Looking Back At 2025, Looking Ahead To 2026

Cowley Abbot’s Live Aucton on November 26th boasted many impressive results, including an 85% sell-through rate, multple bidding wars, and set aucton records for works by James Wilson Morrice and Lionel LeMoine FitzGerald. Our 2025 Spring Live Aucton also delivered strong results, including artst records for Yves Gaucher, Frances Anne Hopkins and ferce bidding for an urban masterwork by P.C. Sheppard.

2025 was an eventul year for Cowley Abbot, and we are grateful to the Canadian art community for their contnued support. Thank you for being a vital part of a momentous year marked by meaningful collaboratons, new initatves, and growth. We appreciate your support and engagement throughout these milestones. We look forward to presentng many more excitng events and projects in 2026 as we contnue to celebrate Canadian and internatonal art. Cowley Abbot’s Spring Live Aucton will be held on May 27th at the Globe & Mail Centre in Toronto, and our team is already preparing an outstanding collecton.

2025: A Year of Excitng New Ventures

Launch of Our New Website

A major milestone, providing new features and a seamless bidding experience, allowing collectors an expansive experience as they contnue to collect with Cowley Abbot.

Ideas of Far North Exhibiton

Curated by academic Mark Cheetham, this thought-provoking exhibiton ofered a fresh perspectve on northern imagery in visual art.

Beyond These “Firsts”: Cowley Abbot’s Partcipaton in Recurring Events

Live Aucton Previews in Calgary and Montreal

We contnued our recurring preview exhibitons in both cites, welcoming collectors and engaging local communites before our fnal preview in Toronto. Ahead of the Fall Live Aucton, Cowley Abbot launched extensive advertsing and promotonal campaigns. Regional and natonal newspapers frequently featured advertsements of our aucton highlights, and partners Rob Cowley and Lydia Abbot travelled across the country to appear in television news segments and radio shows. This broad exposure played a key role in the tremendous success of the Fall Live Aucton.

Art With Heart Preview and Auctoneering

We once again hosted the ofcial preview for Art With Heart, with Rob Cowley and Perry Tung serving as auctoneers for this important event. For over 30 years, Art With Heart has raised funds in support of Casey House, a specialty hospital providing care to people living with and at risk of HIV.

Valuaton Days Across Canada

We held numerous valuaton events natonwide, including at the MacLaren Art Centre, the Otawa Art Gallery, and the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, as well as a special art presentaton at The Rooms.

Partcipaton in Canadian Art Hop

We took part in this annual cross-Canada celebraton of art, connectng with collectors and insttutons through coordinated exhibitons and events.

The Internatonal Art Department

Cowley Abbot’s Internatonal Art department has contnued to grow steadily over the past fve years, atractng artwork of note to a collectng audience across Canada and beyond. These important oferings are providing an opportunity for Canadian collectors to acquire internatonal artworks within our borders, while also serving our clients around the globe. 2025 saw a successful sale of paintngs, works on paper and sculpture by artsts from the United States, France, Spain and Mexico.

Our Internatonal Department makes partcipatng in auctons seamless for clients worldwide. From expert consultaton to handling logistcs and cross-border transactons, we ensure every collector can access exceptonal artworks by leading artsts and from renowned estates. Department specialists look forward to bringing more artwork by celebrated internatonal artsts into focus in Canada and creatng opportunites for our clients to engage with these signifcant works.

Fine Art Appraisals and Art Collecton Management

Cowley Abbot’s Appraisals & Valuatons department ofers comprehensive writen appraisals of fne art for private collectors, corporatons, wealth advisors, lawyers and art consultants. Our Appraisal Reports are crafed to the highest industry standards and are recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), fnancial insttutons and insurance brokers. In additon to traditonal appraisals, Cowley Abbot provides Art Collecton Management services, which include creatng a detailed digital catalogue of your artwork to ensure a comprehensive record of your collecton. Our team of appraisers are credentaled members of the Internatonal Society of Appraisers (ISA) and adhere to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practce (USPAP). Private Sales

The Private Sales department at Cowley Abbot remains dedicated to acquiring rare and signifcant artworks, building on the trust Peter Ohler has established with collectors over the years. In 2018, afer more than thirty years as a principal at one of Canada’s leading historical art galleries, Peter transitoned to become a private dealer.

Peter has brought his wealth of expertse to Cowley Abbot, strengthening our frm’s oferings. He works closely with buyers and sellers, to provide confdental private sale opportunites through his extensive network of collectors. His approach ensures discreet, high-value transactons.
