In this issue, we showcase Tadcaster Creates Art Festival 2026 which is a celebration of creativity and art within the local community, running from

Thursday 3rd - Sunday 6th September at a range of different venues around Tadcaster.

We also spoke with Tony from Rooms For All to learn more about the company’s background and story.

New building and expansion project underway

We are delighted to announce that our brand-new building expansion is underway.

This expansion marks a significant milestone for Jigsaws, enabling us to increase our capacity and better serve our community. With the new facilities, we will be able to offer more funded sessions across our four age-specific rooms, ensuring that each child receives care and education tailored to their developmental stage. In addition, we will expand both before and after school care, providing greater flexibility and support for families.

Tadcaster Creates Art Festival 2026

A

celebration

of

creativity and art within

the

local community, running from Thursday 3rd -

Sunday

6th September at a range of different venues around Tadcaster

The event aims to showcase the wealth of talent within the local area. Activities will include street art, window painting, live performances, open studios, art exhibitions, practical workshops, uplifting music, relaxing crafting, inspiring photography, enticing shops and much more.

There will be a trail of exhibitions, events and hands-on activities with something for all the family, most of which will be free or on a pay-asyou-can-afford basis.

Tadcaster Creates is an initiative run by a partnership of professional, semi-professional and other creative people and organisations in and around Tadcaster working on a voluntary basis for the benefit of the community.

Tadcaster Barn and Tadcrafters CIC are part of the steering group.

Su Morgan, Director, Tadcrafters CIC, told Tadcaster Echo: “We would love to have an arts centre in Tadcaster to enable people to access events, workshops and exhibitions more often, but in the meantime we will be showcasing our talented community in a wide variety of venues including local shops and businesses.

“We want to encourage local people to make the

most of what is available in their own community and entice more visitors into the town to support the local economy.”

How is the September event different to the June event?

The June event was centred around the 10-year anniversary exhibition of Tadcrafters CIC, an organisation set up to harness local skills and resources to support the community as a whole in the aftermath of the devastating flooding and bridge collapse in late 2015.

The June festival featured lots of crafting workshops like beginners’ crochet and macrame, which were so popular we had to turn people away, so we’ll run some of these again but, because it’s the school holidays, we’ll also have a greater emphasis than last time on activities that are available to younger people, like learning to express yourself with paint.

During the day on the Thursday, an internationally famous group of street artists from the Freedom Festival Arts Trust will be out and about in Tadcaster as well as at The Barn. They champion artistic risk, support inclusive participation and ensure world-class culture remains free and accessible to all. Activities and exhibitions will

run until the Sunday but some of the street art and enthusiasm will hopefully endure for much longer.

Why is this event important to the community?

Tadcaster is at the beginning of a new era, and many people are ready to embrace a positive change. The community wants Tadcaster to be a thriving, lively town and a great place to live and work. We want to develop new links and associations so we can move into the future with a positive, can-do attitude, and inspire regeneration. The people in Tadcaster are incredibly supportive and deserve to have the sustainable, creative and economic opportunities available in other towns. We hope to help make that possible.
