It’s the Tunnel! The route for Last Chance Grade has been selected. District 1 Cal Trans Director Matt Brady has announced the proposed route over the troubled 101, south of Crescent City has been confirmed. The proposed two mile tunnel route labeled Alternative F at an estimated cost of $1.3 billion, has been selected. The announcement was made late Tuesday afternoon at the Yurok Tribal Council Office ribbon cutting of the Hunter/ Panther completed Bridge project, just north of Klamath. Cal Trans projects a completion date for the tunnel for 2038.

“ Be Prepared.” The Del Norte Fire Safe Council has acquired the monster industrial chipper which may very well be situated in your neighborhood in the coming weeks. Thanks to a grant from
the State Coastal Conservancy administered by the Smith River Alliance, the Rock Creek Community Wildfire Resilience Project is underway. The Fire Safe Council and it’s monster chipper will enhance the

Del Norte Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Dean Wilson made a special plea during his Board comments, last week. On the eve of America’s 248th Birthday, the 5th District Supervisor asked the public to keep South Beach clean and pristine following the July 4th Fireworks Show. “Thousands of visitors and locals come to South Beach to enjoy the fireworks from the Crescent City Jetty. The trash aftermath on South Beach July 5th is atrocious,” Wilson asked the public to pick up their trash and pitch it in refuse containers Cal Trans and Del Norte County have provided. Redwoods Parks Conservancy along with Smith River Alliance is asking for volunteers to help clean up the trash
