Vintage in the Park 2026

This year the event is taking place on Sunday 12th July 12-4pm at West Park ,Goole

First organised in 2022, Vintage in the Park aims to celebrate the town’s heritage while encouraging the community to continue to support the much-loved park so future generations can still enjoy it.

This year sees music on the bandstand from the ever-popular Paddy O’Kaye Vintage DJ spinning the hits from the 40s, 50s, 60s.

Fresh from a storming set at Howden Vintage Day, Charlotte Porter and the High Rollers will also perform.

The Nags Shed Bar will be available as well as various vintage and community stalls.

All being well, look out for HEY Goole volunteers signposting and supporting throughout the event and West Park Community Cafe will be open too.

The organisers are also pleased to welcome back Goole Lions who are celebrating their 60th birthday. To mark the milestone, they are offering lots of family fun with sports activities including a tug of war competition, tin can alley, skittles and more.

With this event just before the main celebratory weekend for the bicentenary, this event is not to be missed!

Look out for displays from Goole Civic Society,

Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society, Goole Museum, Goole First World War Research Group and Boothferry Family and Local History Group to celebrate the big birthday, looking back over the town’s history through photos, artefacts, memorabilia and more.

Car park spaces are limited, so car sharing or walking up is strongly advised. This event is entirely run by volunteers.

FROM A POLICE PERSPECTIVE: On and off duty dedication – diverting young people away from ASB

This month Goole Policing Team talk to us about how across our force, dozens of their officers and staff volunteer their time to support local youth clubs and sports clubs, known to help direct young people toward positive activities, and particularly away from anti-social behaviour.

One of these is Safer Schools Coordinator PC Mike Caulfield, who is not only a vital part of the Community Safety Unit, but also volunteers at his local football club, as well as being a Scout Leader at an additional needs scout group too. The team caught up with Mike to find out more about why he volunteers: How long have you been in your current role?

I am fairly new, as the specific Safer Schools Coordinator role was brought into our force area in January this year. Previously to this, I spent most of my career in Neighbourhood Policing either as a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), or a Community Beat Manager sitting most recently within our Hull West team.

What does the role of a Safer Schools Coordinator entail?

As it is a new role its very much fluid, with changes constantly to our demand. The work we undertake is about engagement with schools across the area, linking in with multiple agencies both internally and externally. The ultimate aim is about building relationships with young people to encourage them to speak to the police about issues, education by delivering inputs and workshops to young people about various topics: antisocial behaviour (ASB), knife crime and online safety among other subjects, and responding to concerns around safeguarding within schools.

What successes have you seen from the work you’ve done?

It is difficult to see tangible results from the early intervention work and education with young people, because we often approach it thinking about the longterm and what we can do now to make them think about their actions before they decide what path they are going to go down.

I can say that over the years we’ve solved a lot of issues around ASB and further criminality with preventative and reactive policing.

We also collaborate with partner agencies and link in with any youth provisions available.

I can’t point to a specific person and say, “we changed that person’s life”, but I know the importance of the relationships we build, and being a positive role model, which I am sure will have had a significant impact on several young people in my time.

Hopefully some of them will pass on the knowledge to other kids, and we will continue to see a shift and change for the better.

Hook Armed Forces Weekend 2026

Hook Church and Hook800+ are proud to present Hook Armed Forces Weekend 2026 - a packed weekend of music, remembrance, entertainment and family fun celebrating the Armed Forces community

Following the success of last year’s hugely popular jousting spectacular, Hook800+, the fundraising and activities group behind Hook Church’s 800th anniversary celebrations, are bringing another large-scale community celebration to the field behind Hook Church, Hook, DN14 5PN.

Friday 26th June

1940s Swing Dance Night

Friday evening begins with a vintage 1940s Swing Dance Night at Hook Church, with entertainment from vintage DJ Paddy O’Kaye.

Guests can enjoy swing music, dancing, a fully licensed bar and afternoon tea-style supper in a fun and nostalgic wartime atmosphere.

1940s dress is encouraged, with a vintage hairdresser also available (advance booking required).

Saturday 27th June Armed Forces Day

Saturday is completely FREE to attend and will feature a full day of entertainment and activities for all ages.

Food and drink vendors include Time and Plaice, Jess’s Classic Catering, This Little Piggy, Doubtfires, Saddle and Glass and Cophee.

Visitors can also explore a variety of charity, craft and military-themed stalls including Dementia UK, Royal British Legion, Army Cadets, RAF Cadets, Police Cadets, RSPB, Chris Laidler’s World War 1 display and Mike Howard Military Memorabilia.

Saturday evening concludes with a special performance from the Dishforth Military Wives Choir, with a fully licensed bar available throughout the evening.

Sunday 28th June

The weekend concludes with a reverence service “Lives on the Line - A Service of Support” at Hook Church.

A quick-buy property firm is accusing agents and sellers of pricing homes for sale at above market value.

House Buyer Bureau, citing its own internal data alongside wider average price information, claims one of the largest gaps in perceived value is Yorkshire and the Humber (+£33,459).

Sellers are still coming to market with expectations that sit above where buyers are willing to transact, which is creating

a clear disconnect between pricing and demand.

When pricing isn’t aligned with market reality, it reduces buyer interest, slows negotiations, and increases the likelihood of delays and even fall throughs.

Goole’s bicentenary community celebrations

As Goole moves towards it 200th birthday in July, plans are coming together for a celebration of the town’s community and heritage.

Work is currently taking place on a children’s history book which will be gifted to all local primary schools in July, followed by a public exhibition of the specially commissioned art work at the Junction.

During July there will be an opportunity to see Goole’s Bicentenary Time exhibition at the Junction, alongside a display on the founding of Goole.

Plans are also being made for a pop-up heritage shop where you’ll be able to purchase 2026 merchandise and see exhibitions of Goole memorabilia.

During the bicentenary weekend of the 17th20th July there’ll be opportunities to take part in competitions, join a special heritage tour, listen to music at the Riverside Gardens, and the Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society are busy planning a special flotilla through Goole Docks and canal tours.

Moving on to later in the year, Goole Hobbies

Exhibition will be returning in September, Goole & District Lions will be launching a walking route, due to popular demand Goole on Film will get a second screening on Sunday 18th October and in November there will be a special Civic Awards.
