Help Piggy find warmth this winter

'A plague on all your houses: Epidemic Diseases and our Ancestors' talk Since Covid-19 we're very aware of epidemic disease, but what epidemics impacted the lives of our ancestors? How did they attempt to prevent or cure these diseases and how effective were the measures? Dr. Janet Few is a British historian, genealogist, and author specialising in 17th-century social history. Best known for her educational books, living history interpretations as Mistress Agnes, and award-winning historical fiction. She is the president of the Family History Federation. The talk takes place on

November 16th at 2:30pm, in person at the Fromus Centre, Street Farm Road, Saxmundham, IP17 1AL (behind the Library) and, for members only, on Zoom. The speaker will be talking to us on Zoom. The talk starts at 2:30pm. No need to book, just turn up, free for members and £5 for visitors, including refreshments. Good, free car-parking. Only members can take part in our meetings on Zoom, but it only costs £10 for a year's membership. For more information, please see: avsfhg. org.uk/join-us and Zooming is free.

Poor Piggy. Piggy the gentle tabby has lived outside for the whole of his 15 years. His 'owner' moved away and someone else took on giving him a little food. Now they are moving away too. They all thought he was fine, living in an old box, outside in all weathers, the chill of 15 winters invading his skinny frame. Suffolk Animal Rescue (SAR) took this little sweet soul in, and he joined 200 other rescued felines, all hoping to find comfort and affection as autumn and winter nights begin to march in and bite. SAR is a tiny but massivelyeffective animal welfare charity based near Debenham, Suffolk. Next year it celebrates 30 years of relentlessly rescuing animals, but founder Jayne Roberts says things have never been so bad. The charity is overwhelmed by cats and kittens, dogs, rabbits and even some wildlife, all needing rescue and veterinary treatment. The veterinary bill for last month alone was £18,000. SAR is unusual in that it concentrates on the feral cats and kittens because, as Jayne says: "Nobody else is keen on doing that. And they make the best pets, grateful for the kindness, attention, shelter and food." Luckily the local community rallies to raise funds, including the parishioners at St. Peter and St. Paul's Church in Aldeburgh, and

Debenham Veterinary Practice is generous and hugely supportive. Jayne says: "We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supports us but we really need to find good homes for cats like Piggy. We're overwhelmed by the numbers of animals needing help. We have a huge waiting list. Crucially we need to get these cats and kittens out of our catteries and into cosy homes before winter bites." Piggy is one of the lucky ones to get a place. He has had his thorough vet check already. Some of the roots of his teeth were exposed so he's been to the veterinary dentist! He will need another operation for his thyroid and then he'll be fit and ready for his new home. Jayne said: "I want him to have comfort and kindness and a little luxury. I want someone to make up for the last 15 years of struggle and fear. He was so thin when he was brought in. Nobody wanted him or let him into their warm homes. They left him out in the cold, all alone and unloved. He's such an adorable, sweet and lovely chap, giving gentle head bumps, asking for kindness and a little fuss. I'd love him to be spoiled, to make up for all the struggles he has been through. He would just like a soft sofa to sit on, a warm fire to curl up by, instead of the cold harshness of the last 15 years." These gentle head bumps

We're excited to share what our team and rescue cats have been up to recently, along with some important tips and upcoming dates you won't want to miss. Quiz Night success Our most recent fundraising event, held at the end of September, was our Quiz Night. This year we were in Saxmundham, and we were delighted to have a full house. Our fantastic team of volunteers pulled out all the stops to create a lively, fun, and very successful evening. Thanks to everyone's enthusiasm and generosity, we raised almost £500, all of which goes directly towards helping the cats in our care. A brilliant result! Updating microchip details We've recently encountered a number of issues while checking microchip information on cats that have been found. In many cases, the problem arises because the owner has moved and not

updated their contact details with the microchip database. Keeping microchip information up to date is essential. When details are outdated, it becomes much harder, and sometimes impossible, to reunite lost cats with their families. It's a simple step that makes a huge difference. How to check or update your cat's microchip: If you've lost your cat's microchip paperwork, ask your vet to scan your cat to obtain the microchip number. If you're unsure which database holds the registration, you can use this website to find out: identi.pet/ catsprotection Once you know the correct database, make sure to update them if: • You move home • You change your telephone number • You transfer ownership of your cat to someone else

Discover what's on your doorstep October, with its changing colours and cooler days, is a wonderful time to rediscover what is right on our doorstep. As autumn settles in, it's a perfect opportunity to get outside, explore somewhere new and appreciate some of the places and communities around us. Across Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, we're fortunate to have a wonderful mixture of countryside, villages, historic towns and thriving communities. Yet it is surprisingly easy to overlook the interesting places close to home, particularly those we pass regularly without stopping to explore. There are some real treasures to discover. Framlingham Castle, with its magnificent walls and views across the Mere and surrounding countryside, offers a glimpse into more than 800 years of history. Needham Lake is another wonderful place to enjoy. With its waterside walks, open green spaces and abundance of wildlife, it provides a peaceful setting for a stroll, some fresh air or simply a chance to slow down and enjoy the changing season. But discovering what is on our doorstep needn't involve a major day out. October is a lovely month to explore a local footpath, park or woodland as the autumn colours appear. You might visit a village or part of Ipswich you don't normally see, explore a historic church, discover a local landmark, or simply take a different route on your regular walk. Sometimes seeing a familiar place from a different perspective can be

just as enjoyable as travelling somewhere new. Our libraries, churches, village halls and community centres are also well worth discovering. They host an enormous variety of activities, from coffee mornings and talks to choirs, craft groups, exercise classes and children's activities. Many are inexpensive or completely free, and they provide a great opportunity to learn something new, pursue an interest or simply enjoy some good company. Perhaps the best thing about exploring locally is that we also discover more about each other. Calling into a community event, joining a group or stopping for a conversation can introduce us to people we might otherwise never meet. These everyday connections are an important part of what makes our towns and villages such enjoyable places to live. So, this autumn, why not set yourself a small challenge? Visit somewhere locally that you've never been before, try a new activity, take a new walk or discover one thing you didn't know about the place we call home. Sometimes the most enjoyable discoveries aren't far away at all. They are waiting just around the corner. I'm always pleased to hear from constituents. Our meeting in September included a talk by Brian Heard, a former ballistics scientist with New Scotland Yard. He gave us a very entertaining and light-hearted look into his 40-year career as a forensic scientist, which included dealing with evidence from the Krays and Richardson gangs. Many thanks to Brian for a fascinating presentation; we look forward to the next instalment on his work with the Hong Kong police. Our meeting on November

19th, will include a demonstration from Sheila at Callendar's Florist. We have also been busy knitting decorations for the St. Michael's Church Christmas Tree Festival. Our meetings will continue in 2027 and are open to all. They include refreshments, and we look forward to welcoming new faces. Meetings are held on Thursdays at 2:30pm at The Crown Hotel. For further information, please email: framlingham-suffolk@ sja.org.uk.

Inner Wheel rallies Colourful autumn support for Ipswich days for older people Hospital's Time Garden Appeal

Talks arranged for 2027 include Suffolk Prickles Hedgehog Rescue, RSPB Minsmere, and the EJaRT Creative Team. Special thanks to Gabriela at The Crown Hotel for providing us with such a lovely venue for our monthly meetings. The Framlingham Fellowship would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support over the past year and wish you Current Inner Wheel (IW) a Merry Christmas and a Happy Club of Woodbridge president, New Year! Deirdre Griffin, chose Ipswich Hospital's Time Garden Appeal as her charity this year, and members were intrigued to learn more about this from Maxine Birchall (Clinical Project Lead for End-of-Life Care at Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals). A Time Garden is a meticulously wellplanned space within which patients and those closest to them can take time - quality time, when time really does matter. It might be time to breathe in the fresh air or listen to natural sounds, to see the sky and feel the breeze. It might be for a celebration or gathering which could not happen on the ward. Although essentially a nonclinical space, the Time Garden will have all the equipment and staff necessary to keep the patient safe and comfortable, but the smells, sounds, and sights will be homely and natural. Colchester Hospital already has a Time Garden, but Ipswich has a designated plot within the grounds which is ready to be transformed into an amazing space for end-of-life patients. However, this amazing project

cannot be started until all the £600,000 needed has been raised. All proceeds from the IW of Woodbridge annual quiz will be donated to this fantastic charity, so please put 12th March 2027 in your diaries and bring a team to support this great cause. Macmillan event Deirdre Rothwell shared the news that she'd raised £1,500 by hosting a Macmillan event at the beginning of September. June Kenyon asked members to please start baking again ready for the Memory Café, which continues to be held at Woodbridge Football Club for those with memory loss and their carers on the last Wednesday of each month. Members were also reminded about the Rough Stuff bike ride and the beauty afternoon, which are both happening later in October. Woodbridge IW members meet at Ufford Park Hotel at 6:30pm on the first Thursday of each month. Find out more about the club and its aims and objectives at District 8 (innerwheel.co.uk) or email: district8innerwheel@gmail. com for further information.

The older members of the community (anyone retired or semi-retired with time on their hands) can join this vibrant organisation and enjoy a wide range of activities. For some, U3A provides the opportunity to find new interests, meet new challenges or to make new friends. For others, it's all about lifelong learning in the company of other with similar goals. Alongside approximately 150 different local activity groups, there's a varied programme of monthly talks held at venues in Kesgrave, Felixstowe,

Woodbridge and Saxmundham. November's programme of speakers will be tackling subjects including: The Ipswich Riots of 1863, A Life in UK Customs, A Tour of Supernatural Suffolk and The East Anglian Food Museum. Full up to date information is available on the U3A website: u3aeastsuffolk.org.uk. Please be aware that there is the occasional need to cancel or reschedule, so please check before setting out. New members are welcome in East Suffolk U3A, with the expectation that they will contribute to the success of the group. Alde Valley Suffolk Family History Group

'Posted in the Past: Hands Across the Sea' talk by Helen Baggott On September 21st, Vice Chair Jan welcomed Alde Valley Suffolk Family History Group (AVSFHG) members to the Fromus Centre and on Zoom for an illustrated talk by the "Postcard Detective" Helen Baggott, who's been researching the stories behind postcards that are over 100 years old. Helen has had books published containing these stories: Posted in the Past, Past Second Delivery and Posted in the Past Hands Across the Sea. In today's talk, the stories were all related to travel. In the early 1900's, a letter cost 1d to send and a postcard 1/2d, the postcard arriving much quicker. Helen researches the names and places on the postcards and has been able to find out much about the people involved. Miss Georgina Ballantine, it turned out, lived in Victoria cottage near the River Tay. She was a nurse in WWI and in a 1922

newspaper article, Helen found that Georgina had caught a 65lb salmon, which was a record catch which still holds today. The fish was donated to the local hospital and her portrait was hung on the Men's Club, though she was never allowed in to see it. An amazing lady was Audrey Harris, a debutante, who, on her own, in 1935 embarked on a journey across Europe, which was funded by her father. At home, she'd been used to luxury but on her travels there was little privacy. Audrey went on to China and Japan, and in Korea found herself sleeping on a straw mattress with people very curious about her handwriting and also her hair. In Iran and Iraq there were few women seen outside and travelling alone was not the norm. Audrey's travel diary was published as Eastern Visas and Helen was able to purchase a copy. Jenny Mann

Get festive ready

Planning your Christmas get-togethers As November approaches, the days grow shorter and a crisp, autumnal chill settles into the evening air... It's that time of year when we pull our favourite jumpers, coats, and scarves from the back of the wardrobe, light the candles, and embrace the cosy shift in seasons. Before we know it, December will be upon us, and with it, the vibrant, joyful rush of the festive season. One of the highlights of Christmas is the opportunity to pause, reconnect, and spend quality time with the people who matter most. Whether it's a longoverdue f a m i l y reunion, an annual night out with close friends, a festive gathering with neighbours, or the traditional end-of-year celebration with work colleagues, there's something truly magical about gathering around a buzzing table. Dressing up for the occasion, laughing, and enjoying excellent

234959

food, good company, and a few festive drinks creates memories that stick with us long after the decorations come down. Throughout late November and December, our local pubs, restaurants, cafés, and hotels go above and beyond to bring the Christmas spirit to life. Kitchens across the area are preparing mouth-watering seasonal menus packed with local produce - from classic roast turkey with all the trimmings and rich winter puddings to creative, modern twist-on-traditional dishes. Bars are stocking up on spiced mulled wines, seasonal craft ales, and sparkling festive cocktails, while staff work tirelessly to transform these venues into warm, twinkling sanctuaries from the winter cold. We're exceptionally fortunate in our corner of Suffolk to have such a fantastic and diverse range of hospitality venues right on our doorstep. From historic, wood-beamed village pubs with roaring log fires to sleek, contemporary dining spots and cosy local tearooms, our local proprietors offer exceptional hospitality, vibrant atmospheres,

and outstanding food and drink. Whatever your group's taste, dietary needs, or budget, you'll find an abundance of inspiration within this edition of Community News. However, as any seasoned festive planner knows, tables fill up fast. Booking early is key to securing your preferred date and time, especially if you're coordinating a larger party, family gathering, or office Christmas lunch. So why not get a head start today? Fire up the group chat, compare diaries with friends and colleagues, pick a date, and decide whether to return to a beloved, trusted local favourite or try somewhere completely new this year. Supporting our local food and drink venues not only guarantees you a fantastic celebration, but it also keeps the heart of our community beating strong through the winter months. After all, when it comes to celebrating Christmas with those who bring joy to our lives, it's never too early to start making plans!

The Let Property Campaign Introduced in 2013, the HMRC's Let Property Campaign (LPC) continues to be a valuable way for taxpayers with rental income to correct their affairs. One of only three tax "amnesty" schemes currently running (the others are concerned with offshore income and card payments), the LPC enables landlords to declare historic irregularities or omissions with the advantage that other omissions (e.g. failure to notify capital gains) can sometimes be included simultaneously - often with a lower penalty regime (but provided you tell them before they contact you about it). To access the LPC, you (or a tax advisor on your behalf) will need to contact HMRC to advise them of your intention to declare under the LPC. This starts a 90-day clock to provide details of the missing/corrected rental information and calculate the tax due on the formal declaration itself. Penalties and interest under are "SelfAssessed" although HMRC do give very strong guidance as to what rates of penalty they will

consider acceptable. Once you have notified HMRC of your intention to use the LPC, HMRC are then prevented from making a discovery into your affairs. Of course, if HMRC send you a letter inviting you to call and discuss a declaration under the LPC, it is no longer deemed voluntary and is now a prompted disclosure. If the issue is classed as a "careless mistake" (for example mis-claiming relief on an improvement instead of a repair), you may only need to go back six years and any penalty may be negligible. If, however, the issue is that you never told HMRC in the first place, the full 20 years may be appropriate and the penalty higher. Higher penalties exist for prompted disclosures compared to voluntary ones and whether the omission/error was "Careless", "Deliberate but not Concealed" or "Deliberate and Concealed". Discounts on the penalties can be obtained for volunteering information, being helpful and providing access to HMRC. Occasional landlords may ultimately not need the LPC. With the annual £1,000 rental

allowance, or the £7,500 Renta-Room allowance (available only if any period of letting of your main home overlaps in full or in part with your own occupancy) there may not ultimately be any tax due. However, you should still notify HMRC of the rental income as it is up to HMRC to allow you not to file Tax Returns - not for you to arbitrarily decide not to tell them in the first place. Professional advice is essential. Hope this helps. For further information please contact Robin Beadle (pictured) via email: robin.beadle@azets.co.uk. Disclaimer: Specialist advice should always be sought prior to taking any action on matters discussed in this article.

Parking charges will once again be lifted for Remembrance Sunday events in communities across East Suffolk. As in previous years, free parking will be provided in many East Suffolk Council car parks to support commemorations on November 8th. Parking charges will be suspended for a period of five hours, either between 8am-1pm, or 1pm-6pm, depending on the preference of participating town and parish councils. • Aldeburgh: 8am-1pm • Beccles: 1pm-6pm • Bungay: 1pm-6pm • Felixstowe: 8am-1pm • Framlingham: 8am-1pm • Halesworth: 1pm-6pm • Leiston: 8am-1pm • Lowestoft: 8am-1pm • Oulton Broad: 8am-1pm • Saxmundham: 1pm-6pm • Southwold: 8am-1pm • Wickham Market: 8am-1pm • Woodbridge: 8am-1pm Cllr Paul Ashton (Deputy Leader of East Suffolk Council and cabinet member with responsibility for Corporate Services) said: "We're pleased to once again offer free parking for Remembrance Sunday events across East Suffolk. Parking charges will be temporarily suspended in selected car parks to support public commemorations, but we also encourage people to consider alternative methods of transport where possible, such as walking, cycling, or using public transport."

Christmas Market on The Hill at Wickham Market Get into the festive spirit at the Christmas Market on The Hill in Wickham Market on Saturday 28th November, from 9am until 2pm. With over 40 stalls, there will be plenty to browse, buy and enjoy, with the chance to meet the makers and discover a wonderful selection of artisan gifts, festive treats and delicious hot food. There will be plenty of Christmas magic too, live music

and a special performance from the school choir. Whether you're looking for special Christmas presents, something delicious to eat, or simply want to enjoy a lovely morning in the village, the Christmas Market on The Hill promises to be a wonderful way to start the Christmas season. Everyone is warmly welcome, parking is free, come along and join in the festive fun!

Leiston & District Philatelic Society news The new season of monthly meetings of the Leiston & District Philatelic Society commenced on September 23rd with a display by member Alan Starkey titled 'British Bank Notes'. Alan's comprehensive and detailed collection covered a period from the early 19th century to the present day. It included early notes issued by regional banks in Norwich and Great Yarmouth, Treasury notes, and Bank of England notes spanning both World Wars up to the current issue bearing the head of King Charles III.

Common Ground Theatre Company

Alan's considerable knowledge made for a most interesting and enjoyable presentation appreciated by all present. To commemorate the occasion, Andy Soutar (Secretary) presented Alan with a certificate. Future society activities will feature a display of 'Railway Art' at the meeting on October 29th, starting at 7:30pm. This will be followed on November 25th by the Society's annual auction, featuring around 300 lots of stamps, albums, and philatelic ephemera. Anyone interested is welcome to attend, as this event

is not restricted to members. Postal and phone bidding will be available, so watch out for some surprises! Viewing begins at 6:30pm, with bidding commencing at 7:30pm. On December 9th, the annual Christmas Social & Quiz will take place from 2pm-4pm at the usual venue (see below), where the Society will welcome the Mayor and members of Leiston Town Council to celebrate the festive season. The New Year will open with an afternoon meeting on January 27th (2pm-4pm) featuring a display of members' collections.

This will be followed by the annual competition on February 24th, where members compete for the coveted winner's cup, awarded by secret ballot. Meetings from March through to June are already arranged. Anyone interested in learning more about the society's activities can email: alanmartin42@btinternet.com or andy.soutar@btinternet. com. Membership costs just £5 per annum, and all meetings are held at the United Church Hall, Leiston High Street. New members are assured of a warm welcome!

Dick Mainwaring and Julian Harries in Sherlock Holmes Smells Evil!

Common Ground Theatre Company present their annual Christmas caper! Fear in the Funhouse! Terror in the Tunnel of Love! Shivers in the Shooting Gallery! On the trail of stolen artifacts, Brown faces a motley crew of churls and showgirls, led by Mozzarelli, the big cheese. For those who fancy a bonkers, surreal, and hilarious alternative to panto, book now for Common Ground Theatre Company's everpopular Christmas spoof! They've been tickling East Anglian funny bones for many years now with their hugely popular mix of classic stories and hilarious, surreal comedies and spoofs "madcap comedy gold", as The Stage put it. With their unique brand of music theatre, they've been described by Libby Purves as "one of the best things on the road in East Anglia right now... A proper treat." This Christmas/New Year, after the sweet-scented delights of last year's Sherlock Holmes Smells Evil!, they return in full bonkers mode with their traditional festive comedy caper, which this year will be Father Brown & The Carnival of Fear! A haul of recently unearthed

Roman gold and silverware, the Hiddenham Hoard, has been stolen whilst in transit to the British Museum! Maud Fiveways of the Hiddenham Archaeology Society asks her old flame Father Brown for help, but his investigations are disrupted by the arrival of Mozzarelli's Carnival! How will he find the culprit before the precious Hoard is sold off on the black market? A classic Yuletide mystery with all the Common Ground trimmings; sparkling wit, ingenious staging, hilarious songs, and surreal flights of festive fancy. Dick Mainwaring and Julian Harries star as Brown and Flambeau. Julian is known to East Anglian audiences from his many performances at the New Wolsey, Mercury Colchester, Eastern Angles, and Southwold/ Aldeburgh summer theatre, and to wider audiences from his TV appearances in EastEnders, Detectorists, Father Brown, and Mary & George. Don't miss this classic comedy mystery peppered with Common Ground's trademark sparkling wit,

ingenious staging, and hilarious songs, created by the team well known for their many Christmas shows both for Common Ground and Eastern Angles. Suitable for ages 8+. Touring to: • Hadleigh Old School (8th-10th Dec) • Seckford Theatre, Woodbridge (11th-13th Dec) • Harkstead Village Hall (16th Dec) • John Peel Centre, Stowmarket (18th-20th Dec) • Laxfield Village Hall (23rd Dec) • St. Mary's Hall, Walton (27th-29th Dec) • Southwold Arts Centre (30th Dec) • Aldeburgh Jubilee Hall (1st-3rd Jan) • Diss Corn Hall (5th-6th Jan) • Headgate Theatre, Colchester (7th-10th Jan) • Tithe Barn, Bardwell (12th Jan) • Gallery Studio Theatre, Ipswich (13th-23rd Jan) The full tour schedule is available on their website: commongroundtc.co.uk.

Up to 3,000 learners to gain engineering and construction skills A new project will support up to 3,000 learners, over five years, to gain engineering and construction skills needed to deliver Sizewell C and other Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP's). The Lound Civil Campus project at East Coast College, will establish a dynamic training hub in collaboration with regional employers, focused on addressing current and future skills needs in the civil and construction trades. The project will be funded by £2.1m from the Asset Skills Enhancement and Capability (ASEC) Fund, a £7.8 million pot secured through the planning process for Sizewell C and managed and allocated by Suffolk County Council, East Suffolk Council and Sizewell C in partnership to enhance the supply of skills related to Sizewell C, alongside regional needs and aspirations. The campus will deliver a wide range of training opportunities, to boost skills and support workforce development across the sector. It will cater to new entrants, career changers, and existing

workers seeking to up-skill, ensuring inclusive access to highquality vocational education. Cllr Vicky Armstrong (Suffolk County Council's cabinet member for finance, economic development and efficiency) said: "The Lound Civil Campus will open doors for Suffolk learners, providing them with the skills, knowledge and opportunities they need to take their first steps into construction and engineering. From gaining entry-level skills to developing and up-skilling throughout their careers, the campus will help create clear pathways into exciting and rewarding careers across the sector. By investing in people and developing the skills our region needs now and for the future, the project will leave a lasting legacy for Suffolk. It will support the growth of opportunities around Sizewell and beyond, helping to position Suffolk as a leading place to live, learn, work and invest for future Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects." Rachel Bunn (Exec Skills Director at East Coast College) said: "The ASEC funding has provided us with the unique opportunity to develop a regional training facility to help

current and future individuals to receive training linked to job opportunities. The funding will allow us to create and deliver courses for new entrants as well as skilled workers." Cllr Tom Daly (East Suffolk Council's Cabinet Member for Energy Projects) said: "When skills and workforce are locally based, it provides a genuine legacy for East Suffolk, and the Loud Civil Campus is a huge step in that direction. This is not just in relation to SzC but for the many renewable energy projects that are currently operating and organisations that are being attracted, for example, to the Lowestoft Power Park development. It's essential that young people from all backgrounds have access to the training and experience that will make them players in the decarbonisation energy revolution that East Suffolk is playing such a major part in hosting." Chris Young (Head of Sizewell C's Employment Affairs Unit) said: "It's a national as well as a regional imperative to create more opportunities and build the skilled workforce we need for the future. This new campus at East Coast College is an important

part of how our region is responding to this need - and we are delighted to provide the funding to make it happen. We want to leave a lasting legacy of skills, employment, and opportunity in the East of England, and our relationship with East Coast College is central to that ambition: our partnership has already led to the creation of Nucleus, an on-campus employability hub, and the Lound Civil Campus is another significant investment in skills and job opportunities for communities here. We can't wait to see the impact it will have for thousands of people in our region." The project has been designed to be delivered in multiple phases. The £2.1m ASEC funding has supported Phase 2 of the project, the implementation of a Technical Operators area. Work to deliver this site is already underway. Phase 3, which includes the partial refurbishment of the previous site infrastructure to provide a new training area for construction-specific learning, is expected to commence within six months of the start of the previous phase.

The fourth Leiston Works Railway Model Railway Show

Hello everyone. Autumn has come at last, with colder nights and shorter days. We hope you're enjoying the colours and smells in nature at this time of year, and keeping warm. We were the nominated good cause at the Leiston Events Group Coffee Morning held at the Community Centre on Friday 28th August. It raised £224.71 for us. Thank you so much to everyone who supported this, and to the Events Group for nominating us. We're already on the list for next year, which is great. We now have a Facebook page (/ LeistonGoodNeighbourScheme) so please do look at this. We think it'll be particularly helpful for relatives who live a long way away and want to know what services are available for their loved ones in this area. It gives information about us, such as what we do and volunteering with us. It also shows events we're holding or fundraising being carried out for us. Just to remind you all that the

Benhall Makers' Market The annual Made In Benhall Makers' Market has become a firmly established must-visit tradition for many local people in the run-up to Christmas. This keenly anticipated event will be held on December 6th, between 10am and 2pm, at Benhall Club. As always, it will be a golden opportunity for you to meet up with friends and neighbours whilst viewing high-quality products from a wide range of artists, crafters and makers (all living in Benhall and Sternfield), and possibly making Christmas purchases. It's always amazing that there are so many very talented people living in our small village, with such an eclectic range of creative skills. Whether you're looking for a practical item, something beautifully decorative, a piece of fine art, some stunning jewellery or a locally-authored book, you'll

be sure to find an eye-catching and unique Christmas gift that you just can't find elsewhere, and all at very affordable prices. You, or your loved ones, will undoubtedly appreciate and treasure an item created with care by a passionate local maker. All of the makers will be donating part of their profits to Suffolk Wildlife Trust, so you'll be supporting this worthwhile charity as well as having a thoroughly enjoyable day out. Entry to this perennially well-supported and popular event is free, there's ample parking and easy access, and, as always, there will be a range of seasonal refreshments available to purchase from the bar. There are many reasons to head down to Benhall Club for Made in Benhall and enjoy getting into the Christmas spirit, so I'd urge you to make a note of this event in your diary.
