Curry County is in the midst of an unprecedented surge of COVID-19. On Monday, the county reported more cases per capita than any other county in the state, according to data from the Oregon Health Authority. The 136 cases occurring over the weekend and reported Monday also illustrated a sharp uptick from the previous Monday when 55 cases were reported. The surge has moved the county’s running daily average for COVID-19 cases from 14 to 36. Additionally, from Friday to Sunday, the county saw a 20.4% test positivity rate. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 1,148 cases and 13 deaths linked to the virus. Ginny Williams, CEO of Curry Health Network, said the Delta variant seems to be hitting Southern Oregon especially hard
right now. “Southern Oregon really is the new hotspot for us. It used to be the Portland metro area and Washington, but this variant has definitely migrated and taken hold down here,” said Williams. According to Williams, each person infected with the Delta variant can transmit the disease to eight additional individuals, whereas those infected with previous strains could only infect about two people. Meaning, the virus can spread more quickly and to a greater number of people. “We are definitely testing more people, we are seeing a higher positivity rate, and we are seeing a younger population. We are continuing to see people seeking services in the emergency room,” said Williams. Fire officials discussed Oregon’s ongoing wildfire season, fire prevention and preparedness in a briefing Thursday. Leaders expressed concern of fire danger in relation to the high temperatures and drought conditions throughout the state. Nancy Hirsch, state forester for ODF, said fire conditions continue to worsen from drought and high temperatures. Five major complexes resulted in last week’s lightning, with a total of 100 fires. One single spark can start a fire that can spread quickly. Firefighters are challenged to continue with the pace of this fire season. “We can’t control the weather or fire starts from lightning,” Hirsch said, “We can and we must prevent how many human-caused fires we add to the landscape.” ODF’s Chief of Fire Protection Doug Grafe said this is a difficult fire season with a tough forecast of triple digit temperatures across much of the state this week. “We have, along with the challenging temperatures, likelihood of lightning,” Grafe said. “That’s a difficult forecast for us with lower humidity on top of the ongoing drought.” Lightning has contributed to many fire starts, including the Skyline Ridge Complex near Canyonville and the Middle Fork Complex near Oakridge. Oregon Fire Marshal Mariana Ruiz-Temple said there is a large amount of fire across all lands. “We as the general public are probably the number one helper in this,” Ruiz-Temple said. “We have a role.” Andrew Phelps, director of the Oregon Office of Emergency Management, said every Oregonian was in some way impacted by last year’s fire season, whether they were evacuated or experienced poor air quality from smoke. “We need to use these experiences of our past emergen-

Battling a labor shortage and a surge of COVID-19, local restaurants are finding it difficult to stay open. Patty Parke and Cathy Quinton, owners of Blue Water Cafe and Lounge in Brookings, recently closed down their 14-year-old restaurant temporarily because several of their staff members contracted COVID-19 — it was their fourth time closing since the beginning of the pandemic. “We had everybody tested and since we had more than one case, we called the health department and closed the restaurant for More Battle, Page A10
Bike the Rogue returning September 11 The Pilot The 11th annual Rotary Bike the Rogue bicycling event will take place Saturday, September 11, in Gold Beach. This spectacularly scenic event offers cyclists low traffic routes, along with good weather, great food and SAG support. Riders have their choice of
two different routes through this wild and remote southwestern corner of Oregon: 23 miles/1,100 vertical feet ($30.00), and 38 miles/2,000 vertical feet ($40.00). Both rides follow the banks of the mighty Rogue River, and cross three bridges. The 38-mile ride finishes along the Pacific Ocean, with panoramic views of beaches, sea stacks and
rugged coastline. A continental breakfast for all registered riders will be provided at the start to kick off the event. Well-stocked rest stations will be positioned every 7-15 miles along the route, and there will be a cold Arch Rock beer waiting for thirsty bikers at the end of their ride. to transfer patients in-need of intensive care from Curry General Hospital to ICUs without much delay, and there are still a few available beds at the hospital. Additionally, the health network has not yet had to activate its surge plan, which would pull nurses from other settings, including outpatient care, to treat COVID patients. However, Williams warned the situation may get worse, as state health officials are expecting the peak of the current surge to arrive sometime in September. Last week, Gov. Kate Brown announced the state would be deploying up to 1,500 National Guard members on August 20 to assist at hospitals overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients. According to the announcement, 500 National Guard members will be sent to more than 20 hospitals in Oregon to provide logistical support as materials handlers and equipment runners, as well as assisting with COVID-19

testing and other services. The same day, Brown also renewed a statewide mask mandate for indoor public spaces. Williams said the health network applied to bring in some of those National Guard members to assist at Curry General, and while they cannot provide advanced medical care, she said they could use the extra support. “They can definitely help us with patient-sitting, they can help us with screening, they can help us with testing, they can help us with vaccines, so there’s a lot they can do,” said Williams. To help curb the spread of the virus and ease the burden on health care workers, Williams urged the public to do their part. “We need to mask up and we need to distance. You need to wash your hands, and you need to be vaccinated if you haven’t been. I really do believe that is the public’s number one safeguard against this. We’ve slowed this down before and we could do it again, but it’s going to take a concerted effort,” she said. During the surge, St. Timothy’s Episcopal
Church in Brookings has been offering free COVID-19 testing and vaccines out of the church’s basement. On Monday, about 20 people were gathered on the lawn outside — either waiting for a shot or a test result. Guadalupe Calderón, an employee at South Coast Lumber Co., was one of many waiting for a test result. Calderón said he took a test because he was beginning to experience mild symptoms of COVID-19, and he wanted to know for sure. Earlier this month, South Coast Lumber Co. temporarily shut down, partially due to high-rates of COVID-19 among employees. Although, if Calderón tested positive, he said he was unlikely to have contracted it from the mill because he works alone for the most part. So far, 49.5% of Curry residents were fully vaccinated and an additional 7.6% had received at least one dose. The county is administering about 30 doses of vaccine per day, a steep decline from April when the county was giving out more than 300 shots per day. Curry’s vaccination
rate is ranked 20th of the 36 counties in Oregon. Recently, the Centers for Disease Control recommended COVID-19 booster shots for immunocompromised individuals, including those who have received chemotherapy, an organ transplant, or have an immunodeficiency. Additionally, the Coast Community Health center in Port Orford is hosting COVID-19 testing from 1:30-4:30 p.m. and vaccines from 8:20-11:40 a.m. St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Brookings is hosting COVID-19 testing from 12-3 p.m. Monday-Saturday and giving out vaccinations from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday. Obituaries
Gregory Galen Jacques Greg lost a hard battle with recurring esophageal cancer after 6 years of being cancer free. His friends and family remember him as being larger than life. He could fill a room with his stories and laughter. Greg moved to Brookings with his family in 1954. He attended Brookings schools, graduating in 1962. He excelled at sports and relieved many college offers for football, settling on Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz. Greg joined the Army in 1965. He was selected for Special Forces and served with both the 10th and 5th SFG. He was with the 220 Mobile Strike Force in Plekiu.
He received a Bronze Star for Valor, a Combat Medic Badge and Purple Heart while working with the Montanyards in the Vietnamese Highlands. After leaving the service he attended Portland Community College before coming back to Brookings to work for his Dad, Red Jacques. He lived in Alaska and worked king crabbing and retired after many years from Tidewater Contractors. Greg was preceded in death by his parents Red and Margie Jacques. He leaves behind his wife of 41 years Brenda, sisters, Debi and Candy, sons Vince, Ryan, Colin, Tom and Todd, daughters Kara and Josie,

Curry Students Success Fund continues to help local students The Curry Student Success Fund offer scholarships to graduating high school students of private, Christian, home school, GED or public school backgrounds and to graduated students continuing their education. Awards are made to students attending a public or private college, trade school, training program, or a certification program. The Curry Student Success Fund is a nonprofit 501c3. Since 2018, it has provided 26 local scholarships. This year's scholarship recipients are Tiffany

When wildfire keeps coming back By Char Miller Poor Butte County, California, is again on fire, its smoke choking the air of states miles away. Nestled in the Northern Sierras, Butte County is home to Chico State University, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., and portions of two national forests. Almost half its 220,000 residents live in metro Chico. Over the past four years, the county has now become known for the wildfires that keep coming back. This summer, the Dixie Fire torched more than 559,000 acres of pine, cedar and fir, 1,000 homes and pushed deep into neighboring Plumas County. Last year, the lightning-ignited Bear Fire merged with others to become the 318,000-acre North Complex fire. It killed 16, injured 100 and burned up several towns. In 2018, the 150,000-acre Camp Fire proved a holocaust: 85 people died, the town of Paradise famously was engulfed in flames, and more than 18,000 structures burned. It was the deadliest and most destructive inferno in California history. Unfortunately, these almost-annual fires in Butte County have become part of the larger pattern across the 21st-century West. A new wrinkle is that these three fires even re-burned some acreage burned earlier. And it will happen again. That’s one of the takeaways from the recent report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, containing some of the most-dire warnings this UN organization has ever issued. By century’s end, the planet may have warmed by 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit. A hotter Earth will trigger “progressively serious, centuries' long and, in some cases, irreversible consequences.” Wildland wildfire is a lead indicator. By now, every Westerner knows that our climate-driven drought, when combined with skyrocketing temperatures (Portland hit 113 degrees in June), has extended fire seasons and accelerated fire intensity. The UN’s Climate Change report adds that these factors may double the potential burnable areas. Butte County’s harrowing experience underscores this prediction. To date, the National Interagency Fire Center reports more than 39,590 fires nationally have burned 3.7 million acres. Of the 108 major fires burning in mid-August, Montana led the pack with 25, Idaho had 21, Oregon and Washington each had 14, and California had 11. The expansiveness of these wildfires is also evident in their smoke plumes. Particulate matter from the 410,000-acre Bootleg Fire, still chewing through Oregon’s Fremont-Winema National Forest, first spilled into western Washington, Nevada, Idaho and Montana, producing some of the nation’s worst air quality index
readings. It then wafted east to darken New England’s skies before drifting over Europe. Western fires have a very long reach. Their extent will soon be amplified. The remarkably hot and dry conditions, from the Rockies to the Cascades, sucked moisture out of the soil and desiccated chaparral and sage, pine, oak and fir. As in the past, California may suffer the most damage; traditionally its mega-blazes erupt between August and November. Yet that tradition has been badly singed: Significant fires now ignite every month of the year. Since January 2021, more than 6,272 fires have burned 917,000 acres in California. Climate change is causing these earlier burns, according to CAL FIRE, the state’s firefighting agency: “Warmer spring and summer temperatures, reduced snowpack, and earlier spring snowmelt create longer and more intense dry seasons that increase moisture stress on vegetation and make forests more susceptible to severe wildfire.” These factors have increased the Sierras’ fire season by 75 days. There are no easy fixes to this crisis exacerbated by human-caused climate change. But there are three interventions we can put into effect right now: • Accelerate the careful reinsertion of fire into the landscape, as Indigenous fire managers have long practiced. It brings significant cultural, ecological and forest benefits. • Radically reduce greenhouse gas emissions wherever possible. Over time, this should moderate some of their generative impact on Western wildfires. • Enact rigorous limitations on new housing in fire zones. States with sprawling foothill and canyon developments would do well to copy California, which this spring took part in a lawsuit challenging the construction of a massive subdivision. The houses are slated for a High Severity Fire Zone in frequently burned Lake County. Whatever the effectiveness of these and other strategies, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is clear about the consequences of continued inaction. The rising generation will shoulder the heavy costs resulting from our indecision. As the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel put it baldly, “Life on Earth can recover from a drastic climate shift by evolving into new species and creating new ecosystems. Letters to the editor Misinformation from the City Council Brookings City Manager Janell Howard is spreading misinformation about COVID. At the recent city council meeting, she made several comments about the COVID tests given at St. Timothy's as not 'real' tests. This puts her in the same league as Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida and Greg Abbott, governor of Texas, states where people are dying because of their misinformation. Ms. Howard is wrong. St. Timothy's is virtually the only source of a COVID test in Brookings and it is very 'real' and certified. St. Tim's also offers all three versions of the COVID vaccine and something else you will not find at city hall these days, compassion and very real help. Where are the city postings about how to stay safe during this time when the COVID numbers in Brookings are soaring? Why have the county health services failed? The city and the county are both failures while St. Tim's is saving the day. Tell me again why the city of Brookings is trying to shut down St. Timothy's. Ann Williams Brookings
America’s nightmare The 2020 election mistake has turned into a nightmare. It took President Trump three years to establish the United States as energy independent. It only took Biden four months to increase gas prices 100 percent and make us once again dependent on OPEC. Too much money chasing too few goods causes inflation. It only took Biden six months to send inflation surging. His obsession with printing more money will only make inflation rage to heights not seen since the 1970s. Biden’s support of the Democrats ‘defund the police,’ ‘demonize the police’ and ‘eliminate the police’ has sparked the greatest increase of violent crime our county has ever seen. President Trump solved illegal immigration at our Southern border. Stay in Mexico, rapid asylum judgements, Title 42 evictions and building the wall had the entire situation under control. No caravans and no surges. It took Biden’s encouragement to ‘come’ and ‘surge the border ‘one month to bring about the greatest human tragedy our Southern border has ever seen. Thousands of children are being pulled from their parents arms by the cartels to follow Biden’s
‘children won’t be sent back’ policy. A Democratic orchestrated invasion. And now we learn Biden is shipping COVID positive illegals all around the county causing the biggest ‘super spreader’ event in COVID history. If Biden’s domestic disasters aren’t enough, there’s Afghanistan. President Trump maintained control of the country with just 2,500 troops while trying to come to some agreement with the Taliban for dual government rule. Biden wasted those efforts and has allowed the Taliban to take over the entire county in just weeks using millions of dollars of American military weaponry. The coming bloodbath belongs to Biden. In seven short months Biden and his administration have become this country’s greatest nightmare of all time.

Take a law class Get off your high horse. A few years back our now convicted felon, former sheriff issued a proclamation letter to the media proclaiming that he would not enforce a non-existing law that would require him to take away our citizen's guns. Now our Curry County Board of Commissioners proclaims that it will not enforce non-existing COVID lockdown restrictions. Both of these arguments were based on their decision of how they are interpreting the enforcement of our U.S. Constitutional rights. These rights and the manner in which laws may be enforced are only to be determined by the courts, ultimately the Supreme Court, not small county sheriffs and commissioners. Obituaries
Robert (Bob) Thain May 27, 1936 – August 2, 2021 Robert (Bob) Thain passed away peacefully Monday, August 2, 2021 at age 85 following a brief illness. He was born in Portland, OR on May 27, 1936 to Robert & Thelma. The family moved to a ranch in Walnut Creek, CA a few years later and so began his lifelong “Western Way of Life”. He grew up around horses, riding his horse to the meat market in town for his mother and even to school. The family went to the famous Cow Palace Rodeo every year. Bob attended Acalanes High School where he excelled mainly in football. When he was drafted, he was sent to Germany to play football for the U.S. Army. Upon his return he enrolled at Diablo Valley College, again concentrating on football. Newly married, his wife Marilynn and his father cautioned him that he would need to find a “real” job that would provide a decent income. Bob commented many times that his Pops would never believe the salaries of pro football players. Bob did go to work for his dad’s printing company which made the plates to print milk cartons. He
traveled all over the U.S. & Mexico, establishing a printing plant in Mexico to also produce milk cartons. During his travels, he met a man who hired him to sell tickets for his circus company. Promotion suited Bob well so he looked for other opportunities. Along came Mr. Rodeo, Cotton Rosser, thus began Bob’s involvement and love of the sport of rodeo. The “big man in the white hat” lived an adventurous life and had a fulfilling career. Bob originally partnered with Dave Johnson to form Thain & Johnson Enterprises. They were selling tickets to concerts, circus and racing events when the opportunity to promote rodeo entered the picture. Bob & Dave became the largest rodeo promotion company in the country, producing 30 rodeos in 21 states every year, including Hawaii and Alaska. Based in Santa Cruz, CA, Bob was on the road and in the sky 40 weeks a year, with numerous offices and thousands of temporary staff to oversee. This took a toll on his marriage and he & Marilynn divorced, remaining friends for the rest of his life. Bob en-
joyed trap shooting during his limited spare time which is where he met his current wife, Linda, and they shared over 35 years of a wonderful loving relationship. They established their home at their Thom’s Creek Ranch in Alturas, CA where they raised longhorn cattle and miniature burros. They divided time between Reno, the ranch and a summer home in Gold Beach, OR where they moved full time a few years ago. Bob and Dave dissolved their partnership and Bob moved his base of operations to Reno, NV, as Bob Thain Productions. In 1985, when the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association was going through tough times, Harry Vold
and Shawn Davis asked Bob and Eldon Evans to head the reorganization efforts as Co-Commissioners of the new PRCA. When they took over, volunteering their time, the PRCA was $200,000 in debt. When they left a year later, the organization had 1 million in the bank. For his tremendous contribution, Bob was awarded the PRCA Man of the Year in 1987. Bob was a people person. His productions always had the fans in mind, with family tickets a priority, and he not only wanted the best stock and contestants, but quality singers and entertainment as well. His sponsors were mainly law enforcement and firemen organizations as their fund-raisers, whom he always paid up front, a novel concept which led to years-long relationships of mutual respect and appreciation. Among his many productions was a rodeo at the Rose Bowl which still holds the record for a one day rodeo with attendance of over 52,000. His work with the PRCA led to his involvement with the National Finals Rodeo and their move from Oklahoma
Thomas John Schmidt June 6, 1959 – June 25, 2021 Thomas John Schmidt entered this world in Curry General Hospital in Gold Beach, Oregon on June 6, 1959. His parents were John Thomas Schmidt (Smitty, the Barber) of Mandan, North Dakota and Vivian Clara Henkes of Stenen, Saskatchewan Canada. He was the youngest of three children. His oldest sister, Shereen Scheuneman currently resides with her husband Gus in Longwood, Florida. His older sister Pam Bay (deceased) was a long-time resident of Myrtle Creek, Oregon. Tom was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Gold Beach, which his family helped build, until he became a member (with his sisters’ blessings) of Bethany Lutheran Church of Gold Beach in 2003. He was an SDA Pathfinder and a member of the wrestling and football teams at Gold Beach High School where he also played the trumpet, trombone, harmonica, and guitar. He had many jobs growing up including picking berries, stringing crab pots, logging for various outfits in Curry County, longshoreman with his dad in Curry and Coos Counties, banking in Portland, and produce manager in Northern California. Most notably, he became an excellent chef and worked for various restaurants in Gold Beach (Spadas, Spinners, The Riverview restaurants) and Pappy Gander’s in Merrill, Oregon; but the
job he loved the most was when he became the best Dietary Cook at Curry General Hospital from March 1, 2005 – May 19, 2021. He prepared the meals with love and nourished the souls of many patients and family members, staff, visitors, and residents of Curry County through the Hospital’s Curry Café. Tom has three amazing children, Robert (42), Brianna (36), and Heather (35), and a great stepson Scott (41). He has six beloved and wonderful grandchildren, Austin (20), Paige (12), Maci (11), Seth (11), Dean (7), and Adie (5). He also loved spending time with his sister Pam’s son, Kevin (42), and her grandson, Austin (13), and her granddaughter Becky (21). Tom met the love of his life, Laura, who had just arrived in Gold Beach from the East Coast on June 16, 2003, on a blind date set up by Rita at the Fairgrounds Halloween Party, Saturday, November 1, 2003. It was love at first sight for the costumed San Francisco’s 49ers fan and the sexy witch. He proposed to Laura on November 1, 2004, had their engagement party in 2005, and was happily and forever married on June 3, 2006 at Bethany Lutheran Church. Tom followed in his dad’s footsteps (who was a volunteer Gold Beach Firefighter and Fire Chief in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s) and became a Firefighter and First Responder in
Gold Beach from 2003 to 2016. He loved the commitment, training, and responsibilities of being part of the team. He loved working with the kids at Riley Creek Elementary School doing Fire Safety events, he was the best “Ham Man” cook at the annual Firefighter Breakfast Fundraiser, and especially enjoyed driving the firetrucks at the annual Curry County’s Fair parade and helping to set off the July 4th Fireworks at the Port of Gold Beach. Tom loved music and must have attended well over 500 concerts ranging from 50’s music all the way up to the current hits. But what Tom and his wife Laura enjoyed the most besides kayaking, camping, singing in the church choir, and their animals was fundraising for local charities especially groups that helped children. Tom helped set up, clean up, advertise, participate in, and helped prepare the best food for fundraisers that included Curry Cares for Kids (a local dental program); Gold Beach Snack Pack Program, Wally’s House, Gold Beach Youth Fund; Summer Camp for Developmentally Disabled Children and the list goes on and on. Tom, through Bethany Lutheran church, Thrivent, and the Bar None Group of Gold Beach (which he was a member since 11/12/2003) also helped with activities that included Valentine’s Day and Mothers’ Day Lun-

Bob served on the PRCA Board of Directors for 19 years, 3 as Chairman, 18 years on the NFR Board of Directors, the Executive Director of the Pro Rodeo Stock Contractor’s Association, was General Manager of the successful Benny Binion’s Bucking Horse & Bull Sale for 8 years, and produced the National Senior Finals Rodeo for 5 years. He edited and produced the glossy coffee table book “100 Years of Rodeo Stock Contracting” which sold out and is now a collector’s item. He represented the PRCA during the Canadian Finals Rodeo many times and the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics Special Rodeo. Bob produced the 2002 Winter Olympics Rodeo in Ogden, Utah, as well as a special production for the world downhill skier championships in 2000. During his years selling tickets for the Reno Rodeo, they increased their production from a 3-day rodeo to their current 10 days. He was honored and proud to be inducted into
the ProRodeo Hall of Fame as a Notable in 1999. Bob was retired from the NFR Board of Directors during a ceremony in the arena in front of 17,000 fans during the 2005 NFR and officially retired from business in 2008 but never stopped his interest and involvement in the sport of rodeo. He leaves behind many treasured friends and admirers in that world. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mitzi and niece Shari. Bob was a good man and will be sorely missed by his loving wife Linda, her 2 children, 2 grandchildren and 6 great- grandchildren, his nephew Jon (Laura) Goens, his friend and former wife Marilyn (Dave) Zittlow, numerous relatives and long time friends. Bob wanted his legacy to be that he left the rodeo business better than he found it. He would appreciate any contribution honoring his life be made to the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, CO. At his direction, there will be no services. Bob will be remembered at a memorial during the National Finals Rodeo in December 2021, Las Vegas.

While Curry County saw a slight decrease in unemployment during the month of June, the county’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate of 7.3% is the third highest among the 36 counties in Oregon, according to a recent report from the state employment department. According to the report, there were about 600 unemployed individuals
in the county during June, which is a significant decrease from last June when more than 1,000 people were out of work. Despite the gains, Rob Krebs — owner of Black Trumpet Bistro — said there still are not enough workers to fill the gaps. Krebs said he would need about four more employees to consider his restaurant, which is only open five days a week, fully-staffed. Additionally, Krebs said the labor shortage at his restaurant has led to a decrease in morale among the employees that he does have. “It’s got everybody at a heightened sense of exhaustion. There’s a lot of unnecessary tension between employees right now due to being overworked and tired. I think that’s spilling over into our guests and our dining room,” said Krebs. According to Krebs, restaurants are also being compounded by staffing problems higher up the supply chain. He said one of his food suppliers recently told him they would only be able to send him a portion of his order, and a different ven-

A local woman became the first female lawyer-deacon in the Lutheran tradition when she was ordained to the public ministry roster of Word and Service in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America during the Sunday morning service held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in San Francisco on July 25, 2021. Newly-minted Deacon Cora Rose grew up attending Trinity Lutheran Church in Brookings and credits the teaching and example of its pastor (then Rev. Dr. Gordy Myrah) and members for instilling values of service and compassion from an early age. Bishop Laurie Larson Caesar of the Oregon Synod (a synod is a regional division of the ELCA denomination) presided at the service; Rev. Elizabeth Ekdale, lead pastor at St. Mark’s, preached. Also in attendance were Bishop Megan Rohrer of the Sierra Pacific (northern California) Synod; Sister Noreen Stevens, Directing Deaconess of the Deaconess Community of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; and friends, family, and congregants at St. Mark’s.
