hello design friends −

hello

welcome to design download vol.2 ! before I begin, how is everyone doing? I have been struggling with personal & professional things.my creativity has definitely taken a hit and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what to do for this design download, until a discussion occurred around an LA event focused on fresh perspectives. that is when I went into research mode and found an article on Forbes—“Clearing the Way Toward A Fresh Perspective.” Joanna Dutra, MBA, references with proverbial phrase about a glass being half full or half empty indicating your level of optimism, but “sometimes our glass gets foggy. And we’re not able to see properly how we ‘should’ be looking at a situation. We’re able to identify a positive as well as negative outlook—but we’re also realistic. If our glass is foggy, we are in an in-between state. And I don’t know about you, but I’m not my best when I can’t see clearly.” This resonated with me—it has felt like I have had a foggy glass as of late. Timing is a funny thing because I received an email by Cheryl Durst at IIDA on “Advice From A Part-Time Optimist”—tips for navigating volatility and calming your nervous system, plus 14 suggestions to help you boost your happiness. It has some great suggestions that I recommend checking it out if you have a foggy glass like me.

so erin, what is this design download going to be about, well, funny you should ask because as I was thinking about what inspired me, my brain kept going back to the dresses designed by Harris Reed and worn by Odessa A’zion and Suki Waterhouse at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. I was not super familiar with Reed’s designs but I was very attracted to the sculptural/architectural qualities of these dresses with their maximalism patterning. my four muses for this download will be from Harris Reed’s Fall & Spring 2024-26 Ready-To-Wear collections. these designs inspired me to curate palettes inspired by the colors, textures and patterns, so boldly used in Harris Reed’s designs. I’m obsessed with these palettes, and I hope you are too!

until next time... e

”Fashion

is a perfect medium for fluidity. The clothes we wear signal who we are to the world — whether we want to dazzle or just blend in.”

Harris Reed

”To be unapologetically ourselves, sometimes we need to rewrite a few of the rules or just burn them to the ground, tough as that may be.”
