CONCERT SERIES 2016/2017
VENUES All concerts take place at Cranleigh School or Cranleigh Preparatory School. The Speech Hall is situated at the left-hand end of the main School buildings; the Chapel is to the right. The Merriman Music School is situated directly behind the Chapel and the Emms Centre beyond that. Cranleigh Prep School Chapel is on the Prep School campus directly opposite the Senior School main entrance. There is ample parking and wheelchair access at all venues.
SEASON TICKETS For the many who are regular supporters, season tickets for the entire series are superb value at ÂŁ95 (ÂŁ75 concessions). This represents a very significant saving on individual ticket prices.
BOOKING INFORMATION Concessionary rates apply to senior citizens, children (who are not pupils of Cranleigh School or Cranleigh Prep School) and students in full-time education. Tickets for all events can now be purchased online at www.cranleigh.org/tickets. Subject to availability, tickets may be purchased on the door at each event, but advance booking is recommended. The booking form (centre pages) can also be used, but only if accompanied by a cheque made payable to 'Cranleigh School' and a stamped, addressed envelope to:

The young members of the Inner City Brass quintet are among the hottest properties in the world of brass performance - dazzling performers who play in some of the top UK and international orchestras, including the Bournemouth Symphony, the BBC Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic, the John Wilson Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic. Together they present a powerful insight into the exciting sonorities of music for brass with a hugely varied programme of music in the wonderful Chapel acoustic.

American DReAMS This month sees the 58th US Presidential Elections. Whatever the outcome, the Concert Series will be marking the occasion in style with a concert celebrating all things American. organ improvisation A favourite of the 2013-14 Concert Series was David Briggs's remarkable organ improvisations to "The Phantom of the Opera". Once again, Cranleigh's beautiful Gothic chapel is the perfect setting for a screening of another great silent classic, the 1923 film of Victor Hugo's heart-rending tale of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, starring Lon Cheney as the tortured Quasimodo. Alexander Mason is a concert organist and improviser 'par excellence'. He won the Grand Prix for improvisation at the André Marchal Organ Competition in Biarritz and has performed as a recitalist throughout the UK, Ireland, Norway and Lebanon. A regular broadcater on Radio 3, Alexander has recorded for the BBC's "The Vicar of Dibley" and Channel 4's "Howard Goodall's Organ Works".

The bandoneon, similar to a concertina, is an essential ingredient in the tango music of Latin America. The Santiago Quartet, currently touring the UK with César Olguin, one of the instrument's most celebrated and virtuosic exponents, present a unique and fascinating fusion of musical styles and cultures.

The Winners of the Cranleigh Music Competitions In events throughout the year, Cranleigh musicians compete in the instrumental and vocal categories of the Helen Wareham and Prep School House Music Competitions. This special concert features the winning performances. Audiences at this annual event are always stunned by the extremely high standards of musicianship on display. Now it's time once again to celebrate the success of this year's winners in an evening of high quality music-making from these highly talented youngsters. Ticket price includes champagne and canapés after the concert. (Parents of pupils invited to perform receive two complimentary tickets.) This is a black tie event.

Tuesday Lunchtime Recitals given throughout the season by Cranleigh School's superb Organist in Residence have become a traditional part of the musical life of the School. This season Philip returns to the theme of complete surveys of musical works of great masters of the instrument, including for the first time the sonatas of Alexandre Guilmant, a contemporary of CĂŠsar Franck. Each recital will also include a variety of other popular works.

with the choirs of Cranleigh School The young a cappella ensemble Apollo5 is the hottest new British vocal ensemble around. Praised for its engaging and entertaining performances, its repertoire includes retro jazz, pop and classical arrangements. The group’s performances in London have included St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Royal Albert Hall, the Troxy, Café de Paris and the Houses of Parliament. UK festivals include The City of London Festival, The London A Cappella Festival, the Petworth Festival and the Aldeburgh High Tide Festival. The five outstanding vocalists also perform internationally, most recently touring the USA before singing at the Festival La Folle Journée, France. Apollo5 has broadcast live on Resonance FM, BBC Radio 2 and Classic FM. The group has recently worked in partnership with The Sixteen, The National Gallery and St Martin-in-the-Fields, presenting an exciting new festival, ‘Sounds Sublime’.
We are delighted that the choirs of Cranleigh School will be working with Apollo5 and have been invited to join them in performance.
