Reception net + lining rule The reception fabric decision is often less about how much it sparkles and more about how it behaves after lining, stitching and pleating.
French soft net — ■950 to ■1,400 per metre. Fluid pallu drape. Needs satin or crepe lining.
Sequins net — ■1,600 to ■2,400 per metre. Photographs well under banquet light. Ask for a karigar sample.
Fine embroidered net panel — ■1,800 to ■3,500 per metre. Check border repeat before buying less than full cut.
COUNTER NOTE If the design depends on a border, repeat or directional sparkle, confirm the full usable width before finalising the metre count.

02 • SANGEET COCKTAIL
Fabrics that move with the night For sangeet looks, the useful test is movement: can the fabric handle a fitted silhouette, a dance-floor moment, and a quick re-drape without becoming a tailoring problem?
Sequins fabric on satin base — ■1,400 to ■2,200 per metre. Best for a fitted cocktail gown or an Indo-Western.
Pakistani suit fabric — chiffon dupatta set — ■2,400 to ■4,800 per set. Sangeet-mehendi crossover.
Organza with cutwork borders — ■1,100 to ■1,900 per metre. Light, safe for dance floor, easy to re-drape.
BUYING LENS
For a cocktail set, decide the silhouette first. The same sequin or organza can read very differently once it is converted into a fitted gown, sharara, kurta set or dupatta.
