DIGITAL NOW, ELECTRIC NEXT

COMMERCIAL PARTNERSHIPS PORTFOLIO DIRECTOR - HEAVY INDUSTRY NOMAN ASLAM

You’ve been reading it here for several years now: Digitalisation and zero-emission are the future of construction equipment. But what sounded for long like a statutory warning in the Middle East as our region went about its job-sites under the pretence that oil would never run out – nor its price become economically unviable – and analogue was good enough, is finally a reality. This is in no small part due to global pressure, which is dragging a reluctant Middle East kicking and screaming into the brave new world of connected job-sites and battery-electric or hydrogen machines. There is probably no manufacturer that does not sell a machine these days in the Middle East without a suite of digital and connectivity features. And some of the bigger global names are also in the process of revamping their model line-ups to replace all ICE-powered models with modern eco-friendly ones. The day is not too far off when equipment users in the Middle East will not be able to buy ICE models new, simply because there may not be any being manufactured and sold. Instead, they would have to scour the used markets and auction sites for the remaining units with traditional powertrains, and use them until their lifecycle runs out. When digitalisation made its appearance on these shores, Middle Eastern buyers pushed back citing data security and right to privacy as businesses. This obstacle has now been cleared and users have not only seen how securely the manufacturers and dealers have handled their job-site and machine data, but also experienced the increase in economy, convenience, unit availability and uptime that machine monitoring and connected job-sites have brought about. Regional sales of equipment without a digital suite is now a thing of the past.

Extending that to emissions, some manufacturers are leading a similar charge in alternative power sources for machinery. Volvo CE is chief among them. The company, already at the helm of the global transformation of the equipment industry into a green enterprise, could well be the first in our region as well to generate acceptance for its electric machines. In CMME’s interview with Hannah Ihnatovich, Volvo CE’s new head of international sales, it emerged that much of the brand’s model line-up will soon either transition to electric or offer an electric or hydrogen option, inlcuding in the Middle East. To paraphrase Henry Ford, you can have a Volvo in any power configuration you’d like, as long as it’s green. Volvo has already demonstrated its electric loaders and diggers in the Middle East to much acclaim from end-users, and electrification is being extended in its range to its popular articulated dump truck. Speaking of range, elsewhere in this issue, we delve into how CASE is a one-stop shop for a wide range of earthmovers that are built with the Middle East’s conditions in mind. At CMME, we are sure the day is not far when these machines too will meet the twin challenges of geography and ecology, even in the Middle East.

Caterpillar has exceeded $20 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time, recording the milestone in the second quarter of 2026 across its global customer base. The company posted revenue of $20.5 billion for Q2 2026, representing a 24% year-on-year rise from the $16.6 billion recorded in the same period of 2025. Caterpillar attributed the increase primarily to a $3.1 billion improvement in sales volume, alongside favourable price realisation worth $595 million. Operating profit margin also strengthened, reaching 20.9% in Q2 2026, compared with 17.6% during the corresponding quarter last year. Sales increased across all three of Caterpillar’s main segments: power & energy, construction industries and resource industries. Construction industries delivered the strongest growth, with sales rising 35% year on year to more than $8.3 billion. Power & energy sales increased 17% to $8.2 billion, while resource industries grew 20% to $4.6 billion. Profits followed the same upward trend. Construction industries profit climbed 57% to more than $1.9 billion, while power & energy increased 30% to $2 billion. Resource industries profit rose 23% to $693 million. North America remained the largest contributor to Caterpillar’s construction industries sales. Revenue from the region rose 50% to almost $5.1 billion. Latin America increased 25% to $676 million, while Europe, Africa and the Middle East (EAME) grew 23% to almost $1.5 billion. Asia/Pacific recorded more modest growth of 3%, reaching $1.1 billion. Chairman and CEO Joe Creed said, “This milestone underscores both the essential work our customers do every day and the dedication of Caterpillar employees worldwide.”

DIGITALISATION, SUSTAINABILITY, INFRASTRUCTURE

AS THE MIDDLE EAST ACCELERATES INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT AND SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION, CMME’S RAZ ISLAM SITS DOWN WITH VOLVO CE’S HANNA IHNATOVICH TO DISCUSS GROWTH DRIVERS, CHALLENGES OF ELECTRIFICATION, AND THE DIGITAL FUTURE OF EQUIPMENT

15

Hanna Ihnatovich, Volvo CE’s new Head of Sales Region International, believes in building strong teams, fostering trust and open dialogue, and developing strong dealer partnerships.

W

ith Saudi Arabia’s mega-projects and the UAE’s growing focus on innovation and sustainability reshaping the regional construction landscape, Volvo Construction Equipment is positioning itself for longterm growth through electrification, connected technologies, financing solutions and strong dealer partnerships. At Volvo Days 2026, Volvo CE’s annual international media and customer outreach event held at its base in Eskilstuna, Sweden, CMME spoke exclusively with Hanna Ihnatovich, Head of Sales Region International, about the trends, opportunities and challenges shaping the next decade of construction equipment. Having officially assumed the role of Head of Sales Region International in May 2026, Ihnatovich is responsible for a diverse portfolio of markets spanning multiple continents, including the Middle East. With more than a decade of experience at Volvo CE across sales, pricing, planning, and finance, she brings a comprehensive understanding of both the commercial and operational drivers shaping the industry. During Volvo Days this year, Ihnatovich emphasised to CMME the company’s priorities across Saudi Arabia and the UAE, the realities of sustainability adoption in the region, the growing role of digital services and connected job-sites, and how Volvo CE is helping customers navigate an increasingly complex business environment. While electrification and AI continue to dominate industry headlines, Ihnatovich believes the Middle East remains a market where education, customer support, financing solutions, and strong dealer partnerships will ultimately determine the pace of adoption. She also highlights digitalisation as the single most transformative force set to reshape the construction equipment industry over the next decade. Volvo CE has identified key global focus sectors. What are the biggest priorities for the Middle East market? Globally, our strategic focus areas are construction, mining and quarrying and aggregates; in the Middle East, our two largest markets are Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The region is heavily driven by infrastructure investment, mega-projects, and quarrying activity. Infrastructure remains the primary driver of construction activity and therefore our biggest focus. Our strategy is centred on ensuring we have the right products for these applications while working closely with our dealer partner, AlFuttaim FAMCO, to support customers and secure opportunities across major projects.

Where do you see the biggest growth opportunities in the region? Saudi Arabia and the UAE are unquestionably our priority markets. These are the countries where we see the strongest opportunities for growth. Mining is becoming increasingly important, particularly in the UAE, where Volvo CE already has a strong position with products such as our articulated haulers. We see significant potential there moving forward. Sustainability means different things in different markets. How do Volvo CE’s sustainability ambitions translate to the Middle East? The UAE is currently leading the sustainability agenda in the region and is the market where we see the most progress. However, sustainability is still being driven by specific customers rather than representing a broad market trend. Typically, we are working with customers who either have decarbonisation targets and loweremission goals, or customers who can clearly see the operational and total cost of ownership benefits that sustainable technologies can deliver. Historically the region has enjoyed relatively low diesel prices which contrasts with markets like Europe creating a further challenge for adoption. We currently have several pilot and demonstration machines operating with customers in the region. We believe the UAE will move faster than other markets, but for now adoption remains limited to a relatively small group of customers. Are customers actively requesting lower-emission equipment today? Not really. At this stage, Volvo is driving much of the conversation. Customer demand remains limited, so there is still significant work to be done in demonstrating the value and benefits of these technologies. It’s very much at the beginning of the journey. Volvo CE has been leading the development of electric construction equipment. Which technologies excite you most, and how do you see adoption progressing in the Middle East? Today, battery-electric equipment is our primary focus, with grid-connected solutions also becoming increasingly important. We believe both technologies will play a significant role for many years, although other technologies will emerge over time. Earlier generations of electric machines faced challenges in hotter climates, particularly with compact equipment. However, advancements in battery technology and machine design have largely overcome these issues. Markets such as Australia provide a good benchmark because of similar climate conditions, and customer feedback there has been very positive.

16

INTERVIEW AUGUS T 2026

our ability to scale these solutions locally depends on them. Ultimately, connected services create stronger long-term customer relationships while improving resilience for both customers and dealers. Is education currently the biggest barrier to adoption? Absolutely. There is education required for customers, but also for dealers and distributors. The knowledge exists within Volvo CE, and we are committed to sharing it, but successful deployment depends on local capability. Many customers in the region still focus primarily on purchase price. What we need to do is shift the conversation towards value-based selling and total cost of ownership. That transition takes time, but once customers experience the benefits, adoption accelerates. Articulated haulers are among the most demanding machines to electrify. What developments are you seeing? The pace of development has been faster than many expected. Volvo CE now has electric articulated haulers entering the market, and customer interest is growing. While we are not yet seeing significant demand from the Middle East, interest is already emerging in markets such as South Africa and New Zealand. I expect we will begin hearing similar requests from customers in the Middle East soon. For articulated haulers specifically, the UAE represents a particularly promising market, especially as sustainability ambitions continue to grow. What is Volvo CE doing to encourage adoption of electric equipment in the Middle East region? We are actively running demonstrations with customers in the UAE. One example is the Volvo L120 Electric wheel loader, which is currently being demonstrated across several customer sites. The interest is there, but adoption naturally takes time. Education and practical experience remain essential parts of the process.

utilisation, increases uptime, reduces downtime, enhances safety, and supports better decision-making. When I visit certain countries in Middle East, I feel customers need education on the practical benefits of connected services. The first challenge is identifying the right customers and demonstrating clear value. The second challenge is ensuring our dealers fully understand and embrace these technologies, because they are our interface with the customer and

Volvo CE views the UAE as a promising market for its articulated haulers, especially the new electric ones, as sustainability ambitions grow in the country.

“Digitalisation will transform how equipment Connected job-sites, AI and automation are becoming major industry themes. is managed, how How do you see these technologies changing fleet management? projects are executed, They will fundamentally change how contractors operate. The technology and how customers itself is important, but the real challenge is helping customers understand the create value” value it delivers. Data alone is not enough. Customers need to see how it improves

The Middle East continues to face economic and geopolitical uncertainty. How is Volvo CE supporting customers through these challenging times? Our approach is straightforward: focus on what we can control. That means staying close to customers, ensuring machine and parts availability, maintaining service support, and helping manage logistics challenges when disruptions occur. Safety

17 our future growth and are central pillars of our long-term strategy. You officially took over as Head of Sales Region International in May. What experiences have shaped your leadership approach? I joined Volvo CE in 2012 and have spent my entire career within the sales organisation, holding roles across sales, volume planning, pricing, S&OP, and most recently finance for the region. Throughout my career, I have focused on understanding the entire value chain and the full picture of the business. My experience in finance has given me a strong understanding of profitability and business performance. My leadership philosophy centres around building strong teams, fostering trust, maintaining open dialogue, and developing strong partnerships with our dealer network. Transparency and alignment are essential to our success in the long term.

remains our priority, but our commitment to supporting customers and maintaining business continuity never changes. How important is financing in supporting customers during uncertain periods? Financing is one of our most important business enablers. The share of financed deals in the Middle East has grown significantly, and our ability to offer competitive financing solutions plays a major role in helping customers invest with confidence. We work closely with our trade finance teams and partners, including Swedish Export Credit (SEK) support and private local insurers, to provide attractive financing packages for Volvo machines. In many cases, financing becomes a key differentiator and an important part of the overall customer offering. How important are aftermarket services and digital support to Volvo CE’s regional strategy? They are critical. From a company perspective, services provide long-term profitability and resilience against market fluctuations. For customers, strong aftermarket support is essential for keeping operations running efficiently. Having parts availability, service capability, and local dealer support are

Volvo believes in demonstrating its machines, as it did at Volvo Days this year, and as it is doing in the UAE, where the L120 Electric wheel loader is on trial across several customer job-sites.

the fundamentals. This is also where Volvo CE differentiates itself from some of the growing competition in the market. Our dealer network delivers a complete support ecosystem that goes far beyond the machine itself. What customer trends are you watching most closely today? Sustainability adoption and willingness to invest in digital services. Those are the two areas that will have the biggest impact on

If you had to identify one trend that will have the greatest impact on the construction equipment industry over the next decade, what would it be? Digitalisation. Whether through AI, connectivity, automation, or data-driven decision-making, digitalisation will be the defining trend for our industry. It will transform how equipment is managed, how projects are executed, and how customers create value. Staying relevant in this space and keeping pace with innovation will be essential for everyone in the industry.

A CASE FOR ALL CASES

CASE CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT IS BUILDING ITS PROPOSITION IN THE MIDDLE EAST AROUND MACHINES THAT ARE DESIGNED AND ENGINEERED FOR THE HEAT, TERRAIN AND ROUGH DEMANDS OF THE REGION, BAKED UP BY DEPENDABLE SUPPORT

A

t the edge of a jobsite, where heat shimmers above unfinished roads and dust settles on everything, machines have little room for weakness. For CASE, the answer is simple: build machines for the conditions, then build the support around them. The Middle East construction equipment market is moving with considerable momentum, and CASE Construction Equipment sees the opportunity through the practical demands of the work itself. Mega infrastructure initiatives, highway expansions, utility modernisation and urban development are creating a requirement for equipment that can work hard, stay productive and keep operating costs under control. For CASE, that makes reliability and efficiency two sides of the same proposition. A senior product specialist from the company explains: “At CASE, we don’t just manufacture machinery - we deliver complete, site-ready solutions tailored to the GCC and wider Middle East.” Built for the heat Recognising that this region presents some of the world’s most extreme operational

environments, CASE engineers machines specifically built for harsh desert heat and heavy sandy and rocky terrain, he adds. “This is highlighted by our highperformance tropical cooling packages and air-conditioned operator cabins across key lines, including our newly introduced skid-steer loaders in this region and soil compactors. While core utility equipment like backhoe loaders, skid-steers, and soil compactors form the backbone of regional construction, our broader portfolio, comprising including heavy excavators, wheel loaders, dozers, and graders, provides contractors with a true end-to-end fleet solution,” he says. “Backed by an established network of reputable regional dealers, CASE ensures total peace of mind through 24/7 technical support, high-availability genuine parts, and dedicated mobile workshops equipped to serve the most remote job-sites,” sums up the product specialist, before delving into each of these aspects in depth. Contractors require machines that maximise uptime and maintain fuel efficiency in extreme conditions. That proposition is supported by what CASE describes as a combination of rugged reliability, engineering adapted to regional conditions, low total cost of ownership and an aftersales network intended to keep machines working when project schedules leave little room for downtime.

ground conditions.

The challenge is particularly acute in an environment where temperatures can climb to levels that test both machine and operator. CASE says its Super Tropical cooling package is designed to manage temperatures of up to 50°C across its range. Cooling, however, is only part of the equation. The operator sits at the centre of the machine, and the company says it has, therefore, concentrated on the cabin as well. Better routing of systems and additional cab insulation are intended to help maintain a cooler working environment in harsh conditions, the CASE product specialist points out. That attention to operating conditions also runs through CASE’s wider product offering. The company identifies its backhoe loaders, skid-steer loaders and soil compactors as core products for the

region. Their importance, CASE argues, is less about any single application than the nature of construction itself. The Middle East is described by the company as primarily a civil infrastructure and urban expansion market, with residential communities, transport networks and public utilities driving activity. Those projects require earthmoving, trenching, site preparation and compaction, making versatile utility equipment fundamental to getting work done. The backhoe loader is perhaps the clearest expression of that versatility. According to CASE, its backhoe loaders are multi tool workhorses for trenching, pipelaying, backfilling and municipal works. The skid-steers bring similar flexibility in a more compact package, suited to tight job-sites, road maintenance, material handling and site clean-up. The soil

One machine, many jobs Versatility becomes particularly important when contractors are balancing productivity against fuel consumption and the cost of owning several machines. CASE’s answer is to make utility machines capable of doing much more than their basic designation might suggest. “Both skid-steer and backhoe loaders are utility machines,” says the CASE product specialist. “They are like an army pocketknife with a massive amount of possible factory options and hundreds of tool attachments.” That comparison captures the company’s proposition neatly. Breakers, augers, sweepers and trenchers can turn one machine into a carrier for a wide range of tasks. Rather than assigning a dedicated machine to every individual operation, contractors can configure equipment around the job and change its role as requirements shift. The wider CASE range reinforces that argument. The 821F and 1021F wheel loaders, for example, extend the portfolio into material handling and larger earthmoving duties. The 821F uses a 230 horsepower FPT engine and offers bucket capacities of around 3.0 to 3.4[BZ2.1] cubic metres, while the 1021F moves up to 320 horsepower and 4.2 to 4.4 cubic metre buckets. CASE also highlights cooling arrangements designed to deal with dusty operating environments. At the excavator end, the CX220C LC HD brings a heavy duty 22-tonne platform to applications where strength and endurance matter. Its 159 horsepower FPT engine, heavy duty upper structure and tropical cooling package rated for 50°C make it particularly relevant to the conditions CASE is discussing. The same philosophy applies to machines used for road formation and bulk earthmoving. CASE’s 885B motor grader combines front articulation with an A frame drawbar and load sensing hydraulics, while the 2050M dozer is designed for large cuts and mass earthmoving, with machine control options adding precision to heavy work. For CASE, however, productivity cannot be separated from ownership costs. Customers are not simply buying iron; they are buying a working relationship between manufacturer, dealer and machine. And that

21 relationship has to survive long operating hours, servicing requirements and the occasional breakdown. Support is key According to CASE, customers are looking for a full package, “which you could think of as a marriage”. The company observes that customers want “full commitment to product quality: the brand; and strong aftersales service: the dealer”. That emphasis on partnership is central to the company’s approach to total cost of ownership. CASE acknowledges that even the best machine will eventually require maintenance or repair. The commercial objective, therefore, is not to pretend downtime can be eliminated, but to minimise its impact when it occurs. Simple and accessible maintenance points form part of that response, alongside fuel efficient engine configurations. Dealer support is the other half. CASE says its regional network provides technical assistance, parts support and emergency response, with mobile workshop units able to reach machines on remote job-sites. Training is another part of the equation. The company emphasises that it conducts annual programmes covering parts, aftersales, products and technical support for its dealers. The objective is to keep specialist teams aligned with the latest

technology, diagnostic capability and machine information. The best of machines breaks down and needs repair at some stage, the company points out, and having a full, committed team supporting you and your business is the only way to succeed. That philosophy also explains why CASE sees value in offering a complete equipment portfolio rather than individual machines. A contractor can potentially source compact utility equipment, excavators, wheel loaders and attachments through one ecosystem, simplifying procurement, service scheduling, operator training and fleet management. The company finds this single brand approach can also

reduce administrative and service costs while allowing contractors to manage their fleets more consistently. In a market where project demands can change rapidly, that breadth gives CASE another way to position itself beyond the specification of any individual machine. Looking ahead, CASE sees further opportunity in machines that combine faster working cycles with lower operating costs. The next phase of its proposition, according to the company, will centre on greater fuel efficiency, faster hydraulic cycle times and a continued focus on total cost of operation. “Customers can expect CASE to deliver even more fuel-efficient models featuring faster hydraulic cycle times and lower total cost of operation. It is a straightforward proposition, but one that fits the market our company is serving here. “In the Middle East, equipment is expected to perform in heat, dust and intensive working conditions, while contractors increasingly look beyond the purchase price towards productivity, fuel consumption and the support available throughout a machine’s life,” says the company. For CASE, the answer is not one machine or one technology. It is a portfolio built around versatility, backed by dealers and adapted to the environment. That may be the company’s strongest CASE yet.

POWERING PRODUCTIVITY

AL-FUTTAIM FAMCO POWER IS AT THE HEART OF RELIABLE ENERGY SOLUTIONS FOR THE UAE’S DEMANDING INDUSTRIES, WITH FLEXIBLE FINANCE OPTIONS AND INDUSTRY LEADING WARRANTIES ON ATF GENERATORS

A

s the UAE continues to invest heavily in construction, infrastructure and industrial development, dependable power has become more than just a backup requirement. It is a critical factor in keeping projects on schedule and businesses running efficiently. From construction sites and logistics hubs to data centres and industrial facilities, organisations are increasingly looking for power solutions that deliver reliability, efficiency and long-term value. It is against this backdrop that Al-Futtaim Famco Power, one of the businesses under Al-Futtaim Industrial Equipment, is strengthening its presence in the generator market through the exclusive distribution of ATF generators. Manufactured to international standards and engineered for highdemand industrial environments, ATF generators are designed to meet the operational requirements of some of the UAE’s most challenging industries. “Businesses today operate in environments where downtime is simply not an option,” says Ramez Hamdan, Managing Director, Al-Futtaim Industrial Equipment. “Whether it’s a construction project, an industrial facility or a commercial operation, customers need equipment they can depend on every day. Reliable power has become an essential part of maintaining productivity and operational continuity.”

“Al-Futtaim Famco Power supports its ATF generator range through its nationwide UAE service network, providing customers with technical expertise and aftersales support throughout the equipment lifecycle”

38

FEATURE AUGUS T 2026

The need for uninterrupted power extends across a broad range of sectors. Construction and infrastructure projects require generators capable of supporting continuous site operations, often in remote locations and harsh weather conditions. Oil and gas facilities, petrochemical plants and heavy industrial operations place even greater demands on equipment, while sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, logistics and telecommunications rely on dependable backup power to ensure uninterrupted service.

Manufactured to international standards for high-demand environments, ATF meets operational requirements of the UAE’s most challenging industrial sectors.

For rental and power supply companies, durability, ease of transport and simplified maintenance have become equally important considerations, helping maximise equipment utilisation while reducing operating costs. As customers become more focused on lifecycle value rather than simply purchase price, generator selection increasingly centres on operational efficiency, ease of servicing and overall cost of ownership.ATF generators have been engineered with these priorities in mind. Low-noise canopy designs support

compliance with site noise requirements without compromising performance, while large-capacity fuel tanks allow extended operating periods that minimise refuelling interruptions during long work shifts. Ease of maintenance has also been incorporated into the designs of generators in the ATF range. Six strategically positioned service doors provide straightforward access for inspections and routine servicing, helping reduce downtime and improve equipment availability. Reinforced two-point lifting systems make transportation and on-site positioning faster and safer, particularly on busy construction projects. Efficiency in the UAE climate Operational efficiency is another important consideration. ATF generators offer intelligent engine management and variable load capabilities that help optimise fuel consumption across different operating conditions, reducing unnecessary fuel use while maintaining consistent performance. Longer service intervals further reduce maintenance requirements and contribute to lower total operating costs. The UAE’s climate also presents unique engineering challenges, with equipment frequently required to perform in ambient temperatures approaching 50°C. Advanced cooling systems are therefore essential in maintaining reliable output throughout extended operating periods under demanding conditions, and here ATF generators more than meet requirements, Hamdan points out. According to the Al-Futtaim Industrial Equipment MD, businesses are increasingly evaluating the complete ownership experience when investing in power equipment. “Customers are looking beyond the initial capital investment,” Hamdan explains. “They’re considering fuel efficiency, maintenance requirements, uptime and the availability of after-sales support. The total cost of ownership is becoming one of the key factors in purchasing decisions, particularly for businesses operating multiple assets across demanding applications.”

AL-FUTTAIM FAMCO’S BACK-UP

ATF OWNERSHIP MADE EASY Al-Futtaim Famco Power is now making it easier than ever to access ATF’s power products with flexible finance and industry leading warranty options. “Buyers can spread the cost of their ATF generators without disrupting their operational cash flows with our flexible payment plan, designed for businesses that need power now and financial flexibility always,” says Ramez Hamdan. “And we offer a 1-year unlimited hours warranty with full coverage, no matter how many hours you run your generators. All this is backed by Al-Futtaim Famco’s wide service infrastructure to enable customers operate with complete confidence from day one,” Hamdan emphasises.

Reliability and support He emphasises that ATF more than delivers on all these accounts, and when it comes to aftersales support, it enjoys the support of Al-Futtaim Famco, a business with decades of presence in the UAE and one of the most established service and aftersales networks in the region’s industrial equipment sector.” “Reliable after-sales support has become just as important as the equipment itself. Access to trained technicians, genuine parts and responsive service can significantly

PUMPING UP PRODUCTIVITY

GARGASH GENERAL TRADING IS SUPPORTING UAE CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY WITH KCP CONCRETE PUMPS, COMBINING ITS AFTERSALES SERVICE EXCELLENCE WITH THE OEM’S RELIABILITY, UPTIME AND MODELS WITH GREATER REACH AND OUTPUT FOR LOWER OPERATING COSTS

T

he UAE’s concrete equipment market is moving through one of its strongest cycles in years, driven by sustained construction activity across residential, hospitality, infrastructure and industrial projects. For concrete pumping equipment, that momentum is also changing the way contractors assess machines, with uptime, support and operating economics increasingly

carrying as much weight as the purchase price. “The market is going through one of its strongest cycles in years,” says Anas Al Shaikh, General Manager, Gargash General Trading. “In the UAE alone, we are seeing sustained momentum across high-rise residential and hospitality developments in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, alongside major infrastructure and industrial projects.” According to Al Shaikh, the purchasing equation has become more demanding. “It is no longer just about the machine price. Contractors today look at

total cost of ownership, uptime guarantees, parts availability, and how quickly a supplier can respond when a pump is standing on a critical pour.” “Schedules are tighter, concrete mixes are more demanding, and pours are becoming larger and higher.” This is increasing demand for longer booms and higher outputs, as well as machines capable of handling high-strength and high-performance concrete. “Fuel efficiency and operator comfort, meanwhile, have moved from being secondary considerations to genuine purchasing criteria.”

41

Gargash a long-term partner For Gargash General Trading, the response has been to position itself not simply as an equipment supplier but as a long-term partner for contractors, ready-mix companies and specialist pumping businesses. The company is the official UAE distributor of KCP Concrete Pumps and has developed its offering around the requirements of the local market. “We see our role as much more than supplying machines,” says Al Shaikh. “We act as a long-

term equipment partner to contractors, readymix companies, and pumping specialists across the country.” That approach includes technical consultation to match boom size and output to the project, competitive commercial structures, delivery and aftersales support. Al Shaikh says the company’s position is strengthened by the wider Gargash Group’s experience in the UAE and KCP’s engineering background. “We combine the strength of an established local house

with the engineering quality of one of the world’s leading concrete pump manufacturers,” he says. “That combination, Korean engineering supported by genuine local accountability, is what has allowed us to grow our installed base steadily in a very competitive segment.” Aftersales is where customers are won or lost and Gargash treats it that way, says Al Shaikh. “A concrete pump that stops mid-pour is not just a machine problem; it can compromise an entire structural element. So our support model is built

“We see our role as much more than supplying machines. We act as a longterm equipment partner to contractors, readymix companies, and pumping specialists across the country” around uptime. We maintain local stocks of genuine KCP parts, including delivery pipes, elbows, wear plates and cutting rings, seals and hydraulic components.” Factory-trained service engineers provide support across the Emirates, while operator training and commissioning are carried out at handover. Wide model range “KCP’s broad product range also allows Gargash to address different applications with machines suited to their operating environment,” Al Shaikh says. The portfolio extends from compact city-class pumps in the 20 to 28-metre range, through 33 to 46-metre machines, to larger 52, 56 and 63-metre models and beyond. “Stationary pumps and separate placing booms are also available for corewall and slip-form applications.” “This breadth matters in the UAE because the work here is so varied,” explains Al Shaikh. “A contractor pouring villas in a tight community development needs a compact, agile boom that sets up quickly on narrow roads. A ready-mix pumping company serving towers on Sheikh Zayed Road needs reach, output, and the ability to pump high-strength mixes hour after hour. The objective is therefore not simply to sell a particular model, but to configure equipment around the application, including chassis, boom class and output.” Common design philosophy, hydraulics and parts commonality across KCP pumps can also simplify maintenance and training

Gargash General Trading says KCP’s Korean engineering supported by its local accountability has allowed steady growth in its installed base in a competitive market segment.

for operators working with mixed fleets. “Among the range, the KCP 56 occupies a particularly important position for major UAE projects.” Al Shaikh describes the 56-metre class as a practical point between the reach required by increasingly tall structures and the logistical demands associated with larger machines. “We selected the KCP 56 for this market because it sits in what we consider main product for major UAE projects,” he says. “It delivers genuine large-boom reach, around 56 meters vertical, yet remains

practical to transport, position, and set up on real construction sites.” “For high-rise work, the model can cover the majority of pours from street or podium level before a separate placing boom becomes necessary.” Its applications also extend to large raft foundations and mass pours, bridges and interchanges, and industrial developments where horizontal reach allows the machine to remain outside the working area. “On foundation pours, the combination of reach and output can reduce repositioning

43 stops and allow more continuous placement.” That has particular relevance in the UAE, where concrete temperature and pour continuity can affect the execution of mass concrete works. Al Shaikh summarises the productivity argument in straightforward terms: “One KCP 56 can often do the work that would otherwise require repositioning a smaller pump multiple times, or renting a larger, more expensive unit.” For fleet operators, the result is intended to be a lower cost per cubic metre placed rather than simply a higher specification on paper for fleet operators today.

In Gargash’s portfolio, the KCP 56 occupies an important position for UAE projects with its 56m boom, while being practical to transport, position and set up on various job-sites.

Expecting strong demand Looking ahead, Gargash expects the underlying demand for concrete pumping equipment to remain strong. The UAE development pipeline, encompassing residential and industrial projects, is expected to sustain concrete volumes, while the projects themselves become increasingly sophisticated. “We are very optimistic,” says Al Shaikh. “The UAE’s development pipeline, from new residential and industrial projects, means concrete volumes will remain strong for years. At the same time, the projects themselves are becoming more

sophisticated: taller structures, more complex geometries, requirements for higher-performance concrete.” That combination should keep larger, capable boom pumps central to the market. For Gargash, the KCP 56 represents a machine positioned between the UAE’s present requirements and the next stage of construction in the country. “Models such as the KCP 56 will sit right at the center of this next phase,” Al Shaikh concludes. “It has the reach for tomorrow’s towers, the output for tomorrow’s megapours, and the reliability that contractors need when every hour on the project counts.”

KCP 56

CONCRETE PERFORMANCE

Boom configuration: The KCP 56 features a fivesection Z-fold boom with approximately 56 metres of vertical reach and around 52 metres of horizontal reach, with 370-degree slewing. The Z-fold geometry allows the boom to unfold in restricted headroom and articulate into buildings through openings, which is a daily reality on congested UAE sites. Section articulation is generous across all five sections, giving the operator real flexibility to snake the boom around obstructions and place concrete precisely where it is needed. Pumping output: The pump cell delivers a

maximum theoretical output of 170 cubic metres per hour, with a high-pressure option available for demanding vertical work, through a 125mm (5inch) delivery line. Concrete pressure capability in the 85 to 95 bar class means the machine handles high-strength, lowslump, and fibre-reinforced mixes, increasingly common in UAE structural work, without strain. For a project manager, that means large pours finish on schedule and the pump is never the bottleneck behind the batching plant. Hydraulics and reliability: KCP builds its pumps around proven premium components,

including Rexroth hydraulic pumps and a deliberately simple, open hydraulic circuit. Fewer valves and a cleaner circuit mean less heat, less contamination risk, easier troubleshooting, and lower fuel consumption. This design philosophy is one of the reasons KCP machines have earned a strong reputation for reliability in hightemperature Gulf conditions. Stability and setup: The machine uses a wide, stable outrigger configuration with front X-type and swing-out rear outriggers, allowing safe setup with a manageable footprint. Setup is quick and intuitive, and the proportional boom

control gives smooth, precise movement even at full extension, reducing boom bounce and improving placement accuracy at the end hose. Chassis and controls: In our market the KCP 56 is typically supplied on premium European or Korean chassis options, giving customers flexibility on driveline preference, service network, and fleet standardisation. The operator works from a full-function radio remote control with proportional joysticks, so he can position himself with clear sight of the pour rather than beside the machine, which is a significant safety and quality benefit.

RECYCLING ROADS SMARTER

FROM INDIA’S EXPANDING HIGHWAYS TO AUSTRALIA’S LOGISTICS INFRASTRUCTURE, MB CRUSHER ATTACHMENTS ARE RECYCLING DEMOLITION MATERIAL ON SITE TO CUT COSTS, REDUCE TRANSPORT NEEDS AND IMPROVE SUSTAINABILITY WITHOUT DISRUPTING PROJECT SCHEDULES

I

nfrastructure projects are becoming larger, more complex and increasingly demanding. Whether it is a six-lane highway crossing one of India’s busiest rivers or a major logistics park supporting Australia’s freight network, contractors are under constant pressure to deliver projects faster, more efficiently and with tighter environmental controls than ever before. Across global construction markets, project teams

are facing a common challenge: how to manage enormous volumes of demolition and excavation material without creating costly delays or relying heavily on external recycling facilities. Transporting waste material away from site and bringing processed aggregates back has traditionally been accepted as part of the construction process. However, rising fuel costs, stricter environmental regulations, growing traffic restrictions and increasingly compressed project schedules are forcing contractors to rethink that approach.

One solution gaining momentum is mobile onsite material recycling using hydraulic attachments mounted directly on excavators already working on the project. Rather than relying exclusively on dedicated crushing plants, contractors can process demolition waste exactly where it is produced, transforming concrete and rock into reusable aggregates that can immediately be incorporated into ongoing construction activities. Italian manufacturer MB Crusher has been one of the pioneers of this approach, developing a

range of crusher buckets, screening buckets and other hydraulic attachments designed to convert excavators, loaders and skid-steer loaders into mobile processing units. The concept has found growing acceptance on infrastructure projects worldwide, particularly where transport distances, disposal costs or environmental considerations make conventional material handling increasingly expensive. Two recent projects, in India and Australia, demonstrate how the technology is being used to improve productivity while reducing waste.

Six-lane India round trip India’s infrastructure programme continues at an unprecedented pace, with thousands of kilometres of highways, bridges and expressways either under construction or in planning. As projects become larger and more technically demanding, contractors are placing greater emphasis on improving efficiency while reducing the environmental impact of construction. One example is the Kacchi Dargah–Bidupur Bridge, a major infrastructure project spanning the Ganges River in the eastern Indian state of

Bihar. Once completed, the crossing is expected to improve connectivity between northern and southern Bihar while significantly reducing travel times and easing congestion around Patna. During construction, contractors faced the challenge of demolishing sections of existing structures while managing large quantities of reinforced concrete debris. Instead of transporting demolition waste away from the site for processing, the contractor equipped a TATA Hitachi EX215 excavator with an MB Crusher BF90.3 crusher bucket, enabling material to be recycled immediately where it was generated. The process is relatively straightforward. Concrete sections measuring approximately 250mm are fed directly into the crusher bucket, which reduces them to a reusable aggregate of around 60mm. The recycled material is then immediately reused within the project for road construction and other infrastructure works. Processing material on site eliminates numerous truck movements between the construction site and external recycling facilities. This not only lowers transport and disposal costs but also reduces fuel consumption, site congestion and associated carbon emissions. For projects spread across long transport corridors such as highways and bridges, minimising unnecessary vehicle movements can have a significant impact on overall project efficiency. Equally important, the contractor gains greater control over the availability of construction materials, avoiding delays associated with external suppliers or recycling plants. Concrete on track in Oz A similar philosophy has been adopted on the other side of the world. Near Melbourne, Austrak Management & Consulting Pty Ltd has been developing the extensive Somerton Business Park, a logistics and industrial precinct strategically positioned close to major highways, freight routes and Melbourne Airport. Given the scale of the development, maintaining uninterrupted construction activities was critical throughout the project. Excavation works and demolition operations generated substantial quantities of concrete and other materials that required processing before they could be reused. Rather than transporting this material away from site, the contractor mounted an MB Crusher BF120.4 crusher bucket onto an excavator already working on the project. The processed material was then reused to construct internal roads and supporting infrastructure throughout the business park. By recycling material on site, Austrak reduced transport requirements, lowered disposal costs and minimised interruptions to the construction programme. The approach also reduced dependence on imported aggregate, helping to improve overall project sustainability while reducing the environmental footprint associated with quarrying and transporting virgin materials.

Hydraulic crusher buckets offer several operational advantages beyond simple material recycling. Because they utilise excavators already present on site, contractors avoid the capital investment and mobilisation costs associated with standalone mobile crushers. This is particularly attractive on projects where available working space is limited or where multiple work fronts require flexible equipment deployment. The attachments can also reduce noise, dust and traffic movements, helping contractors comply with increasingly stringent environmental regulations in urban developments and infrastructure projects located near populated areas. Beyond crushing, modern hydraulic attachment ranges now include screening buckets, drum cutters, grapples and shaft screening systems, allowing contractors to perform a wider variety of material processing tasks using existing machines.

Turning waste into value As infrastructure investment continues to accelerate around the world, efficient resource management is becoming just as important as engineering capability. For contractors, success increasingly depends not only on building faster but also on controlling costs, reducing environmental impact and making better use of materials already available on site. Whether on a major bridge project in India, a logistics hub in Australia or future infrastructure developments across the Middle East, recycling demolition material where it is generated is becoming an increasingly practical solution.
