An older man, living alone, decided he wanted to add a pet companion to his life. After thinking long and hard about the decision, he buys a parrot and brings it home. However, the parrot almost immediately starts insulting the older man and gets really rude. In a moment of frustration, the man picks up the parrot and tosses it into the freezer to teach it a lesson. But when the bird stops squawking, the man panics and opens the freezer. The parrot walks out, looks up at the man, and says, “I apologize for offending you, and I humbly ask your forgiveness.” The man replies, “Well, thank you. I forgive you, and I’m sorry too.” The parrot then says, “If you don’t mind my asking… what’d the chicken do?”

Meet the Newest Residents: Butterflies! Beauty abounds in our west courtyard, home to the Butterfly Garden donated by the Healthy Habitats Gardening Program associated with Denver’s Butterfly Pavilion. The goals are simple. Create more places for butterflies, humming-
birds, and good insects to thrive. The native plants we are growing do just that. Additionally, they engage our residents. Residents care for the plants and learn about the insects and plant life. Butterfly kits have been provided now to expand our resident’s participation in the garden and their overall enjoyment of the winged creatures fluttering about.

Update from Maranatha
Drilling water wells has become one of the pillars of Maranatha’s work around the world. From Africa to South America, they’ve drilled wells in some of the most difficult places on earth. But in 2022, our team in India has been pushed to new limits in providing water in the mountainous state of Manipur. Here, villages dot the mountaintops at more than 5,000 feet, and each day residents must make a steep, dangerous hike, only to bring back water that could be contaminated. Drilling in this environment is not easy—a traditional large drilling rig will not make it up the rough, punishing roads. Instead, smaller machines are used, or, for the first time, water pipelines are being dug that bring fresh mountain spring water directly into villages. It is physically and logistically taxing work that has pushed our team to the limit. Watch how Maranatha is bringing water to these mountain villages in the latest episode of our television program, “Maranatha Mission Stories.” Maranatha’s projects are funded through local community and international donor support.
