Local man taken into custody after barricading himself in home for 7 hours

October 22, 2019ÊÊBrittany Kyles - wbbjtv.com JACKSON, Tenn.–“We had the SWAT Unit out here so he is now in custody,” said Jackson Police Chief Julian Wiser. Tuesday afternoon it took investigators with the Jackson Police Department several hours to get a man who barricaded himself inside a home in West Jackson, out. “We’re out tonight at 164 William Street we had a suspect who was evading police,” said Chief Wiser. Wiser said initially officers encountered the man when the Narcotics Unit was doing an investigation around 12:45 p.m. That’s when they say man fled from officers into a home on Williams Street. Investigators said the man did not live in this home but a woman and small child were inside the home at the time. “We managed to get the woman and the child out of the residence,” said Chief Wiser. But it took officers several more hours to get the man out. Chief Wiser said the suspect will possibly be in court for an arraignment by the end of this week.

Paxton and his dad fish together quite often but usually dad gets the better of the stringer.Ê This time the tables turned as the son got the better of the stringer . He normally gets to put the fish in the cooler for dad and play around a while before starting back to fishing. Something about this day was different because his determination was greater than other days. After a few cast he landed one that would turn out to be the catch of the day. Most days he leaves the lake proud of he dad but, this day dad left there proud of his son. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Staff JACKSON, Tenn. — A man accused of a shooting at a Jackson business is in custody. Court documents say Corey Harris, 26, is accused of shooting a man in the parking lot of the Burger King restaurant on Christmasville Road. The victim was taking out the trash behind the restaurant when he was approached by a man with a handgun, according to court documents. Court documents say the victim told police he saw the gun and started to run, when he was shot twice in the back. The victim was taken to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis by helicopter, according to court documents. The victim was able to identify the man who shot him as Corey Harris. Harris is charged with attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
SKULL FOUND IN GIBSON COUNTY IS THE REMAINS OF MILAN’S SARAH MICHELLE PHILLIPS DAVID THOMAS OCTOBER 22, 2019 - wnws.com WNWS.com reports that the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office has identified a skull found in a wooded area over the weekend as the remains of 22-year-old Sarah Michelle Phillips, who was last seen in Gibson County in January. Sheriff Paul Thomas says the confirmation came Tuesday from the Medical Examiner in Memphis after using dental records to identify the skull. The investigation is ongoing
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ANNOUNCER CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Staff HENDERSON Co., Tenn. — A local high school football announcer was arrested Thursday after allegations he continuously sexually abused a child. Court documents say Kerry Lewis Mallard, of Henderson County, admitted to abusing the young child one time in his Wildersville home in August. Mallard announced games for Lexington High School football. Court documents say the victim said the incidents happened while being babysat at Mallard’s home, and continued from April 2018 through August 2019. The victim said the alleged abuse happened when Mallard was the only person around, according to court documents. Mallard was arrested Thursday, but has since been released on $75,000 bond. As a condition of his bond, Mallard is not allowed to have contact with the victim, any other children, or attend any Henderson County Schools.

Let me preference this article by saying Rev. Dr. Charles H. Clark, By Bill Marable Jr. has no intentions of seeking the Superintendent of Schools job for Jackson-Madison County. And as a point of full disclosure, I have known him for 50 years, as we are childhood friends who both grew up in Humboldt.Ê Shout out to the Westside! A former educator, having taught in Humboldt and Jackson, Dr. Clark’s footprint in both school systems still lingers as a proven and valuable commodity. I recently sat down with my old friend, partly to reminisce, but primarily to pick his brain on the proposed reopening of Jackson Central Merry High School.
Why Dr. Clark? It was Dr. Clark who instituted a system at JCM that separated the freshman students from other older students, moving all of their classes to one wing. ÊÊ Like Dr. Clark, Merriweather did not want to see a “patch job” on the old structure. He wanted a totally new construction project. ÊÊ Like Dr. Clark, Merriweather did not want to see a JCM which includes grades 6 - 12. However, Interim superintendent Ray Washington last week revealed that there would indeed be a “patch job” - with sprinklings of new construction at JCM. Apparently, according to Washington, the school was never placed on the “condemned beyond repair list.” Ê And, according to Washington, if there is going to be a “new” JCM, it is going to be a 6 - 12 school. 63-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT CHARGED WITH KILLING MAN IN NORTHÊMEMPHIS BYÊMELISSA MOONÊANDÊERYN TAYLOR MEMPHIS, Tenn. —Ê Memphis police charged a 63-year-old with seconddegree murder after a man was shot early Friday morning in North Memphis. Authorities said they responded to a man down call inside a duplex just before 4 a.m. in the 1100 block of Grant Place. The unidentified victim was unresponsive when they arrived and was pronounced dead on the scene. Police announced Friday evening that Roosevelt Lewis was arrested. The woman paying rent on the duplex says her two brothers live on either side.Ê She says a long-time family friend moved in with one of the brothers a couple of months ago when he got out of prison, and that man is the victim. She said the victim came at Lewis with a cane, and that’s when Lewis shot him. That information has not been confirmed by police.
Man named Tupac A. Shakur arrested in Tennessee byÊASHLEY CLINE | WCYB Staff JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WCYB) — Officers with the Johnson City Police Department arrested 40-year-old, Tupac A. Shakur of Elizabethton, Tennessee on a variety of charges, including aggravated assault, resisting arrest, simple possession of meth and unlawful drug paraphernalia. Officers responded to a call on East Unaka Avenue on Friday around 5:40 p.m. in reference to a person with active warrants from the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. When officers arrived, they said they saw a vehicle leaving with Shakur inside it. The vehicle was later located and contact was made with Shakur. As he was being arrested, authorities report Shakur pulled away and reached for his waistband. He then turned towards officers with a knife in his hand, according to reports. After a brief struggle with the officers, he was placed in custody. Shakur also had a syringe and multiple baggies of methamphetamine in his possession, authorities said. He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center where was held on an $18,000 bond.
