North Bend High Symphonic Band wins Championship The North Bend High School Symphonic Band won the 2024 State 4A Championship at the LaSalle performing arts center on the Oregon State University campus, Thursday evening, May 9th. The 51-member band is conducted by Amber Yester. They scored 312 points to earn first place for the second consecutive

year, and their sixth state championship since 2014. The band performed AYO by Katana Copley, Tha MI Sgith by Brian Beck, Song for Lindsay by Andrew Boysen Jr., and Havana Nights by Randall Standridge. Gladstone High School took second place and Scappoose High School finished in third place.

100 Strong Bandon donates to Southern Coos Health Foundation Funds Supported Living & Aging Well Event The Southern Coos Health Foundation received a generous donation from 100 Strong Bandon and a matching grant to help defray expenses for the Foundation’s newest event, Living & Aging Well in Bandon. The Foundation received $4,000 from 64 members of 100 Strong Bandon, in increments of $50 to $200, as well as a 50-percent matching grant of $1,950 from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation. The Southern Coos Health Foundation’s Living & Aging Well in Bandon event was held Saturday, May 4, at the Bandon Community Center. The all-day seminar was free to attend thanks to the 100 Strong Bandon donation. 100 Strong Bandon is a group of 100 women committed to the financial support of charitable organizations serving Bandon

Wyden announces four town halls in Southern Oregon area residents. The group, founded by MaryAnn Soukup and Julie Miller and coordinated by the Bandon Chamber of Commerce, gets together four times a year for a one-hour meeting to learn about local

charities. Following presentations, each member then donates $50 (or more) to the charity selected by the group, for a total impactful gift of $5,000plus each quarter. The Bandon group was

First-Graders treated to Gift of Literacy celebration

First graders from all across Coos County and Reedsport were greeted with a standing ovation of claps and cheers as they stepped out of their school buses into the Southwestern Community College recreation center. The festive celebration on Tuesday, April 30, was an event put together to foster the love of reading among young children. “I’ve never seen a disappointed kid, and some of them are star struck right now,” said Coos Bay-North Bend Rotarian Rodney Stalcup. It is the seventh-year the Rotary Clubs and school districts of North Bend, Coos Bay, Reedsport, Bandon, Coquille, Myrtle Point and Powers have come together – along with

U.S. Senator Ron Wyden today announced he will hold in-person town halls in Josephine, Curry, Coos and Douglas counties on May 28-29. Heading into these four town halls, Wyden will have held 1,081 town halls throughout Oregon – including 16 so far this year -- in fulfillment of his pledge to hold at least one town hall each year in each of our state’s 36 counties. The town halls in these four counties originally had been scheduled for April, but had to be postponed because of Senate votes in Washington, DC. “I’m glad to be able to reschedule these town halls so quickly.
