Randomly Speaking Fast & Slow...
T
here are fast people and there are slow people in the world. And, it seems, the same things keep happening to the same people all their lives, because they do things
either too fast or too slow. A fast person is getting finished eating while everyone else at a restaurant is just getting started. The slow eater often puts down his knife and his fork as if he was done and talks for a while. I have a friend who eats so slow, we tell him get to the restaurant and order at least a half hour before we get there. Getting off an airplane separates the fast people from the slow ones. Fast people unfasten their seat belts as soon as the plane touches down, then before the plane gets to the gate, they stand up. Then the pilot tells them to sit down. Slow people on an airplane don’t unfasten their seat belts until the plane comes to a full stop, just like the pilot says. Then they stand to get their things together. If you’re a fast person trapped in a window seat, slow people drive you nuts. Eventually everyone makes it out to the greeting area within minutes of each other. You can tell the fast people, because they’re shaking their heads from side to side. They also shake their heads from side to side when they get to the baggage area and their bags haven’t come out yet. Slow people generally arrive at the
bag take longer. Fast people have ribbons or a label of some kind on their bags. At the movies, the fast person is out on the street before the credits are over. I could never figure out why they put the credits at the end of a movie when everyone has left. Why not put them at the beginning while I’m getting popcorn. Fast people get driven crazy more than slow people, because they’re always getting trapped behind them. Slow people can’t understand why they’re in such a darn hurry. Fast people dress in an hurry and get out of the house. They’re usually waiting in the car in the driveway for the slow people to come out. Slow people are upstairs making sure that all the windows are closed and the coffee pot is off. Fast people tend to buy more coffee pots because they leave them on and burn the pot, which has to be replaced more often. The coffee pot manufacturers know that, which is why replacement coffee pots are just as expensive as the entire coffee making machine. Fast people who are collector car owners tend to get to the car shows sooner than the slow people so they can get the best spot. Slow people get there whenever they get there and can’t understand why it’s important to get a specific parking space, aren’t they all the same? If there’s a guy power parking at a national event, you can bet he’s a fast person.

Randomly Speaking Fast people tend to drive at at least 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. Slow people tend to drive under or exactly the speed limit. If there’s a long line of cars going down the interstate, you can bet the guy leading the pack is the slow driver, or a cop is nearby. You can also bet the cars weaving in and out trying to get around the leader are fast people or a drunk. Fast people tend to switch all the channels looking for a better program. Slow people tell fast people to stop switching channels and settle on something. Slow people switch channels fast & frequently but only when they’re alone.

Fast people watch the traffic light like a hawk and take off the instant it turns green. Slow people check their phones and wait until some one behind them blows the horn. You rarely hear about drag racers blowing the horn at other drag racers, so there must be no slow people in drag racing! ...course that’s just me randomly speaking.

E
very so often a community shuts down a part of their town just to provide a great location for a car cruise. Ravenna, OH does this for their Annual Octane Nights Cruise in August. The cruise is a part of their Celebrate Portage (County) event. Main Street is shut down from Mongoose Motorsports, LLC. and Pizza Hut on the East end and then down the hill to A&W Restaurant on the West end. Vehicles were parked on both sides of the street. Numerous businesses along Main Street allocated a portion of their parking lots for the cruisers as well. Although the hours are billed as 5 to 9, the cruisers actually begin arriving in the early afternoon to pick out their preferred parking spots. About 3:45PM there was a brief shower that failed to dampen anyone’s enthusiasm. The large area allowed car clubs and groups to park together. By 6PM the street was packed

with cruisers and spectators checking out the rides. Organizers estimated the car count at 1600 and the spectator count at 8000! At 7PM the Ravenna Rumble took place as many cars were fired up for a brief display of horsepower. ... Vrooom - Vroooom! ... You know that feeling! Muscle cars, rods, customs, Corvettes, trucks and classics and even tractors, a large display of Semi Trucks and a funny car made up a great mix of vehicles. This event was voted Crusin’ Times #1 Downtown Event of 500+ cars and they are certainly going to be in the running for that distinction for future polling. ummit Racing Equipment in Tallmadge, OH was the site of the Studebaker-Packard cruise in August last year. Independent marques and a group of King Midget aficionados were also in attendance.

This was a smaller show but was it well worth attending as unique rides were parked in all corners of the grounds. With more than 12,500 members and four chapters in Ohio, the Studebaker Drivers Club is one of the largest car clubs in the world. The Ohio Region Studebaker Chapter, Studebaker Driver’s Club was out in full force. The Northeast Ohio chapter has 160 members who carry the torch for Studebaker’s innovative, underdog spirit. Studebaker pioneered things like self-adjusting brakes, the ‘hill-holder’ manual transmission, and low silhouette styling.”

Although the last Studebaker automobile rolled off the assembly line in Hamilton, Ontario, 1966, the Studebaker stalwarts are making sure Larks, Hawks, Presidents, Land Cruisers, and Champions find their rightful place in the pantheon of American originals. Sedans, coupes, pickups and tilt bed trucks and even an ambulance drove in for this cruise. A large group from Canada made the trek to Summit for the show.
