When disaster strikes it is the first responders who jump into action, putting their lives on the line to help and protect us all. These brave individuals risk their lives every day through their selfless actions, working some of the most dangerous jobs. In a resolution in 2017, congress designated October 28 as National First Responders Day. We as a nation take this day to
show respect and appreciation towards all of those heroic people who are the first to arrive on the scene of an emergency. We salute our brave firefighters who charge into burning buildings without pause. We honor all of our upstanding law enforcement officers who go out every day, risking injury just to keep us safe. We pay tribute to every EMT, paramedic and all others
who rush in, before anyone else, to provide life-saving care to those in need. We are so grateful for these courageous people and the vital services they provide to us all. Here, in Tillamook County, we would like to pay special thanks to all of our first responders. Your dedication and bravery do not go unnoticed. Thank you to each and every individual one of you for all that you do!

Tillamook Fire District
The Tillamook Fire District firefighters in front of engine 71. The Tillamook Fire District operates out of three separate fire stations, serving both residents living within the district’s 97-square-mile boundary and those residing in the surrounding rural areas. Approximately 17,000 residents are provided both fire protection, rescue and emergency services by the Fire District. Three separate stations make up the Tillamook Fire District. Their main fire station, Tillamook - Station 71, is located inside the City of Tillamook at 2310 4th Street and houses most of the district’s apparatus and equipment. South Prairie - Station 72 is their satellite rural station which is located at 9975 South Prairie Road in Pleasant Valley. This location only houses Engine
72 and the old 1932 Seagraves engine. The third station, Station 73, resides in Cape Meares at 5925 8th Street Northwest. Volunteers work out of all three stations. Thirty volunteers and three paid staff members make up the Fire District. Fire Chief Jeff McBrayer leads this group of amazing men and women, who drop everything without a moment’s hesitation to jump into action when called. All members of the Fire District are part of what has become known as the Tillamook Volunteer Firefighter’s Association. The Fire District offers a variety of safety training programs for the public, to educate and inform on safe practices and fire prevention. School educational programs as well as fire
extinguisher training are among some of their offered programs. The Fire District does so much more than many may realize for their community. They provide lifesaving medical services at vehicle crashes and stop fires that spread from bonfires not properly put out along the beach. They rush to the scene of every fire they are called to, putting out vehicles, structures and brush and forest fires. When the Tillamook Fire District hears of an incident or need within the community, they step up and do what they can. Such was the case when volunteers for the Fire District heard about an out-of-town football game where a player became injured and emergency medical services were greatly delayed. As a result of this incident, they have made
it a priority to be at every home game, ensuring that emergency services will always be right there when needed. The care they have for their community is strong, always going beyond even fire and emergency services to help out. Recently the Tillamook Fire District stepped up to lend a hand in helping install the roof for a community member, making quick work of something that otherwise could have been much more difficult to accomplish. If you would like to volunteer, learn more about fire safety, burn permits and regulations, or get more information about their programs and the Fire District itself you can either stop by their primary location, visit their website: www.TillamookFireDistrict.com or call (503) 842-7587.
