Organza Fabric Complete Buying Guide Organza is the fabric that solved wedding wardrobe fatigue after 2019. Sits away from the body, catches banquet-hall light, shows embroidery from three metres away, weighs less than a dupatta. But 'organza' at ₹95 per metre and 'organza' at ₹950 per metre are two different fibres and two different animals. This guide explains which one belongs on your shortlist. The three organzas you will meet at any counter 1. Silk organza (pure) Made from twisted silk yarn. Feels dry, almost crisp between the fingers. Ivory-toned in its natural state, most colours are dyed after weaving. Falls in a soft cone, holds embroidery weight the best. Price band: ₹520 to ₹950 per metre for good quality. Below ₹450, question the label. 2. Silk-cotton or silk-blend organza Cotton warp with silk weft, or vice versa. Slightly softer hand than pure silk. Takes dyeing well. The workhorse of the mid-price festive rack. Price band: ₹280 to ₹520 per metre. Good for daytime functions, wedding-guest lehengas plus pieces that need to survive a long dance floor. 3. Poly organza (also called crystal organza or crush) Fully synthetic. Bright, uniform, cheap. Sits stiffer than silk. Photographs beautifully on Instagram, less honest in person. What happens next tells you which organza you are holding. • Silk organza: bounces open almost fully, minor creases that release in 10 seconds. • Blend organza: partial creases, holds a soft memory of the fold. • Poly organza: creases sharply and stays creased until you steam it.
