Organ Masterworks Philip Scriven performs on the Mander Organ in Cranleigh School Chapel Cranleigh School's Organist in Residence continues his popular series of Tuesday Lunchtime Recitals this year with nine programmes featuring cornerstone masterpieces of the repertory. Each recital will also include three shorter pieces by the great French organist and composer, Louis Vierne, taken from his "24 Pièces en style libre" and "Pièces de Fantaisie".

FREE teatime concerts at Cranleigh Prep School - suitable for younger audiences Aaron Monteverde's piano workshop The Gibraltan-born pianist Aaron Monteverde is one of the hottest new talents in the piano world, renowned for his dazzling technique and fiery mediterranean spirit in perfomance. He presents his entertaining workshop suitable for all but extremely useful for budding young musicians. Aaron will be performing an evening recital at Cranleigh School on Wednesday 26th November.

Simply Blue jazz ensemble ‘SIMPLY BLUE’ is comprised of pupils from Cranleigh School under the guidance of saxophone tutor John Sandford. Noah Frett (trumpet and piano), Tom Cooper (alto saxophone), George Wilkinson (piano and electric guitar), Harrison White (double and electric bass), Cameron Scheide (drums) and vocalist Zoë Dixon perform an eclectic mix of jazz standards, latin and funky rhythms and tasteful ballads guaranteed to get young toes tapping.

Bizet: Entr'acte from 'Carmen' Massenet: Méditation from ’Thaïs’ Saint-Saëns: Fantaisie, op. 124 Schubert: Impromptu No. 3 Ibert: Two Interludes Internationally renowned harpist, Ieuan Jones, a professor at the Royal College of Music, joins Ruth Williams and Kevin Weaver for a programme of works for harp, flute and violin in various combinations. The programme is built around the interplay between two stylistic genres characteristic of writing for this ensemble. ’Rhapsodie’, ’Fantaisie’, and ’Impromptu’ are pieces born of a spontaneous and almost improvisatory expressive freedom. These works are counterbalanced by ’Entr’acte’, ’Méditation’ and ’Two Interludes’: musical moments of contemplative repose.

Ghosts and Shadows Roger Montgomery (horn) Susanne Stanzeleit (violin) Richard Saxel (piano) Beethoven: Horn Sonata, Op.17 Poulenc: Violin Sonata, Op.119 Chopin: Nocturne in C minor, Op. post. Brahms: Horn Trio, Op.40 Beethoven’s youthful Horn Sonata was composed in 1800, and written for Giovanni Punto, a horn player who was more famous than Beethoven at the time. Whilst the performer’s legacy has been lost to history, Beethoven’s work has stood the test of time. Poulenc’s Sonata for Violin and Piano was published in 1944, and is dedicated to the memory of the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca (1899-1936), who was executed for his liberal views during the Spanish Civil War. Chopin’s beautiful Nocturne in C minor was published posthumously, due to the fact that the composer expressly forbade its performance, suggesting that any performer who disobeyed would be haunted by his ghost! The performance culminates in Brahms’ elegiac masterpiece of 1865 (the same year as Cranleigh School’s foundation), composed as a wordless requiem for his mother.

Aaron Monteverde (piano) The Gibraltan-born pianist Aaron Monteverde has recently burst onto the UK recital scene with a series of fresh and orginal programmes, dazzling audiences with a virant, passionate, Flamenco-inspired style that is very much his own. His programme includes Spanish and Latin American music by Rodrigo, de Falla, Campuzano and Perez Cardoso as well as original compositions.

She has performed at all the world’s great festivals in over forty countries. Many composers have written for her, inspired by her phenomenal technique and ability to bring out the extraordinary colours of the organ. Jennifer is recognised as the world authority on the organ works of Olivier Messiaen, with whom she worked extensively. We are honoured to welcome her to perform on the Mander Organ as one of the highlights of this year's series.

VENUES All concerts take place at Cranleigh School or Cranleigh Preparatory School. The Speech Hall is situated at the left-hand end of the main School buildings; the Chapel is to the right. The Merriman Music School is situated directly behind the Chapel and the Emms Centre beyond that. Cranleigh Prep School Chapel is on the Prep School campus directly opposite the Senior School main entrance. There is ample parking and wheelchair access at all venues.
SEASON TICKETS For the many who are regular supporters, season tickets for the entire series are superb value at ÂŁ100 (ÂŁ75 concessions). This represents a saving of over 25% on individual ticket prices.

'Praise' is the strong thematic link between these two dynamic twentieth-century works for large chorus and orchestra, this year's collaboration between the musical forces of the School and Cranleigh Choral Society. Poulenc's evocative setting of the Gloria text has become a favourite choral work since its premiere in 1961. It is typical of the composer's style; in turn dramatic, quirky and powerfully sensuous. A perfect complement is John Rutter's popular 1990 setting of Mary's hymn of praise, following Gabriel's annunciation of the birth of Christ. The composer was inspired by "jubilant celebrations of feasts of the Virgin Mary in Hispanic cultures" and conceived the work as a bright Latin-flavoured joyful fiesta bursting with tunefulness and colour.

This special concert features the winning performances. Audiences at this annual event are always stunned by the extremely high standards of musicianship on display. Now it's time once again to congratulate and celebrate the success of this year's winners in an evening of high quality music-making from these highly talented youngsters. Bergamasca Baroque Ensemble Music by Vivaldi, Telemann, Kapsberger, Montalbano, d'Hervelois, Blavet and Monteclair.
Bergamasca brings together three experts in the field of early music in a new collaboration. Katriina Boosey performs on recorders of all shapes and sizes but the group is unique in using both string and wind continuo instruments. Frances Eustace and Lynda Sayce have the versatility to perform on theorbo, lute, dulcian, baroque flute, viola da gamba and baroque bassoon. This variety of instruments creates a different sound world for each work and lends a fascinating insight into how the great baroque masters would have conceived and heard their work.
