Little did he know that the big bass were looking for some top water action and his timing was good. The first bass was a modestÊ two and a half pounder and that is a pretty good bass but it was only the beginning. A couple a cast later he landed a three pounder and thought he’dÊ had a great day already. But hold on that was only the beginning because heÊ followed that up with another three pounder followed by two more that went for nearly five pounds. All of those were brought in but as always the big one got away. He reported that one that had to weigh seven or eight pounds got after that buzz bait andÊ shattered his line as if it were sewing thread. When he took a look at his cooler it didn’t ever matter that the big one got away. You better get on out there in the Great Outdoors of West Tennessee with a buzz bait and take the kids with you because top water bass fishing is about as exciting as it gets. SUSPECT IN CROCKETT COUNTY MURDER IN CUSTODY ALAMO – An investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and officers from numerous agencies across West Tennessee has resulted in the arrest of an Alamo man in connection to a homicide in Crockett County. At the request of 28th District Attorney General Garry Brown, Thursday, TBI Agents joined Crockett County deputies and officers with the Alamo Police Department in investigating the death of Mary Finch.Ê She was found deceased inside her home in the 300 block of Bells Street in Alamo. Leslie Earl Carter (DOB: 2/14/67) was developed as a suspect and was believed to have driven the victim’s 2014 Leslie E. Carter Chevrolet CruzeÊ from the scene.Ê Thursday evening, Agents secured a warrant for Carter’s arrest on a count of First Degree Murder.Ê Carter was apprehended without incident early Friday morning in Lauderdale County with the assistance of the Ripley Police Department and Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office.Ê He was booked into the Crockett County Jail on counts of First Degree Murder and Theft of Property.Ê He is being held without bond pending his first court appearance.
Persons of Interest in Walmart Theft Investigators with the Jackson Police Department are investigating a Theft of Property case from 2171 S. Highland Avenue, Wal-Mart, and needÊassistance identifying these persons of interest. On August 8th, surveillance video capturesÊtwo black males and a black female bagging approximately $43 dollars worth of merchandise in the self checkout lane and leaving without paying.ÊÊThe subjects are captured bagging meats and a twelve pack of beer. One of theÊblack males hadÊbraids and a goatee and the other black male had a low haircut with a short goatee or beard.Ê The black female is identified as having shoulder length hair.ÊÊAll subjects exited the store and left in a newer white Jeep Grand Cherokee with a temporary tag. Jackson Police Investigate Domestic Related Shooting. Investigators with the Jackson Police Department are investigating a domestic related shooting that occurred in the area of Neff Circle. At approximately 5:00 a.m. September 7th, officers of Quincy Collins is in the Jackson custody for Attempted Police First Degree Murder and Department responded to Aggravated Robbery. He will be arraigned Sept. the area of Neff Circle for 11th in Jackson City Court. calls of a suspicious situation.Ê Callers were advising a female was knocking on doors requesting help.Ê Officers responding to the scene located the female who appeared to be in critical condition because of an apparent gunshot injury.Ê The victim was transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to Memphis.Ê During the investigation, officers identified the victim’s ex-boyfriend, Quincy L. FORMER NEW MARKET POLICE OFFICER INDICTED ON ADDITIONAL CHARGES JEFFERSON COUNTYÊ –Ê Ongoing casework by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in additional charges against a former New Market police officer. Earlier this year, at the request of 4th District Attorney General James Dunn, TBI Agents, along with investigators with the 4thÊJudicial Drug Task Force, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the 4thÊJudicial District Attorney General’s Office, and the Knoxville Police Department, began investigating New Market police officer Joseph Ray Miller. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that indicated Miller attempted to arrange a sexual encounter with a female under the age of 13. On May 3rd, Miller was arrested and charged with one count of Solicitation of a Minor. He was subsequently terminated from his position with the New Market Police Department. As part of the ongoing investigation, agents developed information that Miller attempted to solicit an underage girl for sex on more than one occasion. Last month, the Jefferson County Grand jury returned indictments charging Miller (DOB 01/ 04/1976) with two counts of Solicitation of a Minor, one count of Attempt to Commit Rape of a Child, one count of Solicitation of Child Rape, and one count of Official Misconduct. Today, he turned himself in and was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
Delaware Day Care Worker Allegedly Killed Crying Infant Girl, Charged with FirstDegree Murder byÊAlberto LuperonÊ| 11:08 am, September 6th, 2019 Dejoynay M. Ferguson, 19, is charged in Delaware with allegedly killing an infant girl who was crying. She faces a count of first-degree murder, according toÊstate police. Officers say that on authorities responded to the Little People Child Development Center in New Castle County on Thursday. The call was for an unresponsive 4-month-old, who ended up being declared dead at a hospital. Ferguson, the child’s assigned caregiver, put her hands over the girl’s mouth and nose in order to restrict her breathing on purpose, investigators said. The defendant put the victim back in the crib after the girl became unresponsive. Ferguson told day care’s owner about the unresponsive girl about 20 minutes later, police said. A 911 call was made. Surveillance footage is being used against Ferguson. Police say it shows her picking up the infant by the front of the shirt and putting her on a changing table, according to court documents obtained byÊDelaware Online. Wearing latex gloves, she allegedly held her hands on the girl’s face for over three minutes. The child didn’t move when she took her hands from the face, authorities claim. According to cops, the defendant told them she seized the girl by the shirt because the infant was “fussy” and didn’t stop crying. Little People Development Center’s childcare license was suspended indefinitely over the ongoing investigation, cops said. Ferguson was arraigned, and sent to the Dolores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $1,000,000 cash bail, officers said. Records show she remains there as of Friday morning. It’s unclear if she has an attorney in this matter. Waste Management contract questioned by City of Jackson officials! - LAWSUIT THREATS Waste Management and the City of Jackson Mayor Scott Conger have released statements regarding accusations of broken contracts and threats to sue. The City of Jackson recently sent Waste Management a letter saying “they believe their 2016 contract with the company has been breached.Ê ÊThe City of Jackson says “Waste Management is not picking up bulky items and failing to service all areas of the city.” Friday Jackson Mayor Scott Conger releases the following statement” “The matter concerning the letter we received from the attorneys of Waste Management of Tennessee is still being reviewed and we are continuing to evaluate” Waste management also released a statement saying “Representatives from Waste Management are meeting next week with the Mayor Scott Conger and his staff to discuss the waste management collection contract.Ê We’ll be determining our next steps after that meeting.”

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6496 of Jackson Tennessee held a family community day for the HHC Company of the 194th Engineer Brigade of the Tennessee National Guard. The unit wanted to have a day of rest and relaxation for their soon deploying soliders. They asked the VFW Post 6496 for assistance and the response from the post was immediate and uplifting. With the help of the Blacksmith Restaurant downtown Jackson, who provided 500 hamburgers and hot dog meals along with games, rides, and entertainment for the soliders.Ê They enjoyed a complete day of rest with their families. School Board elects New Chairman “James “Pete” Johnson The Jackson Madison County Board of Education has elected board member James “Pete”Johnson as the new Chairman of the school board.Ê Wayne Arnold was elected as the vice-Chairman. At its September meeting the Jackson Madison County School Board elected board officers for the year and also discussed criteria for the next school superintendent and the process to find a superintendent.Ê Interim Superintendent Ray Washington , formerly the JMCSS chief operating officer was appointed to the position short term until the board conducts a lengthy formal process to appoint a long term superintendent which Washington will not be eligible to apply for. The board came to a consensus they wouldn’t start the search process for the long term superintendent until they reconciled their differences, which they seemed to have did at an August 22 reconciliation dinner. As I looked at this picture from our initial meeting (the first of three); it brought back some fond memories of the tremendous ideas that were presented at these meeting this summer. Dr. Karessa has since went back to St. Louis to work in the school system there. James Christoferson is continuing on with his amazing work with Arise2Read to increase learning skills for second grade students. Harrell Carter brought up significant challenges faced by many in the Jackson community and Charles Adams brought up a great point regarding financial literacy. Ms. Vicki Bunch brought her intern through the Jackson Chamber, Austin Duncan who has since returned to UT Knoxville for his final year of studies. Also, at the meeting and not pictured were Councilman Johnny Dodd, Jenci Spradlin with the Madison Co. Main Library, Michael V. Jones (SWTN Reconnect), Dalton Vann (Arlington School), Ms. Brenda K. BULLDOGS MAUL DRAGONS Lane scoreless in season opener, 34-0 BY BILL MARABLE At exactly four minutes before kickoff, Johnny Russell, DeMichael McQueen, Tarik McKinzie and Ahmad Isaac stepped out of the visitor’s lock room, past the cheering squad and out on the field of Oliver C. Dawson Stadium to open the 2019 football season for the Lane College Dragons. It had been more than fifty years since Lane faced the South Carolina State Bulldogs, their former Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes. In their history, the two schools were tied at three games each, with SCSU winning their last contest 81-0. After winning the toss, the Dragons elected to receive the opening kick. Sophomore quarterback McKinzie, lead the Dragons to three first downs, before the offense stalled at the SCSU 38 yardline. The Bulldogs returned the favor by putting six points on the board in less than a minute, opening up a 7-0 lead with 7:48 to go in the first quarter. On the insuing kick, Anthony Evelyn, ran the ball back to the Bulldogs 49 yardline.Ê The Dragons advanced the ball to the Bulldogs 20, before tanking on 37yard field goal attempt. The Bulldogs returned the favor by putting six points on the board with 10 seconds to go in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead after the opening quarter of play. One area of optimism for Lane was their ability to eat up the clock, beating the Bulldogs in time of possession 9/3 in the first quarter. However, SCSU corrected that stat by grinding nearly six minutes off the clock on the opening drive of the second quarter, capping the drive with a 26 yard field goal.Ê 17-0 (9:20) Dragons; 1, 2, 3, kick. Bulldogs; facing 4th and 4 with the ball on the Lane 39, called time-out, huddled with their coaches, lined up and threw an incomplete pass.Ê Lane took possession on their 40, picked up a first down on two rushing attempts, before McKinzie took a hard hit and had to leave the game.Ê Late in the quarter SCSU was forced to punt, giving Lane one final shot at paydirt in the first half.Ê The Dragons fumbled the kick and the Bulldogs recovered the ball in the endzone.Ê 24-0 (1:55) Lane took possession of the ball on their 35 after the SCSU kick sailed out of bounds.Ê Lane: 1,2.3. kick SCSU took a knee to end the half leading, 24-0. Representing the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), SCSU came into the game big chested off a win over top 20 ranked Wofford and a bump in their own HBCU ranking. The Bulldogs (2-0) had many young, first and second-year players take the field throughout the game, helping increase the depth heading into this coming Saturday’s game at South Florida and for MEAC play later in the season. “We got a chance to play most of our guys, and it was a lot of fun to see them play a little bit,” SC State head football coach Buddy Pough said. “It’s one of those kinds of games where the older guys enjoy seeing the younger guys play.” Lane (0-1) will travel to Tyler, TX for face Texas College (0-0) at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.
