Owner Karen Roberts, who was born and raised in the UK, is celebrating nearly eight years in business and prides herself on offering authentic products. The City of Brookings has officially kicked off its 23rd annual Yard of the Month program, established in 2002, by recognizing its first-ever recipients for outstanding property aesthetics. This year, a residential property honoring a beloved memory and a popular local eatery have earned the inaugural honors. The program, which runs from May through September, celebrates attractive residential and commercial properties located within city limits. Monthly award recipients receive a $50 credit on their

water bill, a commemorative certificate and a sign proudly displayed on their property. Barbara Price has been recognized for her deeply personal and beautifully executed home landscape. In 2023, Barbara, alongside Bryan Rapraeger of BCR Land Management LLC, designed and brought to life a landscape that pays tribute to her late husband's dream of living by a river. A unique feature of her design is a barrel from which green flowers emerge, eventually transforming into a vibrant blue when in full bloom, symbolizing the flowing water her husband cherished. On the commercial front, Pancho's Restaurant & Bar received the nod for its inviting exterior.

Owner Scott Larson accepted the award on behalf of the Pancho's family, joined by General Manager Josh Pearson and Assistant Manager Maryjane Carlson. The recognition highlights Pancho's commitment to enhancing the city's commercial landscape. The Yard of the Month program serves as a testament to the dedication of Brookings' property owners and businesses who go above and beyond to beautify their spaces, contributing to the overall attractiveness of the entire city. Fatal Crash

Claims Port Orford Man on Highway 101 PRESS RELEASE A Port Orford man died Thursday evening, May 15th, after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 101 in Curry County. Authorities say Wylie Joe Summerlin, 62, was not wearing a seatbelt. Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to the scene near milepost 300 at approximately 6:21 p.m. A preliminary investigation indicates Summerlin was driving a northbound Jeep Patriot when he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway. The vehicle left the highway and struck a tree. Summerlin was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The crash did not impact traffic on Highway 101 during the on-scene investigation. OSP was assisted at the scene
