About Us Beginnings and development Our story began in February 2023, when the Town Council was considering a May Day Coronation event. A working group was formed to invite people from the community to share ideas, contribute to the planning and help on the day. The driving force was the then Deputy Mayor, the late Heather Weddell. Her enthusiasm and determination to involve the community in the town’s major events helped shape the group we are today. In mid-2025, Cowbridge Community Events Group was formally founded with advice and guidance from our Town Council representatives. We work closely with the Council, but are independent, with our own constitution and officers: Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and Communications Officer. We are a “baker’s dozen”: 13 volunteers from all walks of life, bringing varied experience and a shared desire to unite residents, businesses, traders and the Town Council.
Our aims and objectives • Organise and deliver community events for residents of Cowbridge with Llanblethian and the surrounding villages. • Encourage community spirit and engagement through our events. • Promote local businesses and organisations. • Raise funds to support our activities and future events. • Operate on a not-for-profit basis.

About Us
OUR EVENTS & YOUR SUPPORT
Our two main events are the May Fayre and the Christmas Reindeer Parade. Both involve considerable costs. Two of our volunteers are also Town Council members, and we benefit from excellent collaboration, including Council funding support for road closures and the laser light show that closes the Reindeer Parade. We will continue raising money through smaller events to help fund our main celebrations. Local sponsorship offers an opportunity to expand our programme and move forward.
Our funding aims • Expand entertainment, including the Reindeer Parade laser show. • Provide the infrastructure our events need, such as adequate toilet facilities at the May Fayre. • Broaden advertising across a variety of platforms in Cowbridge, so people know who we are, what we do and what is happening. • Create opportunities for additional smaller events throughout the year. • Become as self-sustaining and independent as possible.
