Cape Peninsula University of Technology Call for Applications Postdoctoral Fellowship The Centre for Sport Business and Technology Research, located in the Department of Sport Management in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), invites applications for one postdoctoral fellowship commencing as soon as possible in 2026 or 2027. The successful candidate will investigate the perceptual and biomechanical mechanisms underpinning visual anticipation in cricket, using video analysis and immersive digital technologies to develop training tools. Candidates with expertise in biomechanics, motor learning, performance analysis, sport science or artificial intelligence are encouraged to apply. Fellowship Details • • • •
Duration: Twelve (12) months, subject to funding availability and institutional approval. Stipend: R250 000 for the 12-month period. The stipend is intended to be treated as a tax-exempt bursary, subject to applicable South African tax legislation. Location: Centre for Sport Business and Technology Research, Newlands Satellite Campus (The Wicket Building, Newlands Cricket Ground), Cape Town. Starting date: As soon as possible in 2026 or 2027.

The applicant must have obtained their doctoral degree within the last five years at the time of appointment, in line with the CPUT Postdoctoral Fellowship Policy. The fellowship is subject to institutional approval processes. Fellows are expected to devote their working time to the fellowship and may not hold concurrent paid full-time employment. Applicants must demonstrate relevant research expertise in sport and exercise science, biomechanics, motor learning, performance analysis, artificial intelligence or a closely related field. Please note: This is a full-time postdoctoral fellowship and does not constitute employment at CPUT.
Research Focus Areas We welcome applications from candidates with demonstrated knowledge and research expertise in one or more of the following areas: • •
Sport biomechanics and perceptual-cognitive skill acquisition: visual anticipation, motor control, movement analysis, performance analysis, and skill acquisition in sport. Artificial intelligence and digital sport technologies: computer vision, machine learning, kinematic modelling, human-computer interaction, virtual/augmented reality, and the development of AI-enabled training systems.
