From its redefinition in 2017 until today, our original vision not only remains alive but continues to evolve, preserving the hotel’s leading position in the market through consistency, innovation, and respect for its heritage.

Winter has always carried a distinctive character for the city – a season when the warmth of its people and the unique rhythm of Thessaloniki create an extraordinary atmosphere. Within this setting, Makedonia Palace becomes for many a “home away from home,” a place of comfort, coziness, and genuine connection.

At the heart of this experience lies our team. Our people, with their expertise, dedication, and sincere smiles, embody the soul of the hotel. These enduring values shape, every day, a hospitality experience that is meaningful and truly human.

Equally important is our relationship with the city. We collaborate with local organizations, support cultural initiatives, and highlight Thessaloniki’s gastronomy and culture, because we believe our hotel is an integral part of the city’s living fabric.

For me personally, these 16 years at the helm of Makedonia Palace have been a source of inspiration and deep emotion. Every arrival, every story, every person who places their trust in us reminds me why it is worth continuing with passion.

Terrazza Aperol in Milan is reopening its doors with an entirely new concept designed by the architectural practice of Vudafieri-Saverino Partners. With a view of the iconic Piazza Duomo, this historic space is transformed into a modern, bright socializing “stage”, characterized by the distinctive Aperol orange hue

The interior design makes use of natural light, large glass surfaces, and sustainable materials, such as the recycled, 3D-printed plastic that covers the impressive orange bar. The walls are covered in golden surfaces and wavy polycarbonate sheets that create a sense of warmth, while also communicating the message of sustainability.

The panoramic terrace, harmoniously linked to the interior, offers a unique view of the Duomo, enhancing patrons’ sense that they are a part of the city’s daily life. Disney and Formula 1 are joining forces in a partnership that brings the magic of Mickey Mouse to the world of speed. The new 25-piece limited collection, designed by the Disney team and Bobby Kim, marries the colors and energy of F1 with the iconic style of Mickey & Friends.

Clothes, accessories and collectibles in red, black and white meet plaid patterns, track lines and dynamic silhouettes, creating an urban-sporty aesthetic with a playful twist.

Skims: 4 Billion dollars empire

In just six years, Skims went from a shapewear start-up to a 4-billion-dollar business behemoth. The brand started by Kim Kardianshan – who has 345 million followers on Instagram – is a case study in business strategy. The former reality TV star who became known primarily through “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” is today one of the wealthiest celebrities of 2025, with a personal net worth estimated at 1.7 billion dollars, mostly thanks to the success of Skims.

Pencil skirt suits dominated the runways of major fashion houses. Paired with oversized knits, strapless bodices, and airy blouses, midi skirts once again became a symbol of elegance and femininity. This season draws inspiration from pieces like vests, wool trousers, turtlenecks, and leather brogues, creating a sophisticated, scholarly look. This style blends classic preppy pieces, such as light sweaters and oversized blazers, with modern touches like long pleated skirts and tassel loafers.

MAXIMALISM IN MOTION

Long fringes and bold details redefine garments that flow with the body’s movements. They have infiltrated the runways in elegant variations celebrating maximalism and offering a bold alternative to those who have moved beyond the simplicity of quiet luxury. Designers like Alaïa and Ferragamo show how maximalist touches can elevate minimal looks into outfits full of life and character.

THE PRACTICAL SIDE OF SHOES

Despite the season's impressive trends, footwear has brought a dose of practicality, with brogues, loafer mules, chunky flats, and shiny slip-ons taking center stage on the runways. Designers put emphasis on these practical yet stylish shoes, making them one of the season's most popular choices, surpassing even the classic Mary-Jane ballet flats.

The AI Aesthetic

The new era of fashion is emerging out of a dialogue between human and artificial intelligence.

The world of fashion is experiencing perhaps its greatest revolution since the era when Yves Saint Laurent dared to dress women in tuxedos. Except that this time, the revolutionary is not a person – it is an algorithm. Artificial intelligence is invading the style universe and changing everything we thought we knew so far.

The initial and most obvious application of artificial intelligence in the world of fashion is in the design process. Tools such as DALL·E, MidJourney and other specialized AI platforms enable designers to create digital designs in a flash, to experiment with color, fabric and pattern, and to put forth new collections.

In fact, some companies are taking it one step further and are creating collections that are based exclusively on AI-produced designs. For example, The Fabricant is a company that specializes in “digital fashion” – that is, clothes that are never produced in the physical world. These are digital clothes that can only be “worn” in photos, videos, or virtual environments. At the same time, a whole new world of creativity is opening up, where fashion experts can experiment with designs and fabrics that would be impossible in real life. This limits textile waste and reduces the strain on the environment and resources.

Viewers can “walk” the runway with the use of VR, explore the clothes and see thousands of different color and style variations in real time. Digital fashion shows also reduce production costs and the consequent environmental impact, a critical parameter in today’s fashion industry.

AI Supermodels and Influencers

One of the most impressive applications of AI in fashion is the emergence of digital models, known as AI supermodels. Faces such as Imma, Shudu and Liam Nikuro are not physical persons, but digital creations that have already “collaborated” with big-name fashion brands on campaigns, editorials and social media. Digital models can adjust their appearance depending on the needs of each campaign; they can “wear” any outfit without physical restrictions, and they are the source of viral content that sparks discussions.

At the same time, AI influencers are already replacing their physical counterparts. They create content, participate in ad campaigns, and interact with their audience on social media. For example, Lil Miquela, a digital model with millions of followers, collaborates with top brands such as Prada and Calvin Klein.

Furthermore, AI can predict trends before they become mainstream, by analyzing enormous volumes of data from street style, social media, and fashion week content. And so designers can create clothing that “anticipates” demand, thus lowering overproduction.

Ethical and Creative Challenges

Despite the many benefits that AI brings to fashion, its utilization also introduces significant ethical and creative challenges. One of the most fundamental is the ownership of creative output. When a design or a garment is created entirely by an algorithm, who owns it? This question opens up discussions about copyrights, creative property, and the role of human creativity in the digital age.

Another major concern pertains to AI supermodels and influencers. Digital models can be created to wear any outfit, pose without restrictions, and participate in campaigns 24/7. However, there are concerns that their propagation may reduce the available career opportunities for models who are physical persons, especially younger or up-and-coming persons trying to build a career in the industry. Furthermore, AI models do not get tired, do not get sick, and do not demand pay in the traditional way, which poses an ethical and financial dilemma for employers.

Moreover, the use of AI raises questions about representation and diversity. Who decides what the digital models will look like? How can we ensure that algorithms do not reinforce stereotypes or biases?

Also, relying on big data and algorithms to predict trends is another challenge. Algorithms can analyze thousands of photos, social media posts, and street style looks to identify what will become popular in the near future. This may seem useful, but at the same time there is a risk of limiting designers’ authentic creativity; instead of experimenting and innovating, they may start designing only based on what the data and forecasts dictate.

Experts agree that AI should work in complement to human activity, not in competition with it. AI can enrich creativity, offer new ideas, facilitate production, and open avenues for sustainable fashion, but humans remain irreplaceable. The challenge for the industry is to strike a balance between technological advancement and human creativity, so that artificial intelligence can become an enrichment tool, rather than a substitute, for the human element.

Giorgos Angelopoulos – aka Danos – is one of those people who, no matter how much the limelight tries to distance them from their roots, remain firmly grounded. Literally and figuratively. Winner of the Survivor reality show in 2017, the man who at the time had an entire country talking about his strength and endurance, now lives in Skiathos. Where the sea, nature and family form the center of gravity of his life.

And so, amidst professional obligations, new business endeavors, and the joy of raising his daughter, Danos continues to find meaning in simple things: walking barefoot, working the land, planning his new venture. Perhaps this is the secret after all: a man who has passed through arenas, stadiums and television sets and knows where he stands. And – most importantly – why.

Where do we find you these days?

I am in Halkidiki, filming for a project called NCP Warrior that will appear for the first time in Greece, for which I am co-producer and presenter. It will air on ANT1 and ANT1Plus, as well as in Cyprus and in 132 countries.

What is the concept; Is it similar to Survivor?

NCP Warrior focuses on Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). It is a sport documentary reality show featuring 10 athletes who compete for the win. The winner will earn a ticket to the Brave Combat Federation in Bahrein. He will also win a contract for similar events in his sport, as well as a cash prize.

What are the characteristics of this project that won you over and you made you decide to get involved?

I have great faith in this project. For the last six years I have been close to the MCP organization and I know the team, and its potential, well. This project is not a classic reality show. Its purpose is not to show squabbles and tension. Our goal is to showcase each athlete’s efforts, their daily drill and their sacrifices. The participants are exceptionally well trained and proficient in several martial arts. They are tomorrow’s instructors, trainers and educators, who will go into the field of sports. Even though they get tired and face intense competition, they must think clearly, choose

the most suitable technique, and act immediately. They are role models.

In each episode we will also show images of the locations where we are, connecting different regions of the country with pankration – the ancient Greek martial art that was the foundation of the education of the Greeks.

Did it ever cross your mind that you would become so popular on television, and beloved by the people?

That experience (on Survivor) gave me a tremendous push. We all got a lot of exposure from the show, but for me personally, that was a vertiginous period. Suddenly, new opportunities and professional prospects opened up and, as is always the case when you surge full speed ahead, along with the right decisions also come the wrong ones.

But the point, especially when you’ve had such a boost, is to try and make the best of it. And since you ask me today, so many years later, I am now much calmer. I try to be faithful to what characterizes me as a person, and to sleep peacefully every night.

Was there a choice you made – right or wrong – that taught you an important lesson? When, from a calm daily existence, you find yourself in a situation with tremendous exposure and tension, it is reasonable to feel shaken up. But in addition to the difficulties and changes, there is also a dose of adulation. So, it was easy to become confused – either about who I am, or about what I can do. Personally, I felt that this exposure could upset my balance and lead me to choices that were not a true expression of who I am, either personally or professionally.

Consequently, the lesson I learned from all of these trials, the professional opportunities and the effect of publicity, is that I wanted to spend more time on Skiathos. Not just because I love my island, but because it truly gives me life. My work in Greece and in Cyprus kept me away from my island for several years. I don’t regret it; every opportunity taught me something. Now, thankfully, we have found our balance. We often visit our house in Athens, but our homebase is on Skiathos. That is where I have created a business that I run myself; it is a dining establishment housed in a traditional building in the port, where we serve brunch, snacks and drinks from local producers. Skiathos, like all of Greece, is rich in great raw ingredients. And when you have quality raw ingredients at your disposal, you can create many things.

You have acted in television series. Are you continuing your acting journey?

I wanted to pause for a while, so that I could devote to the new project (MCP Warrior) the time needed to prepare it properly. Also, because of my way of thinking, television is not something I can adopt as a full-time occupation. However, there is a TV project that I have been discussing for some time, and when we find the right time to prepare properly, we will make it happen.

On your social media accounts, we see very different facets of your life: from farm work and cooking on Mount Athos, to appearances at formal events. How do all these different aspects coexist within Giorgos Angelopoulos?

I enjoy living in contact with nature, walking barefoot, working the land, feeling its energy. I love the sea, and in general, I occupy myself with practical, technical professions and with agricultural work. At the same time, more formal moments come along, mostly professional obligations. These are all parts of the same person, and all are equally expressions of me.

We know you have a strong sense of giving. Did the recognition you gained help you do more for the social good?

I have made a conscious choice to move in this direction. I want to show through my actions and my way of thinking how important it is to support our fellow humans, even if we don't know them. If a post or a story can help, even just to raise awareness, then it is worth it. We all do this, each in their own way. I'm sure there are many people who think as I do.

It is important to see beautiful things on social media, and not just doom and gloom… Thank you for saying that. The truth is that both social media and television often, for some reason, focus on unpleasant issues. But, as the late, great Thanasis Veggos used to say, in life we must find motivation. For me, motivation is to acknowledge the humanity around me. Another motivation is my family, and sports. That is why I’m doing MCP Warrior, to draw children to the world of sports. To highlight its positive aspects. Personally, it has been a great help to me in difficult times, and has kept me away from paths that, had I followed them, my life would have taken a different turn.

Was there such a dangerous phase in your life?

Yes, and it was as if a hand magically pulled me and kept me away from things that would surely have made my life turn out differently. And I say this literally, not hypothetically. When you live in the countryside or in a small town, in groups and environments where some kids have taken the wrong path, it is very easy to get carried away. Sports, whether individual or team, automatically place you in a group with values such as respect, discipline, goals, development, a spirit of cooperation. With God's blessing and my own prayers, I stayed away from choices that would not have helped me. Sports gave me the best foundations.

What is it that makes you truly happy?

My daughter and my family. When they are well, I am ten times better.

For me, family is a true blessing. This institution has enormous value and I think it is very important to continue to fight for your marriage – to keep your love and respect alive and to be meaningfully present for your spouse. Nothing is a given. Especially when a child comes into a relatively new relationship, with the demands and friction it creates for a couple that is still finding its footing.

Now, I would like you to close your eyes and describe for me a dream or goal you have for the future, personal or professional.

I am not the type of person who wants a lot of money. I do not start a business, as I am doing now, to get rich. I want it to be successful, to have an outcome that people will enjoy, and that is sufficient.

My own big dream, if I were to truly see it, is simpler. And perhaps more real: Ten years from now, that I am healthy, that my family is healthy, and we are all proud of each other. That we do not want for anything. And I do not mean material goods, but that we do not want for peace of mind, love, balance. This is our reality, for me and my spouse. If in ten years we have held that line, our beliefs and our desires, then my dream will have come true.

How do you balance maintaining high occupancy rates and maximizing average revenue per room?

Our goal is not maximum occupancy, but optimal occupancy at the right price. Our pricing is dynamic and based on real-time data analysis. We try to maintain a wide range of markets (nationalities) and available products – different room and suite types, accommodation packages, complementary benefits, etc. – in order to meet the needs of different types of guests (business, leisure, MICE, etc.), thus ensuring demand and consequently revenue throughout the year.

What data or indicators do you consider decisive in making pricing decisions?

For our long-term price strategy, in addition to historical data, seasonality and known events that affect demand, we also take into account the competition and the political and economic conditions at the local and international levels. On a daily basis, we monitor and analyze additional data to shape our dynamic pricing scheme; these include booking rate, demand, market segments, and competition prices.

What are the main challenges in revenue management for a hotel with the profile and reputation of Makedonia Palace?

In a hotel like Makedonia Palace, the added challenge is that we can't implement aggressive discount policies, as we wish to maintain its status. Forecasting demand and targeting VIP and luxury tourism markets is more challenging, as it is influenced by international trends. At the same time, high room rates must come with guest services and benefits of equally high value.

How do seasonal trends and major events in Thessaloniki (such as the Thessaloniki International Fair – TIF and the annual music festivals) affect your revenue planning strategy?

Seasonal trends and major city events are key factors in shaping our demand forecasts and our pricing. The TIF, for the most part, and trade fairs as well as the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, to a lesser extent, are periods of high demand for the entire city and especially for Makedonia Palace. Consequently, prices are set at higher levels in order to optimize the combination of occupancy and price, or revenue per available room (RevPAR).

What are the most common requests or queries you receive from guests at Makedonia Palace?

Most requests have to do with the view of the rooms, since the sea view is considered an integral part of the accommodation experience and is directly linked to feelings of relaxation and well-being. Information is often requested on packages that include spa services or other special amenities, while requests for late check-out are reviewed regularly so that each stay is tailored to the needs of each traveler. There is also a lot of interest in culinary recommendations, local attractions and cultural activities, which goes to show that a visit to Makedonia Palace is part of a comprehensive city break experience. Hospitality, therefore, begins long before arrival and every communication is an opportunity to create a sense of care and attention, so that the stay is as personal and pleasant as possible.

How do you approach a customer who is undecided about what kind of room or package to opt for?

Every undecided guest is treated with patience, courtesy and sincere interest. First, we take the time to understand their priorities and desires – whether they emphasize comfort, the view, or a combination of quality and cost. Next, we clearly present the available options so that they can choose confidently and without pressure. Our goal is for guests to feel that the proposed solution is truly tailored to their needs and wants. In this way, we cultivate a relationship of trust that makes our guests feel welcome from the first moment.

Which skills do you think are the most useful in providing personalized service?

Empathy is the most basic skill, as it enables an understanding of guests’ needs and wants, even when they are not directly expressed. Attentive listening, direct communication, adaptability and attention to detail help to meet guests’ needs even in unexpected situations. Courtesy and a positive attitude enhance the warm, amiable relationship, creating a truly personalized hospitality experience.

Was there an incident that made you experience particular satisfaction with the way you accommodated a guest?

We experience great satisfaction every time guests leave truly pleased with their experience at Makedonia Palace. The moments when a guest asks to meet personally the employee who served them, in order to express their joy or gratitude, are among the most touching. The same is true when a small souvenir or handwritten card is offered as a token of appreciation – such gestures prove that personal contact has value beyond any business transaction. The same goes for positive reviews, which recognize our daily efforts to provide a high standard of hospitality with honesty and care.

How do you ensure that prices and availability on online channels are always up to date?

At Makedonia Palace we want every guest, whether they book through a platform or directly on our site, to have the same reliable image of the hotel. We use state-of-the-art systems that automatically update all platforms so that posted prices and availability are always correct. However, behind the technology there is always human attention: the booking team checks all the details every day to ensure the accuracy of the information.

What are the greatest challenges in managing multiple booking platforms?

The greatest challenge is balancing between technology and the human touch. Although there are dozens of booking channels, our goal is to maintain a high quality of information and service in all of them. This requires constant attention and excellent coordination with the other departments – reception, reservations, sales – so that every guest enjoys a flawless experience, from the moment they make their reservation until their departure.

How do you help increase direct bookings?

We particularly enjoy personal communication with our guests. When someone contacts us directly – via the website or by phone – we can better understand their needs and suggest the ideal solution. We offer special privileges and packages for direct bookings and at the same time we make sure that the process is easy, direct and friendly. The reservations team is always happy to help with every detail – from room selection to suggestions for things to do in Thessaloniki.

In what ways do you leverage guest feedback?

We listen carefully to every comment, because we believe that guests are the most important drivers of improvement. All observations –whether positive or suggestions for improvement – are recorded and discussed, so that we can identify areas where we can optimize. We are particularly moved when guests mention members of our team by name; It is the greatest reward for our work and dedication. At the end of the day, what we care about the most is for every guest to depart with a smile and the wish to return.

Xinomavro Days

From October 31st to November 2nd, Salonika Restaurant dedicated three days to Xinomavro, a grape variety that stands as a symbol of Greek viticulture. In honor of World Xinomavro Day, distinguished labels highlighted the wine’s many expressions: refreshing white, ethereal rosé, and robust red. Guests paired them with carefully selected dishes from the à la carte menu, creating a food and wine experience that revealed the most delicate nuances of the Greek terroir.

Thanksgiving is a celebration of gratitude: for the year’s harvest, for the gifts of time, and for the comfort of home and family, as it is traditionally observed around shared tables. As it also marks the beginning of the festive season leading into Christmas and New Year’s, we embraced the opportunity to prepare something truly special.

Our guests enjoyed the chef’s special dish: a traditional stuffed turkey with chestnuts, sweet potatoes, and Brussels sprouts with bacon.

This dish was added to the regular menu of the Salonika Restaurant exclusively for Thanksgiving Day.
