Craig Kent, MD, has devoted his 30-year professional journey to health system leadership, consistently working to improve patient access, enhance care quality, and provide treatment to those with complex medical needs. Throughout his career, he has consistently combined clinical expertise, academic leadership, and research experience to support the growth of the institutions he has served and the individuals within them. His dedication to education and leadership has also been evident through his national roles, which focus on training future healthcare professionals. Dr. Craig Kent has held several key leadership roles throughout his career. He served as Division Chief in Vascular Surgery at both Columbia University and Cornell University, where he also led the Vascular Service line for NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Later, he became Chair of the Department of Surgery at The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. His responsibilities expanded at Ohio State University, where he served as Dean of the College of Medicine, Vice President for Health Sciences, and Co-Leader of the Health System. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President of Health Affairs and CEO of the University of Virginia Health System. His leadership and academic work have been recognized with his induction into the National Academy of Medicine. In addition, he has served as President of the Society for Vascular Surgery, President of the Society of Surgical Chairs, and Chair of the American Board of Surgery, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to national healthcare leadership. The National Institutes of Health has supported Dr. Kent’s research career for more than 30 years. He has chaired the NIH’s Surgery and Bioengineering study section and has served on other key panels. His research interests include the molecular basis of vascular disease and the study of healthcare outcomes. He has authored 360 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to 65 books and book chapters.
