How to Create Rhinestone
Templates With Cricut
A complete step-by-step guide to creating professional rhinestone designs using your Cricut Maker or Explore series machine.
Essential Supplies
Cricut Machine
Maker or Explore series with standard grip cutting mat
Template Material
Rhinestone template flock or hotfix material
Rhinestones
SS10 or SS20 sizes with matching font design
Heat Press
Or household iron for applying rhinestones
Design Your Pattern
Option A: Pre-made
Design
Upload SVG file to Design Space
Browse and select your design
Insert onto canvas
Option B: Create Your Own
Use Shapes tool for custom patterns
Add rhinestone grid to design
Adjust spacing to match rhinestone size
Note: Cricut Design Space doesn't currently support rhinestone fills, so you'll need to create individual circles manually.
Resize and Prepare
Set Circle Size
Resize each circle to 0.127 inches diameter for SS10 rhinestones
Verify Layers Ensure all circle layers are set to Cut in Design Space
Attach Elements
Use Attach function to keep everything in place during cutting
Mirror Design
Remember to mirror text designs for proper orientation after pressing
Configure Material Settings
Browse Materials
Tap "Browse All Materials" in Design Space
Add New Material
Click green "+" tab at bottom of screen
Name Material
Label as "Rhinestone Flock" and save
Set Pressure
Select "More Pressure" for all mats
Cut the Template
Step-by-Step Cutting
Place flocked template material on standard grip mat (sticky side down)1.
Use brayer tool to press material firmly onto mat2.
Click "Go" to begin cutting process3.
Consider double-cut setting for detailed designs4.
Weed out tiny circles to create holes5.
ProTip: If using "Felt" setting creates debris, try flocked paper setting with less pressure instead.
Apply Rhinestones
Secure Template
Stick template to clean, flat surface like a tray
Pour Stones
Spread rhinestones over entire tray area
Brush Into Holes
Gently brush until all holes are filled
Remove Excess
Shake off extra rhinestones from surface
Transfer and Heat Press
1 Cut Transfer Tape
Use heat-resistant rhinestone transfer tape
2 Press Tape Firmly press over design to pick up stones
3 Prepare Fabric Wash and iron garment until wrinkle-free
4 Apply Heat Press 15-20 seconds with firm pressure
5 Peel Tape
Remove while warm, re-press if needed

Use high-quality rhinestones resistant to fading and chipping
Proper Adhesive
Select compatible adhesive for your material surface
Correct Application
Apply hotfix rhinestones properly with adequate curing time
