You may have known Heather Ann Bausch from her visits to Crossroads at Northglenn while working as a home health nurse for the past decade. Northglenn was one of the many assisted living facilities she visited day to day in her previous employ. She says, “seeing the superior care Crossroads at Northglenn provided stood out to me as well as the fact—the directors, staff and residents were like family.” And so, she decided to join the Crossroads family. Heather came to Colorado from California about 10 years ago. Her personal passion is her family, her husband Brian, and kids Taylor, Kaya, Kingston and Roxi-Dale. They enjoy sports, camping, cooking and all the things they can do together as a family. “I love being a nurse,” Heather says. She comes from a long line of nurses, her grandmother, mother, and older sister. Heather’s focus has always been in serving the geriatric population. What motivates Heather is watching her residents age gracefully while being well cared for at their Crossroads home. She says this is the only assisted living facility in town where she would choose to be the Resident Services Director. We welcome you Heather and thank you for the sincere and watchful nursing skill you bring to Northglenn.

Featuring
Robert and Ruby Tamayo “He gave me the “high eyebrow.” That’s how Ruby Tamayo knew that Robert Tamayo was a person of interest. She was in church. It was there, Robert sat down beside her, gave her a look, and they’ve been sitting next to each other for the 21 years that have followed. Robert’s attraction to Ruby was simple. “She is a lovely lady and she has spirit.” Another word Robert uses to describe Ruby is “bubbly.” Ruby was happy to meet a Christian man who, during the year prior to their marriage, she saw how kindly he related to her and to his daughters. She liked what she saw. What Robert didn’t know about Ruby was that she loved to go camping. Robert said for him “where the pavement stopped that’s where I stopped.” But love conquers all things and the two of them learned that camping up in the mountains, lakeside, would be their ongoing passion. Ruby, an addictions counselor and Robert a maintenance professional, couldn’t wait for
the weekend to come when they could hitch up their 22 foot trailer and head to places like Estes Park. And even now, Ruby and Robert are always ready for an outing. Whether Walmart, a museum, or the casino, they are ready to go. For the veterans at Northglenn, Robert is a Vietnam vet. His job – minesweeper. He is thankful for God’s watch-care during those perilous times. Robert and Ruby like Crossroads at Northglenn because they feel safe. They don’t worry about getting their medications and they certainly don’t worry about eating. Robert says that when they first arrived, it took only 2 months to gain 20 pounds. He’s had to learn how to regulate his ice cream intake. But when all is said and done, between the courtesy of the caregivers, the meals Cat produces, and the fabulous array of activities Gloria provides, Crossroads at Northglenn has become home.

Executive Director Bulletin As we enter Fall, we are preparing for our vaccination clinics. Crossroads will be hosting three clinics in October. Here are the highlights: October 6, 2021, Walgreens will be on-site to administer the influenza vaccine. This will be the only clinic held for influenza. Innovage participants will need to contact Innovage directly as Walgreens cannot provide services to Innovage participants. October 11, 2021, Bloom healthcare will be on-site for Covid-19 boosters. Bloom will also be able to provide the Johnson and Johnson vaccine for any person that has not had either dose one or dose two. Bloom will have both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine to assure each resident’s booster vaccine is the same as vaccine one and two. Colorado department of public health and environment will be providing an additional clinic for anyone who misses the Bloom clinic and for all Innovage participants. This date is still pending but we will send that date as soon as it is secured. I would also like to include a few responses to questions I have already received as I’m sure most have the same question. Will staff be fully vaccinated? Yes unless the employee’s Physician provides documentation stating its counter indicated. Should my family member receive the booster vaccine? Current recommendation by the CDC is that “at-risk individuals” receive the booster six to eight months after receiving dose number three. Please contact the resident’s

Update from Maranatha Keeping On in Kenya Maranatha Volunteers International’s in-country crew in Kenya has continued to build new houses of worship, school buildings, and drill water wells across the country. At the Kajiado Adventist School and Rescue Center, new high school laboratories are nearly complete, and our crew recently finished plumbing that brings clean drinking water across the campus. Maranatha previously drilled a well here, and now fresh water comes directly out of the taps in bathrooms, showers, and staff housing buildings throughout the property. The young women were astonished that they could turn a tap and have clean running water for a shower. Our well drilling team will be drilling at least six more wells in the near future. Maranatha has been working in Kenya since 2016, building houses of worship, schools, and water wells. More than 650 structures have been completed so far. of the baguette slices. Place on a lined baking tray. Sprinkle with extra parmesan. Set aside.
1. Preheat oven to 425° and line a large baking tray with baking paper. Drizzle the cut sides of the pumpkin with 1 tbs oil, then place, cut-side down, on prepared tray on top of thyme sprigs.
5. Remove vegetable mix from the oven and replace with the crouton tray. Roast for 8 minutes until golden and bubbling.
3. Remove the vegetable mixture from the oven and add the onion to the tray. Enclose the garlic in foil and add to the baking tray. Roast for a further 30 minutes or until tender.
6. To make the soup, strip the thyme leaves from stalk and add to a large saucepan. Scoop out the pumpkin seeds and discard. Scoop out the pumpkin flesh and place in the saucepan with the carrots and bacon, if using. Peel the onion and garlic, and add to the pan. Add any remaining pan juices. Use a stick blender to break down slightly, then add the stock and 1½ cups water. Blend until smooth. Stir in the creme fraiche. Season to taste and cook over medium heat until warmed through.
4. Meanwhile, for the croutons, combine the parmesan, butter, fennel seeds, chili flakes, coriander seeds and thyme in a bowl. Season. Stir to combine. Spread the butter mixture over 1 side
7. Transfer to serving bowls. Top with extra creme fraiche and micro herbs. Season with pepper and sprinkle with extra chili flakes. Serve with spiced parmesan croutons.
2. Place the carrots and bacon in the middle of a large piece of foil. Sprinkle over the fennel seeds and chili flakes. Drizzle with the remaining 1 tbs oil. Add to the baking tray and roast for 30 minutes.

The Easiest Pumpkin Soup You Will Ever Make! INGREDIENTS
Pastimes Kakuro
Just like in Sudoku, fill in the grid with the digits from 1 to 9.
FOR THE SOUP 1 (about 3.5lbs) butternut pumpkin, halved 2 tbs extra virgin olive oil 8 thyme sprigs 2 large carrots 4 slices cured and smoked streaky bacon (optional) ½ tsp fennel seeds ½ tsp chili flakes, plus extra to serve 1 onion (unpeeled) 3 garlic cloves (unpeeled) 2 cups chicken or vegetable stock 2 tbs creme fraiche (plus extra to serve) Micro herbs (optional), to serve
Each group of digits must add up to the number that is just to the left or above it. No group can repeat the same digit twice. Although they are aligned vertically or horizontally, a group does not necessarily span the whole column or row. This means that although you may not repeat a digit within a group, you may repeat it within a column or row. There is no requirement to use all the digits.
FOR THE SPICED PARMESAN CROUTONS 2 /3 cup finely grated parmesan, plus extra grated to serve 6 tbsp unsalted butter, softened ½ tsp fennel seeds, crushed ½ tsp chili flakes, plus extra to serve ½ tsp coriander seeds, crushed 3 thyme sprigs, leaves picked ½ sourdough baguette, sliced on an angle
