November 2025

KEEPIN IT RANDOM

If you’re reading this it is on an electronic device or printed from one. November through February is an online version of the best local car magazine ever and you are part of it! The weather is changing and here in Ohio that means the essential end of the cruisin’ season. It is a fact we live with in Ohio and surrounding areas, some dread it and either get depressed or move to Florida for the winter and avoid it altogether. Others embrace the change and make the best of it. Moving is a novel idea, change of scenery and pace, a great way to enjoy the year and not feel like you’re missing out. When I get older, I might embrace that idea but not Florida. The thing about moving is you can’t work on your hotrod. Right now, it is building season for me, turn up the heat in the garage and focus on cool stuff, not repairing my back stairs or installing a fence or whatever the yard or outside of the house has to be done. I do still have interior repairs but they are more tolerable in the winter. Now is the time to get into the shop and focus on tuning new carburetors or building the ridiculous 60’s show car I have in my head. In the winter, organizing the shop seems like fun, in the summer it is work. The magazine is easier to write in the rain and cold and for all of you, it can be easier to see it on the computer inside. The digital issue could actually be seen by more people than the print issue because it is uploaded in November as the current issue, unlike during the summer we do not upload the current issue because we want to sell them. 10,000 plus people on our email list and Facebook have a notice the issue is posted and anyone else can access it for free (for now). ANNOUNCEMENT, we have multiple years of back issues now posted on the website and we will be making them and the “online only” editions available for print on demand. Print on demand is not cheap and postage is outrageous so the issues are a little expensive but it is a service we offer at no profit to us. It is a harsh reality that the economy does not favor the “non-rich” but we are trying to make the magazine work “DOGE” style, cutting the fat and offering a quality product at a reasonable price. We might break even this year thanks to all our supporters, but please don’t think that we can do that forever. Please let businesses, car clubs, etc. know they can advertise with us, for ads, shows and classifieds. Classifieds are great for winter, get rid of your junk treasures and/or buy new junk treasures. Our emails and website updates will continue through the winter so please let us know your thoughts and questions. Turn on the heater and work on car stuff or surf the internet looking for car stuff, either way it’s better than sudoku.

Thanks from the chief junk treasure guy.

See you at the shows!

Napier’s ‘54 Chevrolet Belair Custom “Whiskey Soured”

I love chopped cars and Rex Napier’s ‘54 Chevy is no exception. I met Rex at the Blue Suede Cruise this year and the car really caught my attention. The first thing that catches your eye with any car is the color and the yellow pearl paint on this car glitters in the sun, unfortunately on the cloudy day I shot the photos did not do this car justice. Next to catch your eye is the chop, 3.5” front and 4” in the back using the back roof and side windows from a ‘49-50 Chevy for the smaller windows. Not a simple modification and it shows, the added time to make it the way Rex wanted resulted in a unique roof line that most might not notice but sets the car apart.

Rex is a car builder, Rex’s Rods and Customs, and the background of the photos is his place, showing how he is fully immersed in the car culture. It is right there behind the car, old barn, gas signs and pumps, street lights and the coolest silo bar/lounge I have seen.

Rex picked up this car 8 years ago, a bone stock 74k mile Belair, and finished it this year, less than an hour before he left for the Indianapolis Custom Car Revival.

The chop is all the car needed but the body mods are extensive. Rex grafted in 1955 Chevy front wheel openings, frenched the antennas and the headlights (with stock trim rings), peaked and louvered the hood, shaved the door handles, and nosed and decked the front and rear.

He widened ‘52-54 Ford sedan rear bumpers by 2.5” and put them on the front and back, added extra teeth to the grille, implanted ‘54 Merc taillights and then painted it “Whiskey Soured” yellow.

The 283 engine with a 200-4R moves it down the road while he’s floating on a 2 link rear suspension with air ride. Chrome reverse wheels, the perfect width white walls and bullet center caps are perfect for this style. Did I mention Rex does all his own work and that includes the interior. The white vinyl with vintage cloth inserts (including the headliner) makes this interior very special, along with the custom console with handmade sparkly pearl plastic insert.

Rex will continue to upgrade the car and I hope you get to see it in person on a clear day, the paint and interior are fantastic in the sun.

Knights of Columbus

When I arrived at the St Charles Borromeo Church parking lot for the Knights of Columbus annual show it had just rained hard and it was steamy humid. Despite the weather there was already a lot of cars there along with DJ Frank Lamana and the Babcia’s Kitchen Polish food truck. This is a small but well run show by the Knights of Columbus with many volunteers there to help for a good cause. Proceeds go to Edna House, a woman’s addiction treatment center and Cyrenians which feeds the homeless. We will remind you all about this show for next year so we can make it even bigger.

Please contact Robert Porvasnik at 440 822 5599 if you would like to donate to their charities.

See you at the shows!

AMERICAN STREET RODS

“Tanker” the official shop greeter!

(Pres.)

HAVE A PROJECT? We are currently scheduling projects for the winter. Next year has to be better than the last. People will want to be going out to many cruise in’s and shows with there cars.

WE WORK on customer cars, unlike others who take a large deposit and let your car sit. You’ve all heard the horror stories of guys cars taking years to get fairly simple jobs finished at these shops.

WANT YOUR ROD PAINTED? Again, the horror stories of shops taking a year or longer once they got your BIG deposit. We have you bring your rod to us when we’re ready to start on it, and give it our full attention!

Remember Cruisin Car Club Charity Car Shows

As soon as you pull up to the downtown Sandusky location for the Cruisin Car Club’s weekly charity show, you can tell it’s the perfect spot for a car show. It runs every Friday from June 13 to August 1, with rain dates scheduled for the remaining Fridays in August.

If you haven’t heard, it has been hot and humid all summer in northern Ohio, and the Friday I went was no exception. I was told the heat kept a few people away, but you wouldn’t know it by the turnout. Cars were packed around Washington Park and lined up along Columbus Street, with a great view out toward the lake.

The setting is hard to beat. You are surrounded by good food, local shops, and a cool breeze if you pick the right spot. And best of all, the proceeds from the show go to local charities.

So if you are looking for something to do this Friday night, head to Sandusky. Parking is close, the cars are cool, the food is solid, and the lake is right there. That sounds like a perfect night to me.

See you at the shows.

WESTLAKE 36TH ANNUAL CHARITY SHOW

The City of Westlake Car Show held on July 4th is a great place to go on the holiday because you can park your car in the show and then walk a short distance and see one of the best parades around right on Hilliard Blvd. You can even put your car in the parade and then park at the show at the end.

There were over 200 cars at the show which starts at 10am and goes until 3pm. Cars are separated by decade and it works out very nicely that the oldest ones get the best shade. Clauge Park in Westlake is a great venue for this event because it is a large grassy park and is conveniently located near I-90 and at the intersection of Clauge and Hilliard. There was a DJ playing a good mix of music, food vendors, a dog competition, and a karate demonstration. Later in the evening the fireworks are held at the same place but you have to move your car for that. Proceeds go to St Jude Children’s Research hospital and the Westlake Community Center. Next 4th of July, support these organizations by attending this event.

See you at the shows.

IMPORTANT >>> REMINDER

Just a reminder that Cruisin’ Times Magazine prints and mails magazines March through October. We will have November through February as an online only version with the same great content. The bible of local cruises doesn’t get printed over the winter months because we don’t have enough events to make it worth the printing and postage cost. We know how you love to have it in your hand when you go cruisin’ but most people have their car in storage anyway. Please understand postage and printing is expensive and we do not have the resources to waste.

Also, we will be making changes to our social media and how we answer the phone, so if you have had difficulty reaching us in the past, we will be much more available now. As always, email is the easiest way to reach us, crusintimes@gmail.com.

The digital issue will be available with your email on file. If you do not have an email on file, please contact us and we will add one or provide access in another way. The issue will be available by the first of each month.

This will be constantly updated through the season but these are the events we will be attending in Nov. through Feb.

The 31st Annual Camaro Fall Classic, hosted by the NorthEastern Ohio Camaro Club at Summit Racing Equipment in Tallmadge, Ohio, brought together Camaro enthusiasts from across the region for a day full of classic cars, camaraderie, and celebration. We welcomed 240 Camaros of all generations that lined the show field, showcasing nearly one of every generation. Attendees enjoyed a diverse array of food vendors, a basket auction, 50/50 raffle, and music, all set to the event’s fun 1970s-inspired “Staying Alive in 2025” theme. The event also supported a great cause, raising $24,000 for Aluminum Cans for Burned Children (ACBC). Special thanks to all of our sponsors, volunteers and members for hosting an amazing event. If you missed the event, follow us on Facebook to learn more about NEOCC and the annual Camaro Fall Classic. Save the Date for next year (Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026).
