Offshore Wind Projects More Time Oregon congressional members ask feds for more comment time on offshore wind energy sites LYNNE TERRY

Some of the most powerful and consistent winds in the world are located off the southwest Oregon coast, according to the Oregon Department of Energy.

Three of Oregon’s congressional members are pushing the federal government to extend the comment period on two proposed wind power projects off the southern Oregon Coast. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management announced last month it was moving forward with plans for offshore wind power installations off Coos Bay and Brookings. As a first step, the agency said on Feb.14 it would conduct an environmental assessment and gave the public 30 days to comment. The comment period ends on Friday. Oregon’s U.S. Sens. SOLVE invites volunteers to register for their annual Earth Day celebration: The Oregon Spring Cleanup From April 13 to April 22, families, community members, neighborhood associations, and environmental enthusiasts are invited to engage in a signature event in SOLVE's annual calendar: The Oregon Spring Cleanup, presented by Portland General Electric. Registration for this environmentally conscious event series is now open. Participants are invited to join SOLVE, event leaders, and partners from across the Pacific Northwest in a collective celebration of Earth Day. The SOLVE calendar showcases a variety of events throughout Oregon and SW Washington between April 13 and April 22, with the majority of events

culminating on April 20. Diverse initiatives address specific environmental needs with opportunities ranging from beach cleanups to neighborhood and city litter pickups. Further activities include restoring natural habitats through native tree and shrub plantings, weed pulls, and mulching projects. Each project contributes to the enhancement of our shared surroundings. With a variety of projects already online, the Oregon Spring Cleanup invites enthusiastic volunteers to contribute to a cleaner, greener, and brighter planet. Art by the Sea Gallery in Bandon honors founding member BY BREE LAUGHLIN The World

Art by the Sea Gallery and Studio hosted a reception to honor their founding member, Jean Stephenson, who is retiring after serving as the gallery’s president for the past 11 years. Stephenson addressed her fellow artists and others who attended the reception on Saturday, March 9. The founding member gave a brief history of her time with the Bandon gallery, and thanked her peers. “All I can say is I have made wonderful friends here that I will have for the rest of my life. And I've so much enjoyed my time,” Stephenson said. “The people here – the artists here – should all be so proud of yourselves. You have

Stephenson attended the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, Alberta. After moving to Oregon, she taught pottery and raku in Langlois. She is also accomplished in other mediums including oils, acrylics, pastels, permanent pigment and collage. Stephenson has taught many classes at Art by the Sea Gallery over the years.
