I would firstly like to thank team CRJ for their commitment and continued resilience throughout the pandemic. As we begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel, it feels a good time to reflect on the efforts undertaken by our team. Not only has our team continued to deliver a first-class service to our customers, but we must also take heed of the progress we have made as a company during this challenging period. As a company, CRJ is experiencing a sustained period of growth which has seen our service offering and staff count grow significantly over the last 12 months. Our hire fleet has grown and is now home to over 100 pieces of equipment, including the addition of 6 water baths. This has coincided with the announcement of CRJ as the new dealer for Bruce Engineering within the midlands and north of England. Enabling CRJ to offer Bruce’s range of modular washing equipment, as well as full turnkey wash plants to the quarrying and waste management industries. We continue to expand the range of spare and wear parts offered by our parts division. This has led to the introduction of a dedicated parts website, www.crjservicesparts.com, allowing users to browse our range of parts and speak directly to our parts team who can assist customers with their purchase. A recent purchase of their 2nd HAAS TYRON by Binn Group Ltd has seen CRJ, together with the HAAS brand hit a significant milestone of 100 HAAS TYRON shredders sold into the UK and Ireland, and the 10th TYRON sold into Scotland. The is a milestone we are very proud of, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the HAAS brand as we introduce a Hybrid version of the TYRON to the UK and Irish market. Looking to the future, CRJ is excited to continue meeting the demands of the ever-evolving waste management, recycling, and quarrying industries. The industry’s leading waste shredder goes Hybrid The HAAS TYRON has long been recognised as the leading slow-speed shredder in the waste management and recycling sectors. As these industries look to move away from diesel powered equipment, the team at HAAS have successfully converted the ever-popular TYRON to a Hybrid machine. Whilst our customers and the wider industry understand the need to make their operations more efficient and environmentally friendly, the transition to electric and alternative fuels has been put under time-pressure by the removal of the UK red diesel subsidy in April 2022. The new Hybrid TYRON bridges this gap by combining a small 43kW diesel engine with a 280kW electric motor. The diesel engine is utilised exclusively for operating the tracks, to manoeuvre the machine around site. The electric motor provides the power to the rest of the machine, including the shredding shafts themselves.

This innovative new development combines the flexibility of a mobile machine with the energy efficiency of static equipment. It dramatically reduces the reliance on diesel and produces no exhaust emissions during its operation. The Hybrid machine also offers quick set-up times, with a simple 3-phase connection to the mains, a multifunctional control panel and remote control. The key focus of the new Hybrid design, was to ensure the shredding performance and reliability achieved historically by the diesel-powered TYRON was not compromised. Aside from the introduction of the electric motor, the Hybrid TYRON includes all the features and benefits of the standard TYRON 2.0. The recently upgraded shredding chamber provides a more aggressive infeed and optimal clearance between the shafts and the

collection belt, increasing the TYRONs throughput capabilities. The Hybrid TYRON also incorporates the upgraded servicing and maintenance features of the TYRON 2.0, including ground level access to the shredding chamber, enabling safer and more efficient servicing and maintenance of the shredding shafts. Ben McQuaid, Director at CRJ Services, had this to say: “The introduction of the Hybrid HAAS TYRON provides our customers with the flexibility of a mobile shredder, whilst benefiting from the efficiency and power of a static electric machine. Needless to say, this is something that has become increasingly important with the scrapping of the red diesel subsidy for the UK waste and recycling industries.”

Binn Group celebrates 20th year milestone as it takes delivery of the 100th HAAS TYRON sold into the UK and Ireland Scotland’s leading independent provider of integrated recycling and resource management services, Binn Group Ltd, has taken delivery of the 100th HAAS TYRON sold into the UK and Ireland and the 10th TYRON sold into Scotland. This milestone for CRJ Services and the HAAS brand coincides with Binn Group celebrating its 20th year since incorporation. Binn Group was established in 2001 by father and son John and Allan MacGregor as part of a land diversification project on their Binn Farm estate. Rapid growth has seen Binn Group expand beyond their original landfill provision, to become Scotland’s largest and most diverse independent waste management operation.

The array of services offered by Binn Group focuses on recycling, reuse, waste minimisation, landfill diversion and improving the environment. Binn operates a materials recycling facility where a wide variety of recyclable materials are separated, graded, baled, and sent to re-processors. As a result, over 86% of all the materials entering the facility are transformed into usable commodities. The remaining 14% is then processed into SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel), which generates electricity and power (avoiding use of fossil fuels) from the materials that would have otherwise gone to landfill. “It has been great working with CRJ. As a contractor and operator, themselves they understand the challenges we face with equipment downtime. In the rare occasion we have an issue, CRJ’s team remotely diagnose the issue and arrive promptly onsite with the experience to get us back up and running with minimal downtime.” said Stewart Smith, Operations Director at Binn Group. Binn Group has been a loyal customer to both CRJ as a machinery solutions provider, and utilised HAAS as a brand of shredder for a number of years. Their first HAAS TYRON, purchased back in 2018, replaced their preexisting single shaft shredder which

was struggling to consistently produce the quality of shredded material required for their SRF product. Due to the exceptional performance experienced over the last 3 years, it was a simple decision to upgrade to the brand New Tyron as part of their equipment renewal plans.

Binn Group has been dealing with CRJ for many years and have always been extremely happy with the service levels we receive. The reliability and performance of our first Haas Tyron convinced us to stick with the Haas brand once it came time to upgrade, coupled with the backup service CRJ provides.

With a final setting that can be customised by the operator to suit their specific waste type. “Binn Group has been dealing with CRJ for many years and have always been extremely happy with the service levels we receive. CRJ Services team up with Dove Bank Primary School to launch Treetopia CRJ Services has collaborated with the environmental specialists at Dove Bank Primary School to launch a campaign to plant a grove of trees in the Scottish Highlands. Global deforestation is key issue we face as a global community. Whilst there has been lots of media coverage on the issue of late, and progressive work being done across the world to combat deforestation, much more is needed to ensure the health of our planet. Planting trees has a multitude of benefits, both short and long term. Trees can remove and store carbon from the atmosphere, slow heavy rain to reduce flood risk, enhance air quality and improve the ‘urban heat island effect’ by reflecting sunlight and providing shade. It is for these reasons CRJ Services and Dove Bank Primary School have created TREETOPIA! Treetopia is a grove of trees, located in the Caledonian Forest, named by the Year 5 team at Dove Bank Primary School.

Our initiative is part of a wider project to re-wild the Scottish Highlands, run by treesforlife.org.uk, who have already planted nearly 2,000,000 trees, since 1993.

and along side making our own processes and equipment greener and more sustainable, we strive to make tangible contributions to our local and global community.

So far, we have run two initiatives to boost the number of trees in Treetopia. The first initiative saw us plant a tree for each like on our Treetopia launch posts on our social media accounts. The second saw us plant 5 trees for every medal won by Team GB and Team Ireland at the Tokyo Olympics. In total this has resulted in their being 512 trees planted in Treetopia, which is a great start, and something we are very proud of.

Our aim is to keep planting trees in Treetopia through various initiatives and fundraising, over the coming years. To keep up to date with our progress, keep an eye out from Treetopia updates on our socials.

Sand is a finite resource and is globally the most consumed natural resource after air and water. The rising demand for natural sand comes at a cost, with 50 billion tons of sand being used annually across the globe. LetsRecycle Live Round-Up CRJ Services exhibited at the LetsRecycle Live show on the 15th and 16th of September. Showcasing the HAAS TYRON 2500, and the Steelweld Strobe 1500, alongside a selection of our spare and wear parts. It was great to get back to an industry show and meet face to face with our existing and prospective customers, after the disruption of the pandemic. It was particularly exciting to show CSH Environmental Ltd their brand new Steelweld Strobe 1500 which we had on our stand, following their recent purchase.

CRJ also attended the LetsRecycle Reunion Gala Dinner with several of our customers and the CRJ team. It was a great evening and pleased we could contribute to the fundraising for the Child Bereavement Charity. Thank you to everyone who came to our stand, and to those customers who joined us for the Gala Dinner.
