MURDER PAROLEE CONVICTED IN KIDNAPPING, RAPE CASE by: Eryn Taylor - wreg.com Posted: Mar 3, 2020 Antwon Rainer MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Shelby County jury has found a convicted murderer guilty in the rape and kidnapping of a 20-year-old woman several years ago. According to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, Sean Rainer served 16 years behind bars after being convicted in 1994 in connection to a deadly shooting in Orange Mound. He was sentenced to 40 years behind bars but was paroled early. On April 17, 2015, Rainer forced a young woman into his truck and threatened to “snap” her neck if she didn’t cooperate. He also reportedly told her that he had spent time in prison and didn’t mind going back. He then drove her to an apartment near Hacks Cross and Winchester and raped her. Reporting done by WREG at the time suggested the woman was held for some time before she was able to escape. Rainer was convicted on the rape and kidnapping charges on Saturday. He’s scheduled to be sentenced in April. Rainer also goes by the names Antwon Rainer and Sean Mitchell.

SUSPECT ARRESTED CONT’D FROM PAGE 1 A mugshot was not available for Walker at the time of posting. The shooting happened in the 7700 block of Belmont Run Cove on February 24. A neighbor said she heard three gunshots and went outside to find a woman at the corner of Bethay and Belmont Run Cove screaming for help. The victim reportedly told that neighbor that she was in a car with a man and her friend when the man shot her, pushed her out of thevehicle and took off with her friend still inside. Capt. Anthony Buckner with the sheriff’s office said the female victim was taken to the Regional Medical Center where she later died. Authorities began searching for a man driving a black 2008 Chevy Impala with Mississippi tag number DAM-9360. That vehicle was located in the 6900 block of Lake Valley Drive by a person who recognized it after watching the news. A second female victim was found dead inside that vehicle, Buckner said. Lake Valley Drive is about three miles from the scene of the first shooting.

When the Jackson City Council voted 5-3 in favor of a Public Private Partnership to build a new Madison Academic High School on the campus of the University of Memphis Lambuth, Ross Priddy was one of three members of the council to vote against the proposal. That may have come as a surprise to some, considering the school will be constructed in District 5, the district Priddy represents – but he was using caution when he cast his ballot. Priddy – a mortgage loan office at Leaders Credit Union – said he is “for the schools (Madison, Jackson Central-Merry, Pope Elementary) being built, but I also have a duty to make responsible decisions when it ROSS PRIDDY comes to the use of tax payer (PHOTO: COURTESY ADELSBERGER MARKETING) money.” He said the majority of his constituents he heard from asked him to vote in favor of the Public Private Partnership. “But I also had constituents telling me they wanted the school to be built, but had concerns about the process and understood why I voted against it,” Priddy said, “Leading up to the vote, I went back and forth many times as I contemplated how I would vote. “I realized that my district, my neighborhood, and even my own children could potentially benefit, but at the time of the vote I could not consciously vote for it with the information I had at the time.” Continuing, Priddy said “the PPP has proven to be a moving target with changes, updates, and restructuring multiple times in the last few months. “Due to the comptroller’s ongoing investigation, a failure to get a recommendation from the budget committee, and no existing plan to address the city’s current financial situation, I believe we should have paused and considered other options. “My no vote was not a vote against the schools. In 2016, 17,761 people cast their votes. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News reporter Brittany Kyles spoke with Kim Buckley, the Madison County Administrator of Elections, who said why the numbers were so low this year. “A big factor is whether or not an incumbent is running. When the incumbent is running the turn out tends to be a little lower,” she said. Two voters also provided their take on the importance of voting. “It’s a lot that they gave up for the right to vote. To me if you don’t vote then you don’t have a voice,” voter Laverne Franklin said. “My husband, Perry and I, we vote every time there’s an opportunity,” voter Vicki Ridenhour said. For the last 16 years, Tennessee has had a Republican trend, and after receiving the results for Tuesday this trend will continue.
