Two ambulances respond on Oak Street to the scene of a simulated DUI collision in front of Siuslaw High School.

Shortly after arriving for class Oct. 9, individual Siuslaw High School students were pulled from classrooms before their obituary was read to the remaining class. Their cause of death? Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, riding in a vehicle with an intoxicated driver, or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time when a DUI collision occured. Coastbusters walk benefits local patients By TONY REED Siuslaw News

It was perfect weather for walking at Hans Petersen as many pink-clad

walkers completed many laps for the annual Coastbusters walk for breast cancer on Oct. 5. Co founder Sonia Graham said the turnout was about the same but about

100 people registered. Asked how people can contribute after the event, Graham suggested donors go online to coastbusterswalk.org and click the donation button.

While the word Dachshund doesn’t inspire thoughts of race tracks, many wiener dogs came out to the Florence Events Center to show that for their little legs and long bodies, they can be pretty zippy. A total of 25 wiener dogs showed up ready to race at the Florence Events Center Oct. 5 to compete in one of three categories of racers.
