Tillamook County youth get early Christmas presents thanks to ‘Shop with a Cop’ promotion COVID Update

Tillamook County Shop with a Cop Celebrates 17 years O n Saturday, December 18th between the hours of 7 a.m. and Noon Tillamook County Law Enforcement officers went shopping for the 17th year at the Tillamook Fred Meyer’s store. The purpose of the Shop with a Cop program is to build an everlasting trust and rapport between the children of the Tillamook County area and Law Enforcement Officers. We are so excited to be able to celebrate this as our 17th year. Over the years we have served so many children in need. We are now serving children whom their parents are past participants. This program was originally started in 1978 by Georgia Schreiner and a police officer in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was designed to give children who have experienced a negative contact with Law Enforcement an opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for themselves and or their family members. This can include being removed from their home, a death investigation and or other unpleasant contacts. It also served to enhance the image of the police in the eyes of these children.
The program has been met with great success in Tillamook County and has since become an annual event with Tillamook Law Enforcement and Fred Meyers. Our goal is to have 45 children ages 4-10 in Tillamook County that will be shopping on Saturday at Fred Meyers. Officers hit that goal and shopped with 46 children in all. Currently each child will receive approximately $100 to shop with. To date we have served over 940 children. You are welcome to make a donation to the program anytime of the year through the Friends of Tillamook Police (non-profit) www. friendsoftillamookpolice.org Saturday’s events started off with a breakfast provided by Fred Meyer’s Deli. This breakfast was be a great “ice breaker” for the officer and the child. After breakfast, the officers and children start shopping. Children shopped for themselves, their brothers, sisters and parents. There are a couple rules and the officers all know what the number one rule is, Have Fun! The Fred Meyer staff is always fantastic and so accommodating during this time.

CARE announces closure of Kilchis House and Nehalem Bay House Joe Warren jwarren@countrymedia.net

fter 25 years of providing care to seniors in Tillamook County, Nehalem Bay House and Kilchis House are closing their doors on or around Feb. 11, 2022 according to CARE Executive Director Peter Starkey. Residents and staff were informed of the planned closures on Monday, Dec. 13. The closures will impact 29 residents at Kilchis House in Tillamook and 26 residents at the Nehalem Bay House. Nehalem Bay and Kilchis House are staples in the Tillamook community and some of the only options for low-income seniors to live and receive care in the area. Starkey said, that the CARE board of directors as well as other community and state leaders have done everything they possible
could, but closing these facilities were the only option at this time due to staffing shortages and financial woes. “CARE began pulling heavily from reserves in July, when Kilchis House ran out of personal savings,” he said. “Nehalem Bay House ran out of money shortly afterwards. We have used about $700,000 of CARE reserves supporting the houses since June and the remaining $300,000 will be depleted by the end of February.”
CARE, Inc., a non-profit organization that has managed the communities since 2012, serves primarily low-income Oregonians. A majority of the residents at these two buildings are on Medicaid. CARE, Inc., cited the workforce shortage and exponential increases in wage and labor costs due to the need to rely upon temporary staffing agencies as the reason for the closures. “CARE held about $1 million in reserves,” Starkey said.”CARE has
been pulling from these reserve funds, money was not diverted from other CARE programs.” This was not an easy decision for CARE leaders, board or staff. “To say that we are devastated to have to close our doors is an understatement,” Starkey said. ”Our residents and staff were overwhelmingly sad when we shared the news of the closures, unfortunately, due to significant workforce

illamook County Health Department reports 28 COVID-19 cases for the weekend case count from Dec. 10-12 and 60 cases for the 7-day case count from Dec. 5-11. “Our 14-day case count is 95 from Nov. 28 through Dec. 12,” Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Ed Colson reported during a community update Tuesday, Dec. 14. “For the month of December, from the 1st through the 12th, we’ve had 88 cases.” There have been 48 COVID-related deaths. Of those, 39 were unvaccinated, eight were fully vaccinated and one had no vaccine record. The health department reported three confirmed outbreaks in Tillamook County. Three cases of omicron were found in Multnomah and Washington counties, Colson said. “The COVID-19 viral test, the nasal swab, detects the presence of the virus in your body, including all variants, but the viral test itself cannot tell you which variant you have, just that you do have the virus or not,” Colson said. Collected samples of swabs are sent to the labs for further testing. This allows scientists to determine which variant is circling a certain area. “Wastewater surveillance has been successfully used for early detection of diseases at a community level and has been previously used in Oregon for identifying emerging variants, including delta,” Colson said. “This method of disease surveillance can generate data that are helpful for informing the total disease burden in a community but is not used to measure the number of affected individuals.” COVID-19 testing is available through the health center at their acute care clinic, located at 2111 8th St. in Tillamook. Hours are 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are required. Call 503-842-3900 to schedule an appointment. “COVID-19 testing is also available with our health care partners Adventist Health and Rinehart Clinic,” Colson said. COVID-19 vaccines are still available at the Tillamook County Fairgrounds Convention Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 1-5 p.m. on Wednesdays. The drop-in clinic will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 22, and Thursday, Dec. 23, for holiday observance. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is no longer available at the clinic. For January,

City Council appeals Sewer Lateral Ordinance after liability concerns Chelsea Yarnell Guest Contributor
Selling a house? Better check your sewer lines. The City of Tillamook Code Book states that property owners are responsible for their sewer lateral lines: “Maintenance shall be performed in such a manner as to prevent infiltration of groundwater into the collection system.” This ordinance has been in existence since the publication of the Code Book in 1977. But in early 2020, City staff began working under the guidance of a new ordinance to capture and enforce compliance of the sewer lateral lines at the point of sale when a property is sold or exchanged. “This ordinance essentially created an inspection and compliance program that regulated the sewer lateral lines by requiring a video to be submitted to the City and then reviewed for compliance,” Tillamook City Manager Nathan George wrote in a letter addressed to the Tillamook City Council. “The City has the authority to reject any video submission and require that the property owner perform new or additional work if deemed as necessary. This
shortages, insufficient Medicaid reimbursement rates, and the need for expensive temporary agency staff, our cash reserves are drained, and we simply can’t afford to stay open much longer.” Starkey said, he and the board have been working with all vested partners to see what could be done to keep the facilities open since last Spring. “CARE has been discussing the budget shortfalls of Medicaid and state/federal funding since April, when we published it in our newsletter, and advocated during the budget development for increases to Medicaid rates,” he said. “When CARE began taking from its reserves we reached out to local elected
was presented to Tillamook City Council, discussed at multiple meetings, and eventually it was adopted as an ordinance in December of 2020.” At their Dec. 6, 2021 meeting, George addressed the Council with his concerns over the liability of the year-old ordinance. “The ordinance never went through our attorneys,” George said. “I think the City has some serious liability issues.” In George’s letter to the Council, he details the he “learned that this ordinance was not reviewed by legal staff before its adoption in 2020. Not having legal documents reviewed by the City’s Legal Counsel has been a frequent occurrence over the past at least 10 years. Upon discussion with the City Attorney, I learned that this ordinance is far more restrictive than any known ordinance of any City in the State of Oregon, and that it has many serious liability issues for the City of Tillamook. One of these liability issues, is the fact that the City doesn’t employ any licensed plumbers yet is overturning the decisions of licensed plumbers.” In addition to liability, George described that the ordinance has created sig-
nificant frustration from the community. “City staff and City Councilors, have received a significant number of complaints and concerns,” George wrote. “The first vocal complaint was that of a citizen and realtor who came to a Council meeting earlier this year and expressed grave concern.” In response, City staff began meeting with realtors, property owners, and others with a vested interest in this ordinance. “City staff also met many times internally to discuss the origins of this ordinance,” George wrote. “The City’s goal is compliance to save money and resources for treating stormwater. The goals of property owners and realtors is to also have compliance, but in a streamlined and what they consider equitable manner. I have always believed both goals can be met, and to that end the City has been working on these concerns of this situation.” Upon review of the 1977 City Code, it shows that the City has the authority to test sewer lateral lines and ensure compliance. “Code Enforcement in the past was done on a complaint only basis, and in a mediocre manner at best,”
George wrote. “In the past 10 months, the City has worked to put in place the structure and methods to ensure compliance proactively with all code enforcement issues.” George informed the Council that smoke testing of the sewer lines will be complete in June/July 2022 and property owners requiring repairs will be receiving letters in the mail. However, George and City Staff recommended to the City Council that the 2020 ordinance be rescinded “as soon as possible.” “The City [should] work on putting better processes in place on the operational side of the City,” George wrote. “It will also allow time to look at better ways of strengthening the current ordinance and creating a stronger basis for compliance. City staff will, of course, work closely with legal staff to ensure that the City is putting together a robust and legally sound course of action.” Councilor John Sandusky began the motion to remove the ordinance and direct City Staff at Public Works to not enforce the ordinance until it goes through the correct legal process. The motion passed unanimously on Dec. 6.

Starting in August I (Starkey) began speaking at community meetings, the radio, and community partners about the possibility of closure.” Starkey said the board even hired a consulting firm to help with the situation, look over how the money has been spent and offer solutions. “The board retained a financial consultant in November to do a deep analysis of CARE’s cash flow and financial management,” Starkey said. “The hiring of this consultant was with the intent of finding a way to continue operations.” In the end the consultant agreed with the board’s action, offered some guidance, but nothing that would keep the facilities open. “After a careful review of the cash flow and financial management, the consultant concluded that CARE management had done everything possible to reduce costs,” Starkey said. “The financial consultant presented the board with 10 scenarios, and none of them displayed a path to financial sustainability for the assisted living facilities, there was no option to ensure that CARE had the cash flow to operate the facilities as assisted living.”

Peter Starkey, Executive Director of CARE, Inc., and Desiree Hansen, Operations Specialist with Vanda Health, will be overseeing placements for each resident. They will work in partnership with local healthcare providers, case managers, the State Medicaid office, the State Long Term Care Ombudsman Office, Aging and Disability Services, NW Senior and Disability Services, Adult Protective Services, Oregon Department Human Services, and the Oregon Health Care Association (OHCA) to ensure appropriate placement. Residents will have access to case managers and mental health supports throughout the transition process. Starkey said he is unsure what will become of the two facilities after they close down, his time, staff and partners’ time will be placing the residents in homes. “Right now we are focused on our residents,” Starkey added. “We will be exploring options for repurposing the facilities to continue being a community benefit.” Starkey said he believes this trend will be a bigger problem around Oregon and the country. “In every county across Oregon facilities are fighting to remain open,” he said.
“Across the country we are seeing this trend, CARE may be one of the first but we will not be the last if there is not decisive and urgent action from our state and federal government,” he said. “We are on the cusp of a collapse in long term care and the healthcare system. It starts with our poor, our elderly, and our rural communities.”

People should avoid using shared utensils, plates and glasses. Continue to wash your hands frequently and wear a mask indoors. There were restrictions due to the pandemic: Attendance was limited in number and only for the vaccinated. About 25 individuals attended. We wore masks except when eating and drinking. Capt. Pete and I wore red-and-white Mr. and Mrs. Claus masks that I bought last year. Never in my wildest dreams would I have anticipated using those
more than once; by this year, I thought they would simply be old decorations on our tree. Still, we all had a great time, sharing delicious hors d’oeuvres and our own holiday drinks. We thank the Cape Meares Community Association’s Social Committee for their hard work in putting on this cheery event, despite the COVID obstacles with which they had to deal. We may still be wearing masks in public indoor settings, but at least we are able to get together unmasked with friends and family members

I am delighted to report that I won both games of Scrabble this month, perhaps for the first time in all these years (full disclosure: Merrie wins most of our Scrabble competitions). More than a decade of fun and friendship; thanks, Jon and Merrie. I went out on the beach following some big winds the other day. In fact, the winds were still blowing at doubledigit speeds when I was out there. I was looking for beach treasures, but what I found instead was a quartet of hardy outdoorsmen. Two were surfing on that stormy day, and two were fishing for surf
perch. Go figure. Hey, hey, hey, slow down out there! We know dogs are supposed to be on leashes and pedestrians are supposed to face the traffic, but with our potholes, puddles and lack of sidewalks, sometimes folks meander. Please drive carefully, be considerate of your neighbors and speak kindly. And, lastly, watch out for wildlife. Elk and deer are fellow travelers on the roads in our village and deserve respect as well. T
he fall term for TBCC has just ended. It has been challenging with the emphasis on keeping faculty, staff, and students safe through the continuing pandemic. It has all of us, including students, pretty exhausted. Yet, the college had a successful term as far as overall enrollments and being able to help students to finish up the term successfully. Overall, we were up 2% in full-time equivalent students for the term compared to last fall, and up 1% compared to fall 2019, prior to the beginning of the pandemic. This positive trend is definitely different from almost all of the community colleges in Oregon, and most throughout the country. Some of you may have seen a recent front page article in the Oregonian about the declines in community college enrollments throughout the state, even showing TBCC with large declines. The story was somewhat misleading
since it gave numbers based on total headcount at each college, which includes all of the community education classes that are not for credit and are typical for personal enrichment. This is where most of the loss occurred at the colleges since the vast majority of these classes need to be in person, which has not been possible through much of the pandemic. But this does not include the students that are working toward a degree or certificate. Looking at those numbers, TBCC is actually up during the pandemic. Most of the other colleges in Oregon did lose a great deal of enrollments even in this area. One
of the reasons we feel this did not happen at TBCC is because we stayed open throughout this pandemic, offering many face- to-face classes as well as online classes. Now we even have Hy-flex classes, which include face to face, online, and remote classes on Zoom all in the same class, so students can choose the mode that works best for them for any class period. This flexibility has really helped our students. As mentioned in a previous TBCC Connections, TBCC is beginning the process to develop a new strategic plan that will carry the college forward for the next seven years. Over the coming several months, we will be asking community members to provide us with feedback, input, and ideas on where you feel TBCC should be headed in the next seven years, what programs we should offer, and how we can best serve Tillamook County residents. We will do this through an online survey,

those regions, but also in a way that brings the county together as a whole. I see a time when all of our communities and local businesses can work together to make ideas come time life. A time when local government is truly investing in building stronger communities where businesses can thrive. This is my vision for a countywide Chamber. There have been and will continue to be conversations of how to make it happen. Some will disagree and some will root us on – at the end of the day, I believe it is going to happen, and we have spent enough time on the vision that it will be a game changer for our county when it does. Next, I want you to imagine our community with a non-profit resource that can help build community by bringing the passions of local residents and businesses to life. That is us, now — sort of. For the past several years I have held on to the vision of a community foundation, a foundation that is there for the community and not any one direct cause or organization. In 2021 the Chamber board of directors moved it to a priority project

While it’s not 100% accurate, it is reflective of the programs and stability of the Chamber. What they — and many people looking in — don’t see is that most everything started out with having a vision and a hope. Some of those visions have taken years to bring to life, so naturally when they unfold, they do so in a thoughtful and successful way. How could it not when you have spent years thinking of the positive and negatives of every move? Moving in to 2022 soon, I thought it would be fun to talk about a couple ideas that are in that visioning stage. These are ideas that are in various stages but, nonetheless, I have no doubt will happen. Imagine this with me a countywide Chamber of Commerce. Sure, we have programs that support businesses throughout Tillamook County, and we never shy away from opportunities to help. In fact, 30% of our membership is outside of the City of Tillamook. Here is what I mean by a true countywide chamber. I envision a time when we have the resources to fund active staff positions in north, mid, central and south county. Those staff members can build each community’s capacity in the ways that are both unique to
in our strategic plan and approved funding to get it started. I wasted no time and am proud to let you know today that we have successfully established the Tillamook Chamber Community Foundation, a 501(c)3 public charity organization. This new non-profit is tied to the Chamber and will be staffed by the Chamber staff, but it has at-large board members and will have the flexibility for a much broader community focus. I am excited about the opportunities this provides for not only outside grant funding coming to our community, but also the opportunity for our citizens and businesses to be able to make a tax-deductible financial pledge towards project that they feel strongly about. We are now entering the planning phases with community partners of exactly what our first initiatives look like, but I assure you there are some great things coming and I look forward to announcing that in the coming months. As the saying goes, the sum is only as good as it parts. That hold triggers a message to the librarian in Pacific City to pull it off the shelf and send it in transit to Tillamook for you to pick up. Holds are filled in a chronological order, so the amount of time you wait for that hold depends entirely on how many people are ahead of you on the “hold list” for that item. Virtual Branch. I am sure you are aware that we have physical branches in Manzanita, Rockaway, Garibaldi, Bay City, Tillamook, and Pacific City. But where is our virtual branch? It is on your computer! Virtual branch is a term we use to represent all of the online material we have available for your perusal. You can virtually visit this library without ever setting foot outside your door, as long as you have the internet at home and a device to view it on. If you have not poked around on our website to look at the enormous amount of online services we offer, you are missing out! It would take this entire newspaper page to list everything available inside our virtual branch. There are encyclopedias, newspapers, magazines, movies, music, and so much more. We also call these resources databases, which I will define below. Databases. A dictionary would define a database as a structured set of information held in a computer. In
lay terms, you could define it as a whole bunch of good stuff that you can freely enjoy just for fun, or use it to write school reports, or help to grow your business, or... the sky is the limit! As far as serious, technical research goes, databases are your best source to find fact-checked, authoritative documents that you can quote and trust. Databases are always much better sources than just doing a Google search. Also, when you hear us talk about Hoopla, Kanopy, Library2Go, Flipster, etc., these are also a type of database that allow you to download e-books, movies, magazines, audio books, and so much more. You can even learn a foreign language on the Mango Languages program. I have not even begun to scratch the depth of what our databases have to offer you, so please, go check them out on our website. ILL. No, that doesn’t mean we are sick! So, what is an ILL? That is library jargon for interlibrary loan. Where this comes in handy is if we do not have the library item you are looking for, and we cannot buy it, we can go online and find a library that does have it. We then request that they loan that item to us so that we can check it out to you! We have requested items from libraries across the country for our patrons...and we reciprocate by loaning our materials to libraries looking for something we have. That is probably enough explaining for now. If you hear us use other terms you don’t understand, PLEASE do not hesitate to ask your librarian. Ho Ho! On Tuesday the 21st at 7:00 PM the Bay City United Methodist Church will hold their “Longest Night” service. This service is offered for those who have suffered loss of any kind. I asked Pastor Dave Hurd to share the true meaning of this beautiful service: “The ‘Longest Night’ is a service that acknowledges that not everyone feels happy through the holidays. Many are dealing with grief, depression, unemployment, illness or anxiety. This service tells the Christmas story to offer hope for those who are struggling in times of darkness, and is open to all”. The church’s traditional Christmas eve service is on Friday the 24th at 7:00 PM. Can you think of a better way to quiet your soul and center your thoughts? For the safety of

Italy where he was grievously wounded. He went on to serve 36 years in congress. and was a presidential candidate. But to the VFW he was a 55-year life-member who, quoting VFW National Commander Fritz Mihelcic, “cared deeply about the health and wellbeing of those who have, and are, wearing the uniform of our country and their families”. And the answer is always the same every year: To spend time with Kin, holding his hand; To spend time with our grandbabies, who are now young adults, but when opening their gifts sound the same as when they believed in Santa; To spend time with my daughter Marilyn Jo, as she sings her Christmas favorites, and with her husband Lee, who smiles with pride when she sings; Spending time thinking of our son Matt, and feeling Kin holding my hand tighter, because he’s thinking of him too; Spending time in prayer, thanking God for his Son, the Christ Child. Yes, there is a message to what I’m trying to say; It’s not Christmas decorations, food, or presents, enjoyable as they are, but it’s the time spent in the presence of those you love most. OBITUARIES Kurt ‘Air’ John Luft July 28, 1956 - Oct. 18, 2021
O
n Monday, October 18, 2021, Kurt “Air” John Luft passed away peacefully at home while his wife Wanti and his stepson Harrison were holding his hand. He is survived by his wife Wanti Luft, five step-children, four grandchildren, his sisters (Lorelai, Judy and Lisa), and his brothers (Karl and Mark). Born July 28, 1956, in Fresno, California, Kurt was a loving husband, brother, brother-in-law, stepfather, uncle, great-uncle, and friend in his 65 years. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Fresno State University and worked as a manager at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. Kurt had a passion for hang gliding that started at a very young age, giving him a spectacular view from above. He once flew his hang glider in Yosemite, along the Eastern Sierras from Bishop California to Mount Whitney, landing south of Lone Pine and flying over 60 miles. He enjoyed hang gliding over
the coast and mountains of California. Kurt loved adventurous traveling to many different countries; tasting different foods, meeting different people and exploring these places with a deep appreciation of them. He complimented people for the beautiful, clever or delicious things they offer in this world. An animal lover, Kurt raised chickens as pets while also enjoying the eggs and always was a dog lover. He was passionate about EVERYTHING outdoors: the beach, gardening, bicycling, crabbing, sightseeing, and hiking. Nature is the reason he and his wife moved to beautiful Netarts, Oregon, where they enjoyed the forest and the beach surrounding their home. Kurt’s kindness will be remembered by his wife, step-children, friends, and family. He was generous with his time, words of wisdom, and help. Kurt was an adventurer and a trailblazer, and very brave; he was not afraid of anything (as was evident by his marrying a woman with five children). Kurt was always seeking better health, between eating a good diet and getting out of the house to be active and have fun. Kurt was strong minded, yet open to new ideas; always finding something positive to say. He loved making people smile.

nne Couch Turner died in her home surrounded by the people and dogs who lover her dearly. She was grateful that her last wishes were fulfilled. Anne was well known for welcoming smile and infectious attitude. She loved helping people, from hemming Warren’s pants to answering phones for many years for Toy n Joy. Anne loved to travel and was lucky enough to have the opportunity to enjoy many memorable experiences. June 1987 Anne and her husband Don went on a tour of Russia. Russia was newly opened up to tourism. During her tour her bus drove through Chernobyl and experienced the echoing quiet from the empty buildings. There was laundry still hanging from clotheslines. She said she ate Borscht with every meal. One of the interesting things they saw was a Vodka vending machine outside a small grocery store. Anne and her husband were very active in HACO (Historical Automobile Club) The owned and restored a

One of thousands in attendance at the Jan. 6th Trump Rally, Richard Esterman, watched from his hotel room, the deadly events at the Capital unfold. He questions the role media has taken. In his newly released third book, “When I Was Your Age”, a person was innocent until proven guilty. Over the years he’s found himself repeating the wise words of his father… “When I was your age” in hopes that others would begin to think for themselves. As a professional photographer, Easterman knows the power pictures can have in telling a story. Hoping to appeal to a broad audi-
ence, Easterman got creative. “By using animation, simple caricature and talking bubbles, I hope I can get my message across to people. Don’t take everything at face value,” Easterman said. Easterman received an email from a mother that said her nine-year-old daughter couldn’t stop asking questions after reading his book. He hopes this is just the beginning and more people of all ages will start asking, “WHY”? Recognized for its virtuosity, exuberant performance style, and often-daring repertory choices, over the past two decades the Pacifica Quartet has achieved international recognition as one of the finest chamber ensembles performing today. Named the quartet-in-residence at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music in March 2012, the Pacifica was previously the quartet-in-residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and received a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance. In 2017, the Pacifica Quartet was appointed to lead the Center for Advanced Quartet Studies at the Aspen Music Festival and School. Formed in 1994, the Pacifica Quartet quickly won chamber music’s top competitions, including the 1998 Naumburg Chamber Music Award. In 2002 the ensemble was honored with Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award and the appointment to Lincoln Center’s CMS Two, and in 2006 was awarded a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. Also in 2006 the Quartet was featured on the cover of Gramophone and heralded as one of “five new quartets you should know about,” the only American quartet to make the list. And in 2009, the Quartet was named “Ensemble of the Year” by Musical America. The Pacifica Quartet has carved a niche for itself as the preeminent interpreter of string quartet cycles, harnessing the group’s singular focus and incredible stamina to portray each composer’s evolution, often over the course of just a few days. The Quartet has been widely praised for these cycles, with critics calling the concerts “brilliant,” “astonishing,” “gripping,” and “breathtaking.” The Pacifica Quartet will return to the NCRD Performing Arts Center in Nehalem on Saturday January 8 at 7 pm. This will be their second appearance at NCRD.

A five-year levy provides sustained funding for managing a program that makes available direct disability compensation or pension benefits to 712 veterans. It is estimated that the $.07 per $1000 assessed value will raise $346,700 in 2022-23, $357,100 in 2023-24, $367,800 in 2024-25, $378,800 in 2025-26 and $390,100 in 202627. The estimated tax cost for this measure is an ESTIMATE ONLY based on the best information available from the county assessor at the time of estimate and may reflect the impact of early payment discounts, compression and the collection rate. The cost of the serial levy for a person owning a home valued at $200,000 would be $14.00 annually. The serial levy provides the Veteran’s Service Office funding for three full-time Veterans’ Benefits Counselors and a full time office specialist.
