WELCOME TO THE WESTERN ANGUS BULL SALE Welcome to our 13th Annual
Western Angus Bull Sale!
Customers and Fellow Cattlemen, Welcome to our 13th Annual Western Angus Bull Sale. My how time flies. Seems like just yesterday we were having our first. Now we offer nearly 50 bulls of which we have heavily scrutinized to ensure every bull will stand up to your needs. We would like to welcome Carlson Cattle Company on board as we have worked very closely with Lon and Lorraine over the past several years. They add a wealth of enthusiasm and knowledge and have an excellent set of Gelbvieh bulls for your appraisal.
The Wes Merrill Family
Wes and Wendy with children Austin, Kasey, Tylor, Kash, daughter-in-law Marisa and granddaughter Brianna.
As usual, our black angus bulls are very sound and fed for longevity not for show. The feet and legs are extremely important as these bulls need to work hard in a relatively short period of time. We strive to incorporate the best genetics through the use of our A.I. program as you will see most of these bull are sired by A.I. bulls. You will note some of these bulls are backed by many generations of pathfinder sires for consistency in maternal strength, performance, carcass, and most importantly, calving ease. Let’s face it, none of us are getting younger and the calf born unassisted gets the best start. All of the low maintenance traits are here.
We are excited to write a new chapter along with the Carlsons. Feel free to give any of us a call to stop by and view the bulls or to answer any questions you may have. Note a new time of 1:00 sale day so come have lunch on us, buy a bull, and we will deliver them free of charge at your convenience.
Sincerely, Wes & Wendy Merrill Kash, Kasey, Austin & Tylor
And remember - “Wean More Pounds, Buy Western!”

Resource has gained the admiration of cattlemen worldwide as a sire of body mass, efficient conversion and phenotype power like of few sires the breed has ever seen. as impressive as his sons are, Resources greatest attribute is likely his daughters A foot improver and tremendous udders and excellent disposition. When on an all breeds tour in North Dakota, we noticed every breeder, no matter what the breed was had some registered half breed calves sired by resource. 13th Annual Western Angus Bull Sale 11
WELCOME FROM CARLSON CATTLE COMPANY Our Family Welcomes You All!
We have been selling purebred Gelbvieh cattle for over 45 years and have lost track of what bull sale this is. We down sized the herd from 400 to 100, making sure to keep only the best, a few years ago and have been selling mostly private treaty for the last few years. We now have our numbers back up and since the opportunity arose to have a combined sale with Western Angus we decided to jump at it! I’d like to tell you a little bit about our program, we have been testing our herd and only using Leptin positive sires for over 10 years now which has left us with a high percentage of Leptin positive animals. Leptin you ask? Well Leptin is a gene that is identified through DNA testing in cattle. Leptin contributes to rate of gain, milk production and is also linked to feed efficiency. Which brings me to another trait we test for, RFI (Residual Feed Intake), this trait is 40% hereditary and can reduce your cattle’s feed consumption by up to 20%, therefore if you can raise 20% more cattle on the same feed, why not? Anyone up for paying yourself first! Our bulls pass on the Leptin gene and tend to be more efficient on feed than their contemporaries. For more info on Leptin or RFI go to our website: www.carlsoncattlecompany.com. You can also view the sale bulls online as well. Thanks, Lon and Lorraine (and family)
The Carlson Family
P.S. Don’t miss our free Leptin and EPD seminar the first week in August at the acreage near Magrath – Guest speakers and lunch included.
