EDITOR'S LETTER
The MILESTONE issue can’t believe we are already on our 10th issue! It feels like we started this magazine an eternity ago. The original purpose behind the magazine was to promote women in the arts, women doing marvelous things in the name of solidarity. However as the magazine evolved, the vision was realized on a far grander scale. As the popularity of your magazine grew, we came to a point where a name change was necessary. Thus was the name changed to CREATIV [MODERN BOHEMIAN MAGAZINE] a magazine whose mission was to highlight artists in general and not only focus on women. Talented Men and Women are taking the world by storm and it’s definitely a privilege for us to use these pages to promote the individuals who are certainly making an impact.
I
As you can see, this issue is jam packed. The last few months certainly have been eventful for us here at CREATIV. Our calendars were filled with events from Funkshion Fashion Week to RAW’s famous bi-monthly event GLIMPSE. We even found the time to sit with an upcoming artist who is about to take the music industry by storm. The icing on the cake was including celebrities who were spotted at Funkshion. I won’t tell you who, you’ll have to read the magazine to find out. I know that every issue exudes nothing but joy and pride, knowing that we have surpassed ourselves. In regards to this, our 10th issue, I have no words to describe all these wonderful emotions that i’m feeling all at once.. I would also like to take a moment to thank my loyal contributors, as well as welcome my new ones. YOU made this magazine what is today. You believed in a project that can only grow from here. Your work is being noticed here in the US and has also crossed the globe into the UK. It’s indeed a great feeling to know our magazine is traveling internationally. My promise is that I will never stop working for what I love, nor should you. It has been a wonderful journey so far and I can’t wait to see what else the future holds for this magazine. We will continue to give a voice to the wonderful artists who are making an impact in their community. The world needs to know about these heroes and we will be front and center to bring you all the action. CORHINN BRUNOT Founder and Editor in Chief Follow me on Twitter @ccwcnetwork

DETERMINED TO SUCCEED
M
y name is Lola Chél and I am many things. I am a model, a YouTube vlogger, and I am running my own designer thrift shop. I am looking to start designing my own line as well. With all that I’ve been able to do, it’s surreal to realize it only started a little over a year ago. I became a model first. A surprising feat might I add seeing as how I never saw myself as a model type. I didn’t wear make-up, I wasn’t much of a picture taker, and as far as walking I was more on the clumsy side. Yet even though I possessed the exact opposite qualities of what you would expect from a model I, with the help of the modeling troupe I joined Eclipse Fashion Society, I became not only a skilled runway model but I now had a foot in the door of the fashion industry. From there I just had to see how far I could go in fashion if I put my mind to it. So last summer I started my portfolio, took up runway shows, and made it a point to connect with new people who are pursuing similar aspirations in the fashion world. Then came vlogging, the affectionate term for video blogging. I realized for all the amazing people I met, very few of them actually got the exposure they deserved. They were often deemed having too little experience or labeled as up and coming. I decided there needed to be a platform on which they could be highlighted, so I created Lola Loves. I hosted the shows and my boyfriend Deonte Wilson did the filming and editing. These episodes are going into their second season and now we’re really focusing on showcasing talent country wide. So far the
30 | CREATIV | May - Aug 2015 | www.creativmag.com
show has gotten a great response. From vlogging I realized I often had people take notice of not only what I’m saying on the show but also what I’m wearing. Most of my outfits truth be told are a product of thrift. So many people always say the same thing, they would thrift if they knew how to find good pieces. Well when I see a need, I try to fill that void. I decided to pool my great thrift finds, designer pieces received from runway shows, and name brand consignment garments gathered from consignment shops. Once I get a loyal following I will begin to slowly unveil designs of my own. All of this is a domino effect from modeling but my roots for the love of the arts go down deeper than that. Since childhood I have been participated in dance, animation, theatre, and later poetry. Due to this I am deeply rooted in visual as well as performing arts. I feel like it's fundamental to everyone. We need to have creative outlets just as much as we need science, technology, engineering and math. They both create a balance; I just don’t think the arts get the recognition they deserve for balancing out our minds and our world. This realization alone is enough for me to continue being a spokesperson and stage for the promotion of the arts. As said before, I am many things. I am a model, vlogger, operator of an online thrift store and soon to be designer of my own line. Through all of this I not only represent myself, I help shine light on others as well. I hope to continue to give people a voice throughout my endeavors and eventually elevate them as well.

GETTING TO KNOW
M
eeting Saskya was an experience like none other, the first time I've heard this young star express herself, I was at an event taking place during Haitian Heritage Month (celebrated in South Florida during the month of May). She took her guitar and naturally let her emotions and love for her country take life trhough her melodious voice. During an interview with The Urban Daily she was aksed "How did you get such a unique name?" She responded: “My mom read a Creole story book when I was a young girl about a little girl name Saskya who was very caring and had a good heart. My mom felt I would be that person so she gave me the name. I can undoubtedly confirm that a good heart she has, shy humble and mostly quiet of charater, Saskya becomes this ball of life when she takes the stage.
Saskya Sky A Star on the rise As a self thought guitarist, her musical career, believe it or not started just seven years ago. Discovering that she had the talent and a deep love for music, she decided to pursue her dream while truly putting the hard work and dedication towards her present success. It is an honor and privilege to bring you this exlcusive interview revealing this talented gem.

1- how old were you when you first knew that you could sing? I was nine years old when my passion for singing started but it wasn't until 2009 when I knew that I had a voice to sing for the masses. Winning Black Planets One Minute To Shine contest opened the door for me to pursue singing 100%.
2- how challenging is it to write your songs? What inspires you to write them ? It can be a bit of a challenge but over the years I've learned to just take my time and write as I feel and not worry about how my work will be viewed by others. My life is my inspiration. I usually write about things that I've experienced. When I write a fun song it's because I'm feeling inspired by enjoying life. 3- your recent song pretty girl whip is definitely the new summer club anthem, what was your inspiration behind it ? The whip dance is so very popular and I wanted to add flavor to it by creating an anthem for females to be pretty when they whip dance. I thought it'd be nice to give my fans something fun to do the whip dance to. 4- when it comes to your sense of style it's definitely unique? Do you get styled by someone or you come up with it yourself? For the most part it is a collaboration between my myself and my manager. I once had a publicist named Olivia Wolff and she really got me out of my shell and took me to the next level regarding cutting edge. My hair and makeup and wardrobe is done by me and my manager. I do get 42 | CREATIV | May - Aug 2015 | www.creativmag.com
fashion tips from the rest of my team but I always have the final say. I'm like 'is this cute or nah?. lol' 5- that could not have been easy for you as a Haitian decent do you get criticism for your style choices or is the community pretty accepting of it? I just do what makes me happy and believing that with God by my side everything will be okay. So as far as the criticism goes, yes it exists. I've been told by fans that the music industry is the devils work, that I had surgery on my nose, and so much more. I can't pay attention to any of it because I must remain focused and not let the negativity interfere with my goals. For the most part I do learn something from the negativity and that is, the fact that negative people will always be lurking about and I must remain ambitious and strong. 6- with your versatility what genre of music do you prefer singing? And in what language? I love all genres of music! I love the fact that I can sing in English, Creole, French and Spanish. It allows me to display my diversity as an artist and shows that I can relate to different cultures. To my knowledge I'm a one-of-a-kind in this journey to being an international artist coming from South Florida by way of Haiti.
I love my country and my people!
Saskya is definitely no stranger to humanitarian work. She is always a the forefront to represent her country Haiti.
Saskya poses with Chef Clodagh McKenna at HAITI WEEK in Dublin Ireland. Where she performed at the annual gala in honor of Haiti.

7- we recently heard the good news about you signing with a major label are the rumors true? Rumors are rumors. My team is currently working on taking me to the next level. As more info comes in, I will allow you to be the first to post the story. Breaking News... Saskya Sky signs with BLANK! ha ha ha! 8- what is your next album about in a whole and when will it be released? Well currently I'm working on my EP. It's pretty much about me and my current feelings as I journey to the top. There is no release date at this time. 9- your personality surely contributed to your following ,also would you like to pursue comedy or is that just a hobby? Comedy for me is a way to show appreciation to my culture and sharing the humor of growing up with Haitian parents. I won't say for sure that I'll pursue a career in doing comedy but I'm definitely considering doing some acting in the future which may involve comedy. I like the the fact that through my comedy, my fans get an inside look at how I was raised and what my real like was and is like. 10- you are young and full of life ever thought of settling down? Is there a BAE that we don't know about? Maybe, maybe not. Corhinn, why you want to put my personal life on blast! lol! How about this....should a wedding date be set you will be invited. I'm not saying that I'm dating, I'm just saying that if and when I do, you will get to be the first to post the story. At this moment it's all about the music for me. Anything else is a distraction. 11- what's next for you any major projects we should expect collaboration perhaps? There are a few things lined up but nothing concrete right now. 12 do you consider yourself a role model in your community? I would say I am a role model for the underprivileged, bullied and minority of people who believe that making it to the top is not obtainable. It is my mission to show the world that it doesn't matter where you're from, what color your skin is, nor what language you speak, but with hard work and dedication, your dreams can become true.
13- do you ever think that you'll ever do a self entitled concert in haiti? For haiti? I would do a free concert tomorrow if offered! I love my country and my people! It would be an honor to perform in Haiti on a large stage before I perform on any other large stage, anywhere else! 14- Finally do you have any words of wisdom for those who would like to follow the same path as you
Yes. Go for it! But do know that the road will be a bumpy one. Every bump is a new opportunity. Stay focused and clear on your direction. Remember that every situation is an isolated one, so do not let any bump discourage you. Know that you have support from family and friends and do not take any of it for granted. Finally keep God first for he is the one who had given you the talent and endurance to make it through. With him all things are possible. Check her music on : https://soundcloud.com/saskyasky

Sizzling SUMMER Styles
A
s summer approaches and the temperatures begin to rise, we are reminded of two things during the next few squelching months: heat and frizz. These two nuisances can wreak on a naturalista’s hair, not to mention throw away all the pain-staking hours it takes to keep hair clean and coiffed. Now that summer is here, I’m sure you feel the need to increase the amount of wash days in your routine because of of the heat. By incorporating protective styles into your routine, you can give your hair a much needed 2-4 week (sometimes more) styling vacation. Here are five protective styles that will be sure to keep you hands out of your hair and enjoying the outdoors. more casual like cornrows, braids can also give you a few weeks of rest.

3.Marley: Very similar to Havana twists, Marley twists are made of a different texture of hair extension texture. There are also Senegalese and chunky twists. Whatever you call them, twists are a super cute way to rock out the summer.
4.Braids are a long-time favorite, these also come in a variety of different styles. Whether you’re going for smaller micro or mini braids or larger braids like box braids, the various types of braids can make styling for the summer super fun! Braids can be made chic for a summer wedding in styles such as French braids or you can go for something
weaves are yet another way to keep your tresses protected. Many people don’t know a lot of women wear their natural hair in protective styles using weaves but want the versatility of unbraided hair. Weaves can be installed either by braiding natural hair under an installed unit or by bonding weave onto a clean and healthy scalp using bonding glue. Weaves come in straight, curly or wavy hair textures. Wigs, similar to weaves can be installed atop of the scalp without the use of needles, threads or bonding. Wigs simply are attached to the scalp and can be taken off within seconds, making them an easy alternative for those who seek convenience.

what is the inspirtation behind your art? My inspiration behind my art is just something that I find interesting, the different cultures, different aspects of life, just trying to bring smiles to people's faces, I use a lot of bright colors in my artwork to draw people to it.
Are you sending a message through your art? I try to bring together these two hip hop artists because people recognize their music, I'm into hip hop as well.
Do you own a gallery? I expose my art through social media I have instagram @mr. I see that you do portraits, jawbones. and my website is www. why? artist-ocrat.com. because people recognize familiar faces and relate to it. I try not to limit myself in terms of styles, for example I use acrilic , oil drawing illustration, color pencil .

SANDY ROSE
All of my painting are done by hand, from my hands to the canvas. the only paintbrush I use is for india ink witch is the black for the detail and the lining but everything else, I just put the paint right on my hand. Why that style of painting? I believe that my hand will push the paint where I want it and and it will blend where I want it and it just feels natural and I get the effects that I want when I paint. I started a year and a half ago and never looked back since. Is it a collection? I started painting in really bright bold colors lately. Yes it's a start of a new series that I'm working on called light and love
TEEKA ELLIS Are you from Africa is that why your art is African based?
No I'm actually Jamaican but I appreciate all cultures and Africa is a part of me so of course I embrace my african side. I like the fact that you are not afraid to expose the nakedness of the african woman so what is the inspiration behind this one?
That piece is called THE NUBIAN and the facial expression to me is the focal point. It is a tribal piece so it does
expose the rawness of being an African and not necessarily the traditional clothing. What is the process that you go through when you paint?
I don't really have one, my inspiration is people in general so I do pull concepts from music, just people's faces, I love faces. How do you expose your art?
It's on social media for right now instagram @teeka_artist
She looks like she is lion is that correct? She is a belly dancer, a lot of my paintnings are recent travels that I've gone to or any meditation or emotions that I've been going through. Just like any artist I go through a slur of emotions. I'm very influenced by cultures, I recently was in the middle east, so I saw a lot of belly dancing and also my own personal culture my background part latin and part new orleans creole. Do you have a gallery? I have a facebook page wich is artist Sandy Rose and I have my instagram which is @sandyrose311 and I don't have a studio yet but maybe in the future I will.
JAMES KNILL Why abstract and not portraits for example?
That's called transitory mist 4.
I like the freedom of abstract, I think with What was the process when you paint? portrait you are kind of locked into an image but The process is really to kind of create some dept in abstract I can kind of do whatever I want . in a very minimalistic way and I use instinctly I'm using the yellow that's painted into the I'm glad you said that because with background. abstract your audience is able to formulate whatever they want in their mind. Is this a particular collection?
Yes however they are part of colors that I use often but it is a certain body of work so (pointing at the yellow, green and orange colored painting) I like this particular painting what is is called?
It looks 3D were you going for that?
Yes I was going for that I would say that this piece starts to kind of border into optical art . Where is your gallery located?
Its called Amanda James gallery it's with my partner and we are on 412 East Ocean Ave Boyton Beach Fl 33435. www.creativmag.com | May -Aug 2015 | CREATIV | 71
GLORIEL VEILLARD Finding Gloriel was a bit intriguing as I rome the room to find artists to talk to, I stand in front of her work without knowing that she was right there listening. My thoughts were that her pictures depicted sadness, pain and horror. However she had this to say
"you go through this everyday people have issues like this like suicide. All my pictures are taken through film I go in the dark room and I develop them and scan them." She then shared with me that her sister experienced suicide. Truly a masterpiece. A roller coaster of emotions.

TERRAN STEED How did you learn how to draw like this?
My foundation was in middle school where I've learned the fundamentals on how to use grafite how to understand proportion and scale, and then I just started from there. I was 5 when I started this but I took a long break and started back again 3 years ago, I was inspired by artists such as kelvin okafor and this inspiration just helped me grow to the next level
You are great at catching light since in photography light is very important?
Do you use different styles of pencils to do this?
This is why my wife hates for me to draw her because I catch every detail, LOL.
I use a combination of grafite powder, charcoal powder and pencil and I also use white charcoal to sketch the highlights.
My reference is a photo, I just have a gift to just draw what I see. Terran drew him and his wife for his wedding, he actually cought the detail of the photographer taking the picture through their eyes

Watch That Appetite! "Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by every instruction or directive that comes forth from the mouth of his Master Designer" On your journey towards establishing your vision, fulfilling your purpose and building your legacy, opportunities to re-route will always present themselves. When it comes to some of these route re-calculations, you might immediately deem them a "bad fit" for your ideals. It is the very ones most would perceive to be the "deal of a lifetime. However, these seemingly diverted paths are the ones you will need to pay extra attention to. Good Ain’t Always Right Isn't it interesting how these kinds of opportunities often surface right at those times when you find yourself on the cusp of a breakthrough; when you've finally gotten yourself together and are having a clear sense of direction of the path you need to traverse? Many successful people will tell you that at very pivotal moments in 78 | CREATIV | May - Aug 2015 | www.creativmag.com
their lives, they were presented with a destiny defining decision. The kind of decision that could have sabotaged their dreams or done irreparable and even unrecoverable damages, had they not deliberately chosen to follow their deep-seated convictions and stuck with their God-given assignment. Stick With The Principles Here's a principle I extracted from The Human's Manual For Living and have made a chief cornerstone in my life; which has often served as wise counsel in those destiny defining moments when a decision is warranted. It was spoken by the greatest philosopher to ever walk this planet called Earth, Jesus Christ; "Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by
every instruction or directive that comes forth from the mouth of his Master Designer". Who best to guide and advise you regarding a major move that could either prove viable and catalytic to your overall agenda or detrimental? Trust Your Designer If you could see beyond the bend in the road or tell what could happen in the next second, then this read will not be of much value to you. If you have recognized as I have however, that sometimes, what you hear, or see, or like, or perceive to be right, might really be an illusion or even an outright snare designed to throw you off-track or even terminate your purpose, let me invite you to do what I do. Get the 4-1-1 from your Master Designer, every time. Run your interests by Him. Trust Him from the bottom of your heart and do not keep trying to figure out everything on your own. Listen for His voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track. Do not assume that you know it all. Watch that appetite!

How Far Would You Go to Save Your Relationship?
O
ften times, we stay in relationships with our partners for reasons like the number of years we’ve been involved, money, sex, the children shared together, or even the biggest one of all: convenience. But how much hurt, pain, annoyance, infidelity, unattractiveness, and turmoil will you go through to save an already failing relationship? While love from a partner can feel really good, it can also feel good to walk away from a relationship rather than saving a pile of nothingness. In the end, you end up empty and alone because of the expectation you had for something that no longer needed to exist. At the beginning of summer this year, a woman in Texas lost her life while chasing her estranged husband and his mistress along a highway in the husband’s car. What started as a high speed chase to find answers, ended in misery for the surviving family members of the wife. The story: There was trouble in the married couple’s relationship, they had three children together, the husband was said to have been acting suspicious, the husband was finally caught cheating, and sadly it ended with a deceased wife, a man, and his mistress, on the scene of the accident…
TONI DOUGLAS Toni is in pursuit of obtaining her Doctorate degree in the field of Education while also pursuing her goals of publishing her first book, "What NOT to Do While Dating Your Non-Existent Boyfriend."
While many of us don’t end up dead physically from our relationships, we end up lifeless emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. We stay in relationships longer than their expiration dates only to suffer tremendously in the end. For some of us, there are NO children, NO marriage, NO house, and NO contractual attachments. Yet and still, we try to salvage our relationships with our partners for reasons we either hate to admit or reasons that have no value to the betterment of our lives. Then there are some of us who do have a lot at stake, and we go to our wits’ end to save what we can from the relationship although we’re already broken down. So the question remains: How far would you go to save your relationship? Is it worth all of your money to save your relationship? Is it worth your pride and livelihood? Is it worth being ostracized from your family to save your relationship? Is it worth your spirituality and well-being? Is it worth being embarrassed? Is it worth sleeping with a person you don’t love? Or is your relationship worth your LIFE?

YOURS IN HEALTH
Contemplating My Life pla·teau plaˈtō/ noun noun: plateau; plural noun: plateaux; plural noun: plateaus 1. an area of relatively level high ground. 2. a state of little or no change following a period of activity or progress. After seeing much progress from my fitness routine, I hit a point where I was not seeing any more changes in my body. The workouts weren’t as challenging to me as they were in the beginning. Don’t get me wrong, they were fun, I loved the choreography, the energy, and overall vibe of the class. I thought about possibly hiring a personal trainer. However between the cost of my gym membership and the cost of a trainer, I realized the sum would equal the amount of money I would pay on a monthly basis to exercise at Orange Theory. My friends who are current members speak highly of the classes there, so I decided take a trial class and that’s when the contemplating of my life began.
didn’t even realize you were exercising.” I read that text, and you guessed it, I contemplate my life. There was one evening I left the gym, barely able to walk to my car. I made it home with only enough energy to shower and go to bed. I contemplated my life. I remember being at work one day, and the muscle soreness hit my like a ton of bricks suddenly. This was two days after the workout. I contemplated my life. Due to alterations in my work schedule I know have to work out in the morning. My alarm goes off at 5:15 am, you better believe I’m contemplating my life when I hear my wake up tone. There are mirrors throughout the exercise areas. I contemplate my life during each workout. I’m my own personal cheerleader in my head. I contemplate my life and realize that no matter how challenging this is, the 60 minutes I spend in here today, are well worth it. As the clock grinds down to our cool down time, I contemplate my life perhaps 30 more times. But I’m determined. I won’t give up. This class will not be the end of me, it will build a stronger me.
Moments of Contemplation Yours In Health, I attended my first class and I felt like I was Dr. Cynthia Jean, Pharm.D. beaten up, chewed up, spat back, out and then (Currently in a state of contemplation) beaten up again. The level of soreness, not just in one isolated area, takes getting used to. I was sore from head to toe. I contemplated. I texted my friend that evening and she told me, “Unfortunately, you will never get used to the soreness you feel. You’ll feel pain in places you

Permit me, oh God to Penetrate the hearts of your People. Grant me the Privilege to Permeate the chaotic areas of their lives. Please send me. I want to touch the wounded Places of the Earth. Let me be Perceived as change. Let the riotous be Perplexed. Provide me to calm the storms. Let my name ring throughout their spirits, my essence Pouring from their Pores. I am [Pe]ace.

Adam: What you thinking about ? Eve: I messed up, I really did. I’m sorry, so sorry. Now my head is chaotic, I can’t sit still. Adam: Everybody messes up, it’s nothing to get stuck on. I messed up too. Eve: I can't eat, I can't sleep, it's a horrible feeling. I walk around aimlessly, w/no purpose, just searching. Trying to find that PEace that we had once before, before I ate this stupid fruit. I was just so caught up on knowing more, but now I wish I knew less. Adam: It’s never too late, we just lost sight of what we’re here for. There’s no such thing as going back to how it use to be, now we just have to learn how to find PEace within this struggle. Eve: Sometimes I just wanna relieve myself of this turmoil by shortening my life. Sometimes I wanna drink muddy water, or inhale crushed rock just to ease the pain Adam. God: And what’s that gonna solve ? Just gonna prolong the turbulence in your temple. Everything you need, I’ve placed in you. Take the time to love yourselves again. Find out what makes you happy. Then the traffic jam in your mind will be cleared, and you will have PEace. Eve: That’s why I bit the fruit ! Why can’t you just tell me exactly what I need to do oh divine one ? God: What would be the fun in life if I told you everything to do step by step ?

Love me Please love me I’m all "u" got and "u" know it Why do "u" treat me like this ? Why do "u" put everybody before me ? "U" don’t want me ? Constantly changing my appearance Covering up what should be shown Exploiting what "u" need to save I’m sorry your energy was transferred to this vessel, there’s nothin we can do about that now, just accept me and the world will accept "u". Stare into that glass, speak into it, say it. Say what "u" want, say what "u" seek for in the people that "u" pursue. There’s something in attention that "u" can’t find. "i" know what is, look at me tell me what "u" always wanted to hear. "i" (LO)ve "u"
Do you not see me? Are you blinded to my presence? I was here. I am here. I will always be Here. Why do you seek me when I have never departed? I feel your constant yearning for my touch, Yet you slip out of my grasp in search for Lust. Why do you confuse me with her? Why don’t you understand that I do not fulfill these physical desires? You know me, Yet you call her by My name. She is evil. She disguises herself as me within others. She sells fantasies of happiness, Of peace, But she delivers not. She is the seed of hatred. She is pleasing to the mind, Yet murderous to the heart. See me. Look constantly in My eyes. I’ve dwelt within you since the beginning of time. I walk with you through every storm in your life. I will hide you under the shadow of my wings. I was sent to comfort and protect you. I am the voice inside of you telling you that I [Lo]ve you. I am [Lo]ve, Growing inside of you. No longer shall you search for me. I was here. I am here. I will always be Here.
