It is truly an honor and a privilege to be able to share our passion with you today. The Vikse Family Farm was established in 1902 by my greatgrandfather and is proud of its six generations. Tracee’s family farm is located a mile and a half away and was established in 1906. I wonder what our forefathers would say with all these little cowboys and cowgirls running around. To be able to raise our family on the farm and share it with them and now our grandchildren is a real blessing. I’ve had the opportunity to judge many shows last year and to pass on our passion with many youth along the way. The places our cattle have taken us and the friendships we’ve made we will always make us feel very humble and grateful. I believed the cattle prices would go up and many of you have read and heard me talk about were and what the future holds in the cattle industry. We’ve seen so many herds disperse over the years due to age, health or income to keep those farm families afloat. Don’t be alarmed at these dispersals! If you’re planning on staying active take it as a positive. We are at an all-time shortage of cow number’s in North America and the numbers still continue to decrease. We’ve seen the market soften as we moved closer to the New Year but still saw steer calves at $1400- $1600. There’s no way we can know for sure but I see the cattle markets not only staying strong for many years or possibly even getting stronger as more shortages appear. We are very fortunate to be able to raise crops, cattle and children on our farm. We take pride in it and invite you to come and celebrate with us and live it with us on February 15th! If you’re unable to attend the sale and would like to use our “SIGHT UNSEEN PURCHASE PLAN” we would be really happy to work with you. Give me a call so I can get a good idea of your program and your needs. We take this program very seriously and handle it with the utmost sincerity and integrity. We feel we can offer you a truly excellent product at a fair price and we will stand behind it 100%! We know bulls can get injured and things can happen but we have the numbers to help you out. It doesn’t matter if you bought a bull from us or not, we are just happy to help! Come check out the tremendous pens of five females that have been hand selected, palpated and preg checked. What an opportunity to pick up females from breeders that have used our genetics! See you at the Vikse Family Farm on Family Day!! Dave & Tracee Vikse and Family

Shana lee with her Supreme Champion female - Camrose 2015

Spring 2016 ePD’s BW: -1.2 WW: +48 YW: +73 Milk: +21 TM: +45 Definitely one of my favorites, 92C has loads of capacity, natural muscle expression, amazing temperament & a super hair coat. He has “Breeder Bull” written all over him as his cow family has been totally stellar for us – Ryan & Alicen McLaughlin (AB) have two sons, Ron Smith (AB) has a female, Gary Andrews (BC) has a son, Blake Alton (ON) has a female and, of course, a daughter we presented to Shana Lee Fankhanel in memory of our granddaughter, Esme. Shana Lee and Esme had a very fun and successful year on the show road. Congratulation on Champion Bred Heifer, Supreme Champion Female, first in showmanship and all your accomplishments you two girls achieved, we couldn’t be prouder. 92C is an absolutely a rip of a bull. Use him on heifers or cows but use him hard ‘cause you will absolutely love his daughters, and the sons will totally hit it out of the park. Retaining ½ Interest & ½ Possession.

Our good friends at Erskine Colony have a Smokin’ Jo son in there herd and when you see their females in the sale today you will be blown away. 34C expresses loads of muscle, is very deep quartered with tons of capacity and loads of hair. 34C is a total standout with an 82 lb BW. 34C is one sweet package!

Barndance had an incredible show career winning many shows, but I think his greatest show career is what he’s done for the breed. Barndance was Grand Champion Red Angus at Olds, Farmfair, and Agribition and Supreme Champion Over All Breeds in Edmonton and named “Red Angus Show Bull of the Year”. His sons all express tremendous growth, appetite and muscle shape. We are very proud to be able to offer sons out of this “Truly Legendary Sire”.

Reflecting back to the original Overflow 1W we purchased from Artzen Angus (partner David Mohr), we are seeing some of our top cows going back to this outstanding herd sire. When you purchase a Herd Sire, it really takes three years to decide if you like what you have. That’s were 188A comes in!! 73R was out of Eggens Flush Program and we were pretty sure it could be a home run. We partnered up with Parmley Angus on this amazing Herd Sire, 188A, and you decide for yourself if he is a Home Run!

CHECK THIS OUT! This “Bad Boy” was born March 16th. We scored 253C very high and really believe he is going to develop into one “Lean, Mean, Meat Machine”!! He is one super good bull! His sire, 114A, with super hair, huge muscle expression and wide pin set was our “Go To: bull in our Pen of Three” at Alberta Select and the Canadian Bull Congress. He weaned off the pasture at 934 lbs.

If you only have time to find one Charolais Bull at sale, make sure you check out 163C. We scored him very high! I am very excited about how the Encore sons look, especially out of heifers. 163C was an escape artist on picture day and got missed but he is an absolute rip of a bull.

Again an Encore son out of a first calver. We believe Encore is an early gestation bull which really helps on his Calving Ease. We found the Encore calves come 3-6 days early from their A.I.’ed due date. 11C is very deep bodied, very good muscle expression and more of a moderate frame type bull. – 39 –

Thank goodness this all happened after we bought him or we might not have been able to afford him! At Agribition 222Z granddam and heifer calf were Supreme Champion Female. Get ready to write a new chapter in the cattle business! Take note of this Ice calf – we think you will love him. He has hair, testicles, is smooth polled, balanced and exudes power. Backed by an awesome cow family, hard working and reliable, this is the third bull calf from his dam, 95U, who is a “must see” cow. Whether you ship your calves in the fall, feed them in a feedlot or sell bulls for a living, 189Z is the total package. We showed 189Z at the Lloydstockade last fall and he was Champion Charolais Bull owned by Blake Alton Alton Century Farms, ON.

Not very often an April 22nd calf will make a mid-February bull sale! He is by far the youngest bull in the sale today and has,by far, the greatest 205 Day Weight. We picked the dam, 290X, at the Sproule Dispersal and we are very excited to see what more great sons and daughters she can produce.

WELCOME TO OUR 2016 BULL SALE!

It is very rewarding to see and hear about the VFF bulls producing great offspring for you. I know half of the equation is the strong herds you have worked so hard to build. So from me to you, a great big THANK YOU for choosing our bulls. I think the calf market will continue to be strong in 2016 which is also rewarding to see your cattle friends have profitable years. Our family had a very exciting year that started off with Nicole & Kyle having the most memorable wedding – a beautiful bride coming in on a horse to the groom being pushed to the ceremony in a cool rebuilt 1956 Ford. Then we had a family trip to Cypress hills – very beautiful with lots of fun spending time with family and we couldn’t help taking in a cattle tour at Paradise Ranch. Jesse and Jac started their family with birth of Kohen, a bright eyed little grandson for us admire. Mike and Amanda added Everly to their family – a little princess for us to enjoy. Dusty and Jessica added Beckham to their family – a little sweetheart for us to hold.

My “Draft Picks” for this year: Lot #24 (145C), Lot #62 (226C) & Lot #97 (191C)
