ADULT FITNESS Cathy Neuschafer: Fit from head to toe Cathy Neuschafer is a certified personal trainer who is also a Certified Restorative Exercise Specialist and a Certified Healthy Foot Practitioner Cathy begin her own journey to fitness when, five years ago, she found herself 60 pounds overweight, tired, depressed, and “just feeling lousy.” She began a regimen to build muscle and get moving, and the more Cathy learned the more enthusiastic she became about health and fitness. This led to certifications from American Council on Exercise (ACE) and the Restorative Exercise Institute with the purpose of helping others feel good, too. “I know so many people who have limited abilities or pain because of lack of or incorrect movement,” Neuschafer says. “The body is a machine, and you can’t enjoy optimal health without performing basic maintenance on your body. Movement is critical to the health of your human machine and correct alignment is critical to pain-free movement.” Personal Training available at $35 per hour Cathy offers the following classes and workshops to help you get fit from head to toe: “Alignment Strength & Balance Class” The goal of this class is to develop a supple and stable core area, specific exercises to regain natural alignment, innervate the musculature of the entire body, and increase range of motion, functionality and blood flow. Learn to move without causing damage. Cathy provides a supportive, fun environment with “absolutely no crunches, weights or sit-ups!” Drop-ins are welcome. This class runs for four weeks, and repeats every eight weeks. “Walking is a natural human movement that is good for the entire body (and for the mind, too),” Cathy says. “The classes are taught barefoot and you will only need to bring – your feet!” Day: Thursdays (call for dates) Time: 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. Location: Yoga room in the Community Center Cost: $40 for each four-week class series “Introduction to Alignment” A FREE workshop held the first Saturday of the month (due to the July 4 holiday, the workshop will be held on July 12) to introduce students to this growing fitness movement and answer questions. DISASTER PREPAREDNESS Disaster Preparedness Guide The City of Lincoln City is continually improving its ability to respond to and deal with emergencies. Your responsibility is to prepare yourself and your family to survive until the City can respond. As a coastal resident, you may experience the following: • Damaging windstorms • Flooding • Severe beach erosion • Forest fires or urban fires • Earthquakes, which may generate tsunamis • Power outages caused by any or all of the above Your emergency plan should address the following: • • • • • • • • • •
Know where you live and work in relation to the evacuation zone. Find the new updated Tsunami Evacuation Maps (a north map and south map) for Lincoln City at the Community Center, City Hall, Cultural Center, Driftwood Public Library or Chamber of Commerce. Know the difference between a distant tsunami and a local one. They require a different response. (Ground shaking is your warning of a local tsunami.) Store enough food and medicine to last at least 72 hours. Use protective containers. Have a NOAA alert weather radio tuned to either 162.550 Otter Crest or 162.475 Mt. Hebo. Be sure to have battery backup. If you use a cell phone or cordless phone, we recommend you have an old-fashioned plug in phone for backup purposes. Have a battery-powered radio tuned to KBCH 1400 AM (Lincoln City) or KYTE 102.7 FM (Newport). Do not let your gas tank fall below half. Carry an emergency car kit in your car. Develop a family emergency plan that includes all hazards, a place to meet or third party for all family members to call. Have pet food, water, and a carrying case or leash/harness for pets. Have a “Grab and Go Kit” ready at home and at work, complete with emergency supplies.
For more information, please contact the Lincoln City Emergency Planner at 541-996-1202.
