The MoveMENt CIC was set up to support people in the community, especially men, through physical activity, mentoring,

and mental health support

The MoveMENt with New Beginnngs CIC aims to provide safe, inclusive spaces where families and young people can get active, gain confidence, and feel part of a supportive network. Over time, they’ve developed programmes for dads, teens, and kids to strengthen family bonds and promote wellbeing.

Scunthorpe Journal spoke to Stacey, founder of The MoveMENt New Beginnings CIC: “I lead the organisation in creating communityfocused fitness and wellbeing programmes, with a particular emphasis on supporting men, families, and young people to stay active while building strong connections.

“My role is to design sessions, oversee delivery, and ensure everyone feels welcome and included.

“Our Dads & Kids sessions are all about fun, shared fitness experiences that help families connect while getting active.

“Sessions include games, challenges, and fitness exercises suitable for all ages, designed to build strength, teamwork, and confidence.

“We run our STRONG sessions for boys and girls each week after school, alongside our Dads & Kids fitness sessions.

“In addition, our sister CIC runs Sisters of Steel workshops and a monthly support group for women, focused on strength, wellbeing, and community connection.

“Teen sessions focus on strength, mobility, and mentoring, giving young people a safe environment to grow both physically and socially.

“We run weekly programmes that combine fitness, fun, and support for families and young people. Beyond exercise, we offer mentoring, empowerment, and mental health support to help participants build resilience and make positive choices.

Do you know about The Friends of Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club scheme?

If not, you’re missing out on a great way to watch quality amateur theatre for a bargain price!

Becoming a member of The Friends of Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club (FOSLTC) currently costs £30 for a season.

This entitles you to two tickets and a complementary programme for each of their two shows, which is a substantial saving over the box office prices and makes a fantastic gift for yourself, friends or family.

FOSLTC is a great way to encourage people into the theatre as well as rewarding their existing patrons with exceptional value ticket prices.

Their autumn show ‘Wait Until Dark’ is written by Frederick Knott. It is a thriller based around Susy Hendrix, a recently blinded housewife who unwittingly possesses a doll filled with an illicit substance.

Harry Roat, a brutal and sophisticated criminal, coerces two small-time thugs into helping him con Susy into giving up the doll.

A battle of wits ensues as Susy and the young girl launch a counter-plot upstairs against the thieves. The drama plays on the themes of darkness and light as Susy navigates through her sightless world, and the crooks signal each other through the Venetian blinds.

The pantomime for January 2027 is “Sleeping

Beauty”, directed by Bryn Marwood.

The Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club was established in 1949. It has over the years produced over 200 shows, involving over a thousand different enthusiasts who have contributed to the productions.

It began because of a drama course that was held in the town, which was attended by a number of enthusiasts. They had sessions on voice production, movement and improvisation.

They followed the same exercises as those at The Young Vic Theatre School - courtesy of Joan Plowright, who passed them on to her mother Margaret Plowright.

Margaret, or Daisy, was a founding member of the club and directed the first production, ‘Bright is the Waning Moon’.

Dame Joan Plowright was the President of the Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club until she sadly passed away on 16th January 2025.

Their current president is Sheridan Smith OBE. You can find out more about the club on their Facebook fan page: LittleTheatreClub or visit their website: littletheatreclub.co.uk

Confident Down the Aisle: How Slimming World Helped maddie Shine in her Wedding Dress

Slimming World helped Maddie Whiteley from Scunthorpe to shed five-and-a-half stone, boost her confidence, and say yes to her dream wedding dress, making her feel more beautiful than ever

The final straw for Maddie was in January 2025, she had just come back home from a Caribbean cruise where she got engaged to her amazing fiancé.

It was her mum’s birthday the week she got back into the UK and she had asked her if we could go to the bridal shop and try some wedding dresses on.

Of course in excitement Maddie said yes. She got to the bridal shop full of excitement and tried on what she thought were some of her dream wedding dresses, however what she saw looking back at her in the mirror felt like some kind of horror movie and this is when her Slimming World journey began.

Maddie’s health has improved leaps and bounds. She’s no longer out of breath whilst walking only short distances or going up a flight of stairs. Her mental health has also improved significantly and she has gone back to being the happy, bubbly and confident girl that she used to be. She no longer feels shame walking into the gym, putting a swimming costume on or going on a run.

Maddie told Scunthorpe Journal: “The biggest challenge I have faced since joining Slimming World has definitely been learning to avoid weekend binging. But Slimming World has taught me that you can make a delicious well-balanced meal that feels naughty. I highly recommend the street food book which is my all time favourite recipe book.”

Maddie and my fiancé have booked their dream wedding for August 2026, getting married on the same cruise ship they got engaged on.

Maddie told Scunthorpe Journal: “This week I walked back into the bridal shop, five-and-a-half stone lighter and I’ve never felt so beautiful. This time what I saw looking back at me in the mirror was someone I felt proud of, someone who put their mind to it and did it, someone who had confidence and someone who will get married and will feel like a princess.”
