Tillamook County hit with first flood of season Single shot fired inside travel trailer, woman arrested “Tillamook County emergency responders have been very busy,” said Tillamook County Sheriff Joshua Brown. “Early this morning (Friday) a major rescue operation was undertaken at the Neskowin RV Park in south County.” Before daylight, Nestucca Fire Chief Jim Oeder was returning from a flooding assist call up off of Slab Creek Road when something caught his eye. “As I was driving by the (Neskowin) RV Park something looked funny,” said Oeder. “I could tell the driveway was already flooded.” The chief investigated and learned many of the park residents and guests had already started to self-evacuate and were moving trailers and vehicles to higher ground. He immediately began making calls for assistance from other emergency agencies. “More than 50 residents of this park were becoming completely isolated due to rising flood waters,” said Sheriff Brown. “Boats from Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office were brought in, but due to conditions and hazards, they were unable to successfully deploy.” Emergency responders did learn of an old dirt road meant for evacuation leading into the park. Rescuers used trucks and the TCSO UTV to evacuate residents and emergency personnel that had gotten trapped by water while assisting people. “After we exhausted all of our capabilities, I asked for air assets from the US Coast Guard,” said Oeder, whom by now was the designated incident commander of the rescue operation. “They sent

Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office photo of Neskowin RV Park flooded Friday Nov. 12. two helicopters - a Dolphin out of Newport and a Jayhawk out of Astoria.” The Coast Guard helicopters were able to land on higher ground near the RV park’s basketball courts and pick up evacuees. “They made four landings before water covered their landing zone. They rescued 12 people,” said Oeder. “At this point, no one else wanted to be evacuated out of the park, and with the loss of the landing zone, we ceased air operations.” Nestucca Valley School District provided buses and the elementary school for transportation and housing of evacuees. Tillamook Transportation also provided a bus and Cloverdale Veterinarian Clinic provided animal carriers for pets. “In other parts of Tillamook County, there were travel trailers seen floating down the Trask River, and numerous roadways were closed,” said Brown. “Hwy 101

from Rosenberg Builder Supply to Fred Meyer was closed, flooding at Misty River RV park on the Wilson River prompted evacuations, and many roads throughout the county have water over the roadway and could soon be closed due to flooding.” Weather reports indicate that rain will be continuing at least through Monday, and with high tides, more flooding is anticipated. “You can expect flooding on normally flood-affected roads, and also those that flood during King or High tide events,” said Oeder. “Stay off the roads that flood, and if you don’t need to go anywhere, please stay home.” TCSO also wants to remind you that flooded roads are even harder to see at night - and even a few inches of water across a roadway can stall a vehicle or cause it to float into dangerous current. TCSO is proud of the partner-

ships with all of the first responder agencies, individuals and businesses in our community that come together to help those when there is a need. “It doesn’t even surprise me anymore,” said Brown. “When people in Tillamook County are in need of assistance in events like this, everyone comes together.” TCSO will be bringing more stories and information regarding this flooding event when possible and we will strive to highlight those people that stepped up when it was needed most. “This type of incident shows how well we all work together and how we come together to give the best response possible for those needing it,” said Oeder. No major injuries were reported today due to the flooding. OSP, ODOT and Tillamook Ambulance also responded to the Neskowin RV Park incident.

Seattle women rescued from Cape Meares Lake after car hydroplaned into water

ate Friday evening after visiting family and friends in Cape Meares, Seattle area resident, Donelle Bart, braved the elements to return to her hotel in Tillamook where she was staying for the weekend. When she hit some standing water on the road, she said her vehicle started to hydroplane and ended up in Cape Meares Lake. As Joel Baker, a resident of Cape Meares was traveling into his business, Kitty’s Restaurant and Lounge to help with closing procedures, he saw the vehicle and called 911. According to Bart, she also called her friends from her sinking vehicle and Rachel Beard and Benjamin Fistch responded quickly, living close to where Bart crashed. Fistch grabbed an air mattress and he and Beard swam out to the vehicle prior to emergency crews arrival and rescued the women. TCSO Report

Saturday morning, the TCSO Dive team and Marine Patrol were able to locate and remove a car that had driven into Cape Meares Lake on Thursday night. No one was injured and the single occupant/driver was assisted from the car by witnesses of the crash. “Apparently the car hydroplaned in deep water on the road, and entered the lake,” said Deputy Billy Cloud, TCSO SAR coordinator and dive team member. “We had hoped to dive on it yesterday but was unable to due to the flooding operations in the county.” Dive team members Cloud and Deputy Chris Barnett were aided by Marine Deputies Dennis Greiner and Kelly Awe. After divers attached the cable, the vehicle was pulled from the water and towed from the scene by Menefee’s Towing.

HWY 101 in Tillamook flooded and road crews had to close Main Street in Tillamook from 1st Street to Wilson River Loop Road Friday morning as water rose across the road. Wilson River Loop Road was also beginning to flood and flaggers directed traffic to one lane. HYW 6 heading east out of Tillamook also flooded and closed, crews redirected those traveling out of town to use 3rd Street. According to a ODOT spokesperson on the scene, the worst of the flood was around 10 a.m. when the rivers overflowed, drivers were told to expect road closures until later in the afternoon when high water subsided. Weather conditions call for awareness of potential hazards

Oregon’s Office of Emergency Management advised residents last week to be aware – and prepared – for potential hazards due to heavy rains forecasted across the state. According to the National Weather Service, expected rainfall amounts from 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, through Friday, Nov. 12, caused potential flooding of creeks and rivers in northwest Oregon, especially along the coastal terrain and Cascades. Rain amounts were possibly high enough to cause flooding Thursday and Friday. Heavy rain can trigger debris flows and landslides in steep terrain, and the risk is higher in wildfire burn areas. There is potential for debris flows in the burned areas of the Cascades, including the Riverside, Beachie Creek and Lionshead fire sites. Eagle Creek and Holiday Farm fire areas may also be potentially impacted. The public can remain safe using basic preparedness actions, including staying informed, being aware of surroundings, having a plan for emergencies and being prepared with an emergency kit.

illamook County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies and officers from Tillamook Police Department (TPD) and Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to a report of shots fired at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, in the 100-block area of Bluebird Lane in Tillamook. According to TCSO, as the investigation unfolded, the Reverse 911 system was activated to alert neighbors of the shots fired investigation, and to ask them to stay indoors. When the incident had de-escalated, Reverse 911 alerted neighbors that there was no further reason to stay indoors. It was determined that a single shot was fired inside of a travel trailer. TCSO detectives arrested a 64year woman around 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, on several charges related to the discharge of a handgun. The woman was booked into Tillamook County Jail on the following alleged charges: attempted second degree assault, fourth degree assault, menacing, unlawful use of a firearm, pointing a firearm at another person and reckless endangering. Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to the Herald Friday, Nov. 12, the woman arrested was Kathy Fields Haron. This investigation is ongoing, TCSO reported. A .357 magnum handgun was recovered. No injuries were reported.

Fatal crash reported on Hwy 101 O

regon State Police (OSP) responded to the report of a single-vehicle crash that occurred at 4 a.m. Nov. 7 on US Hwy 101 near milepost 60 near Tillamook. According to OSP, a preliminary investigation revealed a silver Subaru Impreza, operated by Anthony Ronald Cuarteros of Portland, was northbound in wet weather conditions when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle drove off the northbound shoulder into a deep drainage ditch. The vehicle continued in the drainage ditch for more than 200 feet, crossing over two raised driveway entries, until it came to an uncontrolled rest in the ditch directly in front of the Tillamook Country Smoker Factory Outlet Store. Anthony Cuarteros sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The passenger, Janette Gaudalupe Medina of Portland, was pronounced dead at the scene. Passengers Alexander Bradley Cuarteros of Portland and Damon Kyle Cornwell of Beaverton were treated at the hospital for minor injuries. US Highway 101 was closed for approximately five hours. OSP was assisted by Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, Tillamook Police Department, Tillamook Fire and Rescue, Bay City Fire Department, and ODOT Incident Response.

COVID-19 update: Walk-in vaccine clinic moves to 4-H dorms Hilary Dorsey Staff Writer

Tillamook County had 29 COVID-19 cases over the weekend from Nov. 5 through Nov. 7 and 62 cases for the 7-day case count from Oct. 31 through Nov. 6, Tillamook County Health Department reported. “Cases to date since the start of November have been 69,” Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Ed Colson reported during a Tillamook County Board of Commissioners meeting Wednesday, Nov. 10. “The pandemic case total was 2,074, going all the way back to March 2020.” There have been 42 COVID-related deaths in the county, with 35 of those individuals unvaccinated, one with no vaccine record and six fully vaccinated. The three most recent deaths were from August and September. Tillamook County has one confirmed outbreak and nine pending investigation. As of press time, Oregon Health Authority had not updated the workplace outbreaks for the week of Nov. 10. The

Vaccines are also available at Adventist Health Tillamook, Rinehart Clinic and local pharmacies. “We always strongly encourage people to continue following COVID-19 precautions, following the mask requirements, six feet of distance from those not in your immediate household and wash your hands frequently and take an opportunity, if you haven’t, to get the COVID-19 vaccine,” Colson said. Booster doses are avail-

able for those eligible. Those who were vaccinated with the Pfizer of Moderna vaccine and are eligible for a booster shot six months after their second shot include people 65 years and older, people living in a long-term care facility, people 50-64 with underlying medical conditions, and people ages 18-64 with underlying medical conditions or who are at a higher risk of exposure due to where they live or work. Booster shots for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are available for those who received a shot two months ago and are 18 years and older. Those eligible for a booster may receive either the same or a different COVID-19 vaccine as a booster dose, depending on advice from a health care provider, individual preference and availability. Pediatric doses for those ages 5-11 of the Pfizer vaccine are available at the walkin clinic, as well as through health care providers.

e were taking a walk on the beach the other day when we ran into neighbor Kristi Ostroff. She had a rather shocked look on her face and told us, “I just saw a dead owl on the beach! I’ve never seen an owl on the beach before.” We hadn’t, either, so we marched down the beach to take a look at it. It was at the edge of the surf, in danger of being swept out to sea, but we managed to take a few pictures of it. It was a small, mostly brown owl with yellow feet. Pete, who is a birder as well as the captain of our wooden drift boat, said he would look it up in his reference books at home. On our way back up the beach, we ran into another neighbor, Kevin Burke. We told him about the owl and he said, “Second one in a month!” Now we were really wondering what was going

on. Back home, Pete checked his reference books and determined that the owl was a barred owl. These owls are uncommon in our area. Although we cannot know for certain, it could be that this one met its death at the claws of an eagle; Kristi saw an eagle flying overhead when she first spotted the owl. You never know what to expect along the ocean. I heard that up the coast, a couple of sea turtles, usually

found only in warm waters, had beached and were rescued by aquarium personnel. Many thanks to Tillamook Public Works! A road crew was busy trimming back trees overhanging Bayocean Road right ahead of a big rain and wind storm, plus they quickly responded to a request to fill giant potholes on 3rd St. NW. We appreciate all the road folks do for us. Speaking of roads, Cape Meares resident Bob Garrigues has been a member of the County Road Advisory Committee (CRAC) for over a decade. He brought to my attention the fact that our village has seen great benefit from the last road bond. We have had paving on Bayocean Road and 4th St/Pacific Ave. to the ocean. We’ve also had some streets graveled, with leftover gravel used to fill potholes. That bond is also paying for the county match

required in the new Loop Road $24 million project (the Road Dept. has $2.2 million invested in the realignment). There is a project on the books to make drainage improvements to the beach parking lot; the Road Dept. is looking to secure a contractor for that. Last but not least, the Road Dept. annually stages a backhoe at Memaloose to quickly respond to slides. Bob encourages us to vote for future funding to maintain and improve roads throughout Tillamook County. Capt. Pete and I wrapped up our fall salmon season on Halloween. We brought home a mean-looking buck Chinook that weighed 21 pounds, and he topped off our freezer. Now we’re ready for our five adult children, their spouses, and 14 grandchildren to visit—but hopefully not all at the same time.

are reading a Stephen King book or some other thriller! The tension you feel reading a book that is keeping you on the edge of your seat normally gets resolved in the end, so it won’t leave you hyped-up when you finish. But most books are a gateway into a mind escape, where you can immerse yourself in a story that often takes away the anxiety that daily life and work can bring. It gives your brain something else to think about and if you have a really good book to read, you will find yourself looking forward to the time when you can sit, relax, and just read. My second reason to read is it allows you to escape to locations you have never visited...or, it can also allow you to revisit places you are familiar with. I just read a great story that took place in Paris and I just loved hearing all the details about the cafes, the art galleries, and the hilly cobblestone streets of Montmartre. Having been there myself decades ago, the book brought back such wonderful details that I probably never would have thought of again had it not been for the author’s descriptions. I also recently finished a dramatic

book that took place in the Russian Ural Mountains...a place I will surely never visit, and now I don’t have to because I have experienced it in my reading. A third reason to read is it can boost your empathy for people who are different from ourselves. I particularly love a good biography for this sort of insight into what it is like inside another person’s head. I have learned so much about different races, countries, customs, and beliefs that I never would have realized on my own. Reading is also a great mood booster, and it does wonders for your imagination. Finishing a book provides a feeling of accomplishment and gets my brain in a space that is so different than my real-world obligations. Reading has become my “happy time”. Lastly, reading does amazing things for your “noggin”. As we age, our brains need this stimulation to stay healthy. Engaging in a book not only helps you improve your memory skills and empathy, but research has shown that it makes us feel better and more positive about life in general. Not only that, but reading has been proven to help with depression and reduce the chances of developing Alzheimer’s later in life. In conclusion, what we have here is a win-win situation! Now all that is left is to get out the scissors, snip out this column, and get it into the hands of someone you know who could benefit from an escape into a book.

The Tillamook County Courthouse has reopened to the public. The Tillamook County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday, Nov. 9, to open the courthouse so people can come in without an appointment. Commission Chair Mary Faith Bell said masks are required indoors at all times, as well as social distancing. “The libraries are open,”

Bell said. “People are very excited about that.” People can now browse for longer than the previous 15-minute allotments. Vice-Chair David Yamamoto said community development will be open but due to limited staff, people should make appointments if they can. If going without an appointment, employees will try to take care of you as they have people available. The commissioners’ board meeting room is limited in capacity. There is room for

OBITUARIES William ‘Bill’ Loughlin

o know someone is to get to understand them. Bill was a difficult man to understand, but those that tried became his friend. Having served in the Army, he lived his aspirations watching every military movie he could. He loved the past, music of the Rat Pack and the old movies most of us have forgotten. He was a successful retail manager for Fred Meyer in Montana, Albertsons in Salt

Lake City, and Safeway in Tillamook, Oregon. His work demonstrated pride beyond expectations. After a struggle with cancer, he can now be at peace, taking solace with his parents and his brothers Michael and Kevin. As the last living brother, Bill leaves behind his sisters, Stephanie Mackinnon, Katie Angerman, and Maura Hatch. He was a generous gentleman with a lucky streak for winning at poker. His life was cut short, hopefully now he can do the fishing he wanted so badly to do. Bill, “We’ll be seeing you in all those familiar places”, because “the best is yet to come!” “And now the end is here, you face the final curtain,” but you did it your way! So next time you see Bill let us know if he greets you with a Fireball or an ice cold beer! Bill is being laid to rest in Ronan Montana.

obert Dale McVay, 90 died at home in Albany, Oregon on November 6, 2021, surrounded by his family. Bob was born on October 29, 1931 to Leslie and Luella McVay. He is survived by sons Raymond Dale, Ronald Dean, Michael and Kim all of Washington State. He also leaves behind son Scott of Oregon. In addition, he is survived by step-children, Cindy, Tami and David and numerous grandchildren and great-

grandchildren. Bob is also survived by brothers Leslie of Roseburg, Ken (Joyce) of Troutdale, Judy (Mel) Abrew of Manceca, CA and Patty McVay of Salem. Bob was preceded in death by sons Danny and Mark, parents Lelslie and Luella, brothers Donald James, Richard Dean and David Leroy. No funeral will be held; however a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Walter “Wally” John, 77 1944- Oct. 16, 2021

ally was born in June 1944 in Hays, Kansas to Walter W. and Elmira Opal Snyder John. He was the oldest of 4 children, at the age of 5, the family moved to Roseville, Ca. Later moving to a ranch in Loomis Ca. He was in the first class to graduate from Del Oro High School in 1964. He was accepted to attend the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT to become an officer. Wally spent 23 years in the Coast Guard, 8 of those years were at sea. He started his career on an ice breaker in Antarctica, spending the remaining years at several ports from Alaska to southern California. After retirement Wally moved to Beaver, Or. to be closer to his mother, Opal John and his sister, Saundra

White and family. While in Tillamook County he was activity involved in Master Gardeners and Outdoor School (Go-4, was his camp name). In 1995 Wally and Opal moved to Astoria, where he continued his love of gardening with the Clatsop Co. Master Gardeners. He also loved to go fishing, clamming, and camping with several friends from the academy. Wally passed away on October 16, 2021, due to covid related complications. He is survived by his sister Saundra White and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. He is predeceased in death by his baby brother, Steven William John, his sister, Judy Carol Evens, his mother, Opal John, his father, Walter John. There is a celebration of life service planned for Wally on November 20, 2021, 1 pm at Camp Merriweather Boy Scout Camp, Sandlake OR. Wally wanted to be buried at sea, the Coast Guard will preform this at a later date. His desire was that no matter what beach we visited, he would be there.

onna passed away on Saturday the 6th of November after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 12th, 1961 to Harrie and Goldie Tarr. She had one brother, John Tarr and one sister Barbara Tarr. She was a graduate

of Tillamook High School and married Michael Blaser in 1980. They had two sons, Michael and Matt Blaser and had one granddaughter, Haley Blaser. After her divorce she worked at various housekeeping jobs and enjoyed walking along the roads picking up cans. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life. She was preceded in death by her mother Goldie in 2003. She leaves behind many friends, uncles, aunts and cousins. No service is planned at this time. Arrangements in care of Waud’s Funeral Home.

OBITUARIES Claire Peterson 1924 - Oct. 31, 2021

laire Peterson died peacefully at her home in Tillamook, Oregon on Oct. 31, 2021 at the age of 97. Emma Claire Lindley was born to Troy and Roberta Lindley in Washington State, where she grew up on the family wheat ranch. She was born the second eldest of five children and is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Dean, Marjorie, Robert, and Barbara. She preferred, and went by, her middle name Claire, because in her words, “Emma was a name of old ladies when I was a little girl. In fact, I was named after a great aunt and so I didn’t want people to think I was an old lady.” She attended a two-room country school and during her youth was named a Fair Farmerette. For two summers, lived on a farm cooking every meal and baking two pies every single day. After graduating high school, Claire attended Washington State College in Pullman, Washington, where she met her future husband, Roy Peterson, on a blind date over a Coke in the Cougar Cottage as freshmen in September 1941 and were married at her parents’ home Dec. 31, 1944 in Colfax, Washington. Claire graduated with a degree in business administration and economics from Washington State College. She and Roy relocated to Tillamook for a veterinary

position and Claire worked as a secretary in a law firm. The pair made a life in Tillamook and planted deep roots. Once the Petersons had settled into life in Tillamook, Claire became heavily involved in the community with countless organizations like AAUW, Tillamook School Board, Tillamook United Methodist Church, Shakespeare Club, Chairwoman of the local Red Cross, 4-H, her group of friends called “The Hens,” and hosted Japanese exchange students through the YMCA. Claire even had a hotel partially named in her honor: the bygone Mar Clair Inn. During retirement, Claire could always be found reading a book, laughing at the funnies in the daily Oregonian, volunteering at several organizations into her late 80s, tending her roses and other plants, visiting with friends and relatives near and far, and preparing delicious meals and her famous rhubarb pie. She and Roy loved to travel and meet new people – once, in the 1970s, the pair bought a Mercedes straight from the factory in Stuttgart, Germany and proceeded to drive it around Europe over the course of several weeks, visiting the home of their French exchange student Annick along with many other stops around the continent, before shipping it across the ocean to use back home – while wearing her leather driving gloves. Claire will always be remembered as an inexhaustible fountain of knowledge, the best maker of pie crust the world has ever known (she will say it is because of her cold hands) and an overall incredible woman. She is greatly missed by not only her family, but the community as well. Claire is survived by her husband of nearly 77 years, Dr. Roy H. Peterson and their children Ann (Richard), Jean (David), and Eric (Loretta). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and their children.

rank Salvo, 60, of Tillamook Oregon passed away suddenly on October 16, 2021 at his home in Garibaldi Oregon. Frank was born December 22, 1960 in Ogden Utah to the late Paul and Betty Salvo. He was the fourth of six children. Preceded in death by his father Paul, mother Betty, brother Mike and brother John survived by his siblings Bruce, Patrick and Lisa. Frank met his wife Sheila after relocating to Arizona in 1989. They met at work and quickly fell in love and soon were married on April 7, 1991 in a beautiful ceremony on top of Thumb Butte Mountain in Prescott, Arizona. Included in this ceremony were Sheila‘s daughters Desiree Duguay and Renee Duguay. Frank was so very proud of his new readymade family and was a wonderful addition that brought much love and security into their lives. A little over 3 years later, the family was blessed with the addition of a beautiful baby girl Katelyn and 2 years later another blessing of a beautiful baby son Joseph. Frank made a career of over more than 36 years in Produce. 16 of those years were spent in Idaho as a produce manager where he excelled greatly. He decided to step down from Management to pursue his dream of relocating to the beautiful Oregon coast, spending the last eight years of his career working at Fred Meyer in Tillamook, forming close connections with his fellow employees as well as many customers. Always eager with a listening ear, a caring heart along with a deep commitment to be of service to anyone in need. He will be missed by so many that were touched by his

life and his service. Frank struggled throughout his life to overcome abuses suffered in childhood. Unfortunately stigma, along with other issues inhibited him from accessing mental health services available to him. The family wishes that he would have reached out to Crisis support provided by Tillamook Family Counseling 503-842-8201 or National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 800-273-8255 to help him through his critical period of overwhelming distress. Frank enjoyed spending time with family, music (especially Pearl Jam) cooking, hiking, photography, walking on the beach, spending time outdoors, gardening, woodworking and sports. Frank is survived by his wife Sheila Salvo. Daughter, Katelyn Salvo. Son, Joseph Salvo. Jason and Desiree Rather. Son-inlaw and Daughter. Lacey and Logan Rather, granddaughter and grandson. Daughter, Renee Duguay and grandson Caiden Duguay Starr. In Lieu of flowers the family is suggesting making a donation to any Suicide prevention organization or favorite charity of your choice, as a way to honor and focus on the beauty of his life and dedication to the service of others. Spiritual services will be held at Oceanside Chapel in Oceanside, Oregon at 4:30 pm Saturday November 20, 2021, followed by a Celebration of Life Ceremony to include a buffet beginning at 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm at Oceanside Community Center in Oceanside, Oregon. aurie Ann Reynolds was born April 1st, 1964 in Newport, Oregon to Tedford Jacobson Sr. and Mary Kane and passed away November 7th, 2021 in Tillamook, Oregon. Laurie grew up in Tillamook and met her husband Morris in high school. They got married after graduation and raised their two girls Pamela and

Marlana. Laurie enjoyed crocheting, beading, reading and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. She was also a member of the Tillamook Eagles Lodge. Laurie leaves behind her husband Morris, daughter Pamela Esposito (Tony) and granddaughter Allyson, daughter Marlana Reynolds, three sisters; Rose Davis (Larry), Teresa Burdick (Dan) and Beverly Warren-Gregg (Ken), three brothers; Dale Jacobson (Norma), Wayne Jacobson (Penny) and Tedford Jacobson Jr., In-laws; Ron and Lynda Reynolds, Debbie Reynolds and John and Mary Reynolds, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. atricia (Pat) Faulhaber, one day following her 94th Birthday celebration; graduated to her heavenly home on Oct. 6. 2021, in Tillamook, Oregon. Pat was joined in marriage with her husband, Wallace Faulhaber, in Mt. Angel, Oregon. They celebrated their 77 anniversary this past Sept. 11th. Pat is survived by her husband, Wallace (Wally) Faulhaber, as well as her children, Timm (Ronda) Faulhaber of Nampa, Id., Cindy Miles (Dennis) Tillamook, Deb ( Chris ) Wilcox of Gleneden Beach, and Gail (Phil) DuBois of Trout Lake, Wa. She was

blessed by 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Pat was preceded in death by her son, Robert( Bob) Faulhaber and her daughter, Janice (Jan) Cline. During her busy years raising six children, Pat discovered her love of creating, which took many diverse forms of expression. She loved cooking, ( and her beloved cookbook collection), and while at home with her children, made the best pies in the world for a local restaurant. She had diverse interests during the 70 years here in Tillamook, that ranged from refinishing furniture to sewing, jewelry making, and in her later years, she made the most beautiful hand-crafted cards. During that time many family and friends were the fortunate recipients of her creative gifts. She was active in the community with Home Extension, involvement at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Eagles. After many years of being a stay-at-home Mom, Pat began working at Swiss Chalet ( Mr. Swiss), a local restaurant. She

usan Adele Keno McFarland, 75, passed Monday, November 8, 2021. She was born July 2, 1946 in Yakima, WA to Leland and Ada Keno. As a young girl her family moved to Portland, Oregon where she graduated high school and attended Pacific University for Business. She met her husband Lyle McFarland as a girl in her church fellowship and they grew up together. They married December 24, 1965. During their 55 years of marriage they lived in Portland, Oregon; Tucson, AZ; Vancouver, WA and settled in Tillamook in 1984. Susan enjoyed playing the piano and singing with made many lifelong friends during her time there. In the 1980s, Pat, along with her dear friend Fern Newvine, got adventurous, and opened the Why Knot Shop, teaching classes and offering supplies for macramé. Later in life, she was also active at the Senior Center, once again making new friends. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Those who wish to remember Pat in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the local animal shelter, United Paws, or the Humane Society. Pat was laid to rest following a Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church shared with friends and family this past Oct. 14th.
