Hello and welcome to your August edition of Our Goole.

School’s out! The sun is shining and summer is well under way. We hope whatever you have planned, you have a brilliant time. Here at Our Goole we have been working hard to bring you the best business deals and feel-good stories.

This month we cover the Goole Town Tigers JFC tournament where 130 junior football teams competed across two action-packed days. They all had a chance to claim the Europa League runners-up trophy or the Champions League winners’ trophy, and to finish on the podium beside their teammates.

We also promote Expressions Cheerleading Academy (ECA) - a club based in Goole, providing athletes of all ages and abilities with the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive through the sport of cheerleading.

Goole Town Tigers JFC proud weekend of football

Across one June weekend, 130 junior football teams competed across two action-packed days for a chance to claim the Europa League runners-up trophy or the Champions League winners’ trophy, and to finish on the podium beside their teammates

Competing in the tournament were teams ranging from U7s to U15s from across the region, including four all-inclusive girls’ age groups and not forgetting their youngest teams - U6s, who enjoyed a football funday with every player receiving a participation medal.

Goole Town Tigers JFC was established in 2000 and has grown significantly over the years. They currently have 32 teams ranging from U6 to U16 which includes five all-inclusive girls’ teams plus the

Wildcats, which is training only for girls wanting to start playing football.

The club is run entirely by volunteers chaired by Paul Challenger who has been part of the club since the start.

The club brings the community together in various ways as they rely solely on volunteers, it encourages parents to help out to help run their child’s team. In total they have over 400 children registered to the club, and around 100 volunteers which includes team

managers, assistant managers, parent helpers and committee members.

The club relies heavily on local sponsorship which helps to purchase match kits, training kits, and outerwear each season for individual teams. The sponsorship also assists when organising such a large event like the tournament. This year the pitches were sponsored by local businesses which gave these companies great advertisement and also brought in extra revenue for the club.

FROM A POLICE PERSPECTIVE: Ensuring crime never pays

This month Goole Police talks to us about how when someone is convicted of a crime, many people may believe the investigation ends there. In reality, for the Asset Recovery Investigation Unit, their work is often just beginning.

Working across all types of criminality, from serious and organised crime to fraud and other offences where criminals profit financially, this specialist team uses powers under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) to ensure offenders cannot continue to benefit from money or assets gained through crime.

The unit’s work is about more than recovering cash. Financial investigators gather intelligence, trace hidden assets, restrain property before it can be sold or transferred, support investigations and ultimately seek confiscation orders through the courts to strip offenders of their ill-gotten gains.

This financial year alone, the team has secured the forfeiture of almost £166,000 in criminal cash, alongside approximately £199,000 held in bank accounts linked to criminal activity.

The courts also assess two important figures during confiscation proceedings. The first being the ‘benefit figure’, which is an assessment of how much an offender is deemed to have benefitted financially from their criminal conduct. This does not necessarily mean they still possess that amount, but it reflects the value of their criminal gains.

The second is the ‘available assets figure’, which is the value of money, property or possessions that investigators have identified can realistically be recovered to repay that amount. Those assets can include cash, money in bank accounts, vehicles, land, property, cryptocurrency, luxury jewellery, designer clothing and other high value items.

So far this financial year, the Asset Recovery Investigation Team has identified criminal benefit totalling approximately £660,000, with around £456,000 in available assets identified to satisfy confiscation orders.

Money recovered through Proceeds of Crime (POCA) orders is returned to the Home Office, with a proportion reinvested back into policing through the Asset Recovery Incentivisation Scheme, helping fund future work to tackle crime and protect communities.

UKCA Summer Nationals

The club travelled to the UK Cheerleading Association (UKCA) Summer Cheer & Dance Championships 2026 at the Manchester Velodrome on Saturday 27th June, where 42 athletes, aged between five and 17, proudly represented the club in its annual competition.

Their athletes did them incredibly proud with their Topcats (over 13s) bringing home first place out of three teams, their Wildcats (under 13s) secured an amazing 3rd place out of seven teams, and their Bobcats (under 9s) achieving a fantastic fourth place out of nine teams.

These results marked the most successful competition in Expressions Cheerleading Academy’s history.

Housing market update

Stock levels remain elevated, with supply of newly listed properties 2.7% higher this year to date than in 2025.

All price bands have experienced year-on-year supply growth with the up-to-£200,000 price band leading growth, with volumes increasing 4.1%.

Demand has reduced in all UK regions year on year, with Northern Ireland down 20.8% year on year and Inner London down 10.4%.
