I am writing this on a cold, rainy day in April and there were supposed to be 5 car shows going on near me which I think they all didn’t go so well. I wanted to go to new shows to write articles about new places, cars and people. Now I just hope to find something to write about before the deadline. I have been to the same places many times, swap meets I have set up at for years, car shows I go to on special occasions and races I like to get to. This is vacation season and when it comes to vacation, I try hard to never go to the same place twice unless there is something more to see or it changes. Flea markets are cool because they are always different but just places with history, food and culture I need to see new. I travel for the magazine but I also travel a lot for my day job and I get excited when I go somewhere in Ohio that I have not heard of or on a road I have not been on. They are getting harder and harder to find, I even take longer to get home to get on a road I have not been on. Vacation is also hard because we have to go a long way to see something new. One way tickets are way more common now as are one way car rentals so we try to avoid the “there and back” and make it a big loop trip or go one direction, that way you see more. There are a lot of people that go to the same places because humans like comfortable, I think I am the opposite, we picked our next trip because it is not comfortable. I am not talking riding a camel or dogsleds but just not what we are used to. I also travel with no reservations except for the first night and the last night. That freaks people out but for me it keeps the trip flowing with what we want. I know someone that plans every restaurant meal at the mouse house down to the minute, I would rather not go at all than do that. This year I will be going to new shows and seeing new people and most importantly to you, having new cars in the magazine. I can’t remember what I had for lunch so if a car has been in before don’t get mad but I am trying. Readers Rides can be submitted on our website or by email so that is a start to getting your car in the magazine. Also, if you get a business card in the car, call me, I have left it because I want to do a photo shoot. I have only gotten feedback in person and so far it is all good, send me a note and let me know what you think about the magazine, new shows to go to or whatever else. Cruisin' Times Magazine Kurt Finton - 1937 Studebaker Pickup I met Kurt about a year ago at my first outdoor car show as owner of Crusin’ Times Magazine. His truck just jumped out as next level fantastic as soon as I saw it walking around the Phlat out on the Farm show at Maize Winery near Canton, OH. Kurt and his friend Calvin brought their trucks a good ways from Coshocton to hang out in the cold on May 30th. We’ll see Calvin’s truck in the future but lets start with the 1937 Studebaker pickup. The Studebaker pickup is an art deco masterpiece from the factory but everything can be improved, right? This is an all steel body channeled over the frame with a 4 inch stretch through the doors and cab. Flush mounted windows with rear made to oval shape with vent windows deleted and one piece glass in the doors. Hidden door hinges and flush mount door handle smooth the sides with deleted cowl vent and side spare tire along with smooth bumpers. The running boards were reshaped going back to custom tailgate latches, rear valence and wheel tubs. The factory bed floor opens to show the AMES Fabrication custom round tube chassis and Heidts independent rear end with inboard Wilwood disk brakes which matches the Heidts independent front end. This allows for the 18x8 and 20x10 Schott Wheels. All this glory scoots down the road courtesy of a 707hp supercharged 6.2L Dodge Hellcat Hemi and an 8 speed automatic transmission. Electricity flows through a Hotwire Auto Wiring harness hidden under an aluminum engine cover and custom air intake. Trent’s Trick Upholstery incorporated the air conditioning vents into the custom blue interior which includes a 3-D printed steering wheel and Dakota Digital Gauges. Kurt has been winning awards with the ‘Stude everywhere, his last trip was to all the way Oklahoma so it is not just a local favorite, everyone can see it is a rare jem. 8 Cruisin’ Times ~ June 2026

2026 LOUISVILLE SWAP MEET Photos & Words by Vic Garlauskas
2026 Louisville Swap Meet KYANA Region A.A.C.A. On March 21 and 22nd, 2026 I attended the largest indoor automobile swap meet in the U.S. at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, KY! Over 300,000 square feet of rusty gold under one continuous roof and every show has been sold out since 1984. This was the 59th year for this show and boy was it something to see! For this show there were 5 buildings connected so you never had to go outside and they were all full of vintage and current hotrod parts. New, and used auto parts and vintage memorabilia including neon signs to cast club logo plates. Lots of tools, engines, vintage speed parts and cool old bicycles. If it was cool and at all gearhead or car culture related, it was there. The Kentucky Exposition center itself is humungous, currently with 1.2 million square feet total, they are constantly upgrading and with the Kentucky Kingdom theme park right on the same grounds it is a really big facility. The area where the show has been will be raised or remodeled and they are currently constructing one building that will take the place of these 5 buildings so the whole show will be under mostly one roof. Thankfully the Broadbent Arena where I was set up will remain for the next show in 2027 so I can stay in my same spot. Every other location will have to register for a new space and I do not envy the people that will have to deal with that. This show is a definite bucket list for swap meets and any car person would just be amazed, worth the trip for sure. The 60th show will be Saturday, April 17 & Sunday, April 18, 2027, this is usually in March but had to be moved due to construction at the Exposition Center so plan accordingly.
