals,metricsanddeliverablesforeach meetingandacademicyearwillbedeveloped bytheearlycareerfacultymember,witha focusonLaunchTeam.Suggestedareasfor meetingsanddeliverablescouldinclude,but arenotlimitedto:

Clinical:Casemix,clinicalvolume,resources, waystobecomemoreefficientornew techniques.

Education:Developmentofteachingskills, curriculumdevelopment,opportunitiesfor formalteachingroleswithinthesection, departmentandSchoolofMedicine.

Scholarship/Research:Researchportfolio andfocus,manuscriptplanning,grantwriting andfunding,wayfindingandconnectionsto resourcesandfunding.

Leadership:Managementandorganizational skills,careergoals,professionalstrength development,tailoredopportunitiesfor coaching.

Service:Committeemembership, opportunitiestoengagewithsectional activities,engagementwithprogramswithin thedepartmentandbeyond.

Promotion:Planningfortiming,needsfor dossier/portfolio,etc.

TheLaunchTeamshouldfocusitsinitialmeeting onorientingmemberstotheteamandproviding anoverviewofthementee’sbackground, experiencesandinterests(pleaseseeFirst MeetingAgendaTemplate).Year-endmeeting contentshouldreflectontheyear’sactivitiesand achievementsanddefinenextstepsforthe menteeandtheteamasthementeefurther buildstheirteam.

Meetingcontentshouldalsobederivedfrom menteeengagementwiththeLaunchTeam Program’ssessionswhicharedescribedin detailinthesectionsthatfollow.

Sessions

TheLaunchTeamProgramincludesfour meetingagendasthatalignwithkey developmentaldomainsforearlycareer faculty.Meetingsmusttakeplacequarterlyto ensureregularcadenceandtimelyfeedbackon progressorbarriers.LaunchTeamsaredivided intotwodifferenttracksforfaculty:atrackfor facultyfocusedonclinicalpracticeand/or medicaleducation,andatrackforfacultywho arefocusedonscholarshipand/orresearch

Bothtrackswillstartwiththesamesessionfor thefirstLaunchTeammeeting.Further meetingswillvaryinstructure,focusand contentbytrack.Launcheesareencouragedto usecontentandmeetingagendasthatwillbest supporttheirgrowthanddevelopment,which mayincludecontentfromdifferenttracks.

LaunchTeamFacilitatorsshouldfacilitate(or co-facilitate)eachTeammeeting.Facilitators andLauncheesshouldbeincontactpriorto eachmeetingtoreviewmentees’planned agendaandmakesuggestionsasneededto ensurethatthetimespenttogetherisvaluable forall.Preparationforthesemeetingsis thereforecriticaltotheprogram'ssuccess.

Teamsshouldalsoarrangeforaback-up Facilitator,typicallytheLaunchTeammember fromDivisionLeadershipwhocanhelp facilitatemeetingsintheeventoftheprimary Facilitator’sabsence.Tostreamlinethis process,werecommendcc’ingback-up Facilitatorsonemailsinvolvingfinalized meetingagendas.Asapartofoureffortsto optimizeLaunchTeams,weaskthatmentees andtheirTeammemberscompleteabrief surveyuponfinishingeachsession.Surveys canbeaccessedusingthelinkorQRcode foundattheendofeachsession.
