Pro Trump / Musk rally, across the street near Fairgrounds.
Two countering demonstrations occurred along Highway 101, on the public sidewalk, in front of the Del Norte County Fairground in Crescent City, Saturday. The Hands-Off rally of those opposing President Trump and DOGEist Elon Musk, estimated to be between 250-300 was peaceful but vocal on President Trump and Musk’s policies. There was no violence at this well-planned National protest. Though this event was identified as a Del Norte event, many participants identified themselves as Humboldt, Mendocino, Sonoma, and Bay Area residents from as far away as Santa Cruz. Across the street, on the public sidewalk in front of CVS Pharmacy, a smaller group organized
by the Del Norte Republican Party on short notice, displayed their 1st Amendment right to free speech.

Long-time Lily Grower Preps Up for a Busy Easter Week-end BY ROGER GITLIN Country Media. Inc
Easter Sunday falls on April 20 this year. As they have done for last 45 years, Smith River Lily growers Rob and Kara Miller take a huge sigh of relief after thousands of boxes of Easter Lilies reached their destination for families who celebrate this holiday. The Millers’ Easter Lily farm is Dahlstrom and Watt bulb farm. Indeed, the Easter Lily greenhouse grower and field bulb farmer is just one of the of the depleting roster of Lily growers remaining in Del Norte County; the others are Palmer/ Westbrook and United Lily Growers: the Crockett family. This trio harvests and distributes the bulbs to greenhouses across the United States and Canada to flower for Easter. “80 percent of the lilies in North America and Canada come from the Smith River Valley.
Rob Miller, principal owner of Dahlstrom and Watt Lily Growers. This totals more than $6 million annually,” says Rob Miller. Miller underscored the trials and travails of producing this magnificent product which must be available in the store or greenhouse by Easter
Sunday. The things that can go wrong can fill a telephone book. “It’s what I do,” harkens Miller. “…and it’s tough.” Lilies and Easter have been around Del Norte Please see LILIES, Page 3

Opinion
The story of Passover is recounted in reading from the Haggadah, the ritual account of the Exodus story. The significance of removing of all leaven denotes the rush to exit Egypt and not permitting the bread to rise, creating chametz also known as matzah Two studying-Rabbis from New York, Schmuel and Mendel representing the Chabad from Ashland, stopped by the homes of all
Jews from Gold Beach to Crescent City, to deliver the hand-made Shmurah (round) Matzah and conduct a Phylacteries (Remember the
Law) prayer to those who wished the embracement. Passover concludes April 20. Passover 2025 logo
