LOCAL DOCTOR PASSES AWAY AFTER 30-YEAR CAREER - wbbj.com JACKSON, Tenn. — AÊlocal doctor who died this past weekend is being remembered for the impact he made on those who knew him as well as the community he served. Dr. Clarence Gooch was an OB-GYN in Jackson and later expanded his practice to Bolivar and Humboldt. He was the first African American OB-GYN with privileges at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Dr. Gooch passed away Saturday night, January 26.

On this past weekend my friend Chris Smoot was going on a rabbit hunt with me and my buddy.Ê He was running a little late so he and Josh was to met us in the woods and after about thirty minutes we finally ran up on them.Ê Not only did we run up on them but his 10 year old daughter also. You would have to see this bottom to understand the magnitude of this effort.Ê Caitlyn is a petite little girl with the hunting grind of experienced outdoorsmen. First of all it was thirty something degrees with marsh and tall weeds along with big ditches to cross. When I saw her walk a log while holding a 20 gauge shotgun to get across a ditch that the rest of us crawled to get to the other side I was done. I heard her tell her dad she was going to walk cross it and his response was go for it. At one point I observed her poring water out of her boot and she never complained from 10 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon and took every step we took. Man accused of robbing acquaintance after walking into home uninvited, sitting down forÊchat POSTED 6:59 AM, JANUARY 30, 2019, BYÊERYN TAYLOR MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An 18-year-old was arrested on Tuesday after being accused of robbing an acquaintance at gunpoint after walking into his home and sitting down for a chat. The incident happened on January 22 in the 1700 block of Ozan Street. The victim said he and several others were inside his home getting ready to eat when Carderrious Craft and two other men walked in without knocking. They all sat down and talked for a minute because they knew Craft and at least one of the other men from high school. Craft then asked the victim to walk with him to the kitchen. Once there, the man said Craft pulled out two guns, laid them on the table and said “you know what this is.” He then demanded Craft’s Carderrious Craft money as the other suspects reportedly pointed guns at the other guests. All three suspects then left with $800 in cash. The 18-year-old was arrested on Tuesday after officers tracked him down to a home in the 1600 block of Duke Street. While searching the home and Craft’s car, police said they located a mason jar filled with marijuana, two digital scales,Ê a loaded 9mm extended clip with 30 live rounds and a full face ski mask. He was charged with drug possession, aggravated robbery and possession of drug paraphernalia. The other suspects involved in the robbery have not been identified.

6 Candidates for Jackson City Mayors’ race have picked up qualifying petitions The upcoming May 7, 2019 race for City of Jackson Mayor and City Council continues to grow.Ê Currently there are only 3 candidates who have formally announced their plans to seek the Mayor’s office and 3 others who have picked Up qualifying petitions at the Madison County Election Commission. Currently former state representative Jimmy Eldridge, United Way President Scott Conger and educator Dr Jerry Woods have formally announced their plans to seek the Mayors position.Ê However GOP Chairman Mark Johnstone, City Court Clerk Daryl Hubbard and city councilwoman Vicky Foote have picked up petitions but have not formally announced their intentions yet.Ê Important dates to remember for 2019 City of Jackson election:

(NASHVILLE), January 24, 2019 – State Senator Ed Jackson (RJackson) has been elected vice-chairman of the Veterans’ Caucus in the Tennessee General Assembly.Ê The caucus, which advocates for issues of importance to veterans, consists of 27 members from the House of Representatives and Senate who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.Ê The Senate and House rotate the chairmanship of the Caucus every two years, with Jackson set to take the helm in 2021.Ê Jackson served in the 30th Armored Brigade of the Army National Guard for seven years. Senator Jackson has sponsored numerous laws helping veterans during his legislative tenure,ÊincludingÊlegislation providing increased property tax relief for 100 percent servicerelated disabled veterans, laws funding veterans treatment courts; the STRONG Act tuition reimbursement program; and a statute ensuring that military training counts towards a degree.
