who will have the honor of serving as the 2026 Azalea Festival Grand Marshals. The Wilsons will be celebrating their 56th year as residents of Brookings. Having both served as teachers in the Brookings-Harbor School District, they are well-known to multiple generations of the local community. The Azalea Festival Pageant and Queen Coronation will take place a couple of weeks before the big event. The pageant will be at the Brooking Elks Lodge at 6 PM, May 2. The City of Brookings made a series of announcements concerning this year’s Azalea Fest. Curry County’s summer kick-off staple will return to Brookings from May 22 to 25, filling the area with festive events to start the season off right! It was announced that this year’s theme would be “Living in Paradise,” highlighting how lucky we are to call this gorgeous stretch of the Oregon coast home. Congratulations are in order for Dick and Ruth Wilson,
members, or at the door for $15. Most beloved annual events will be returning this year. The Street Market on Frontage Road will be chock-full this year, with every vendor slot having already been filled. Friday night will see the return of the Friday Night
Dance Party, kicking off the weekend at Azalea Park. Stakeholder events will take place all weekend, including the Kids' Fishing Pond on Saturday morning, and the Curry County Cruisers Car Show on Saturday and Sunday. The Quilt and
Art shows are back, as well as Sunday Airport Day. The Brookings-Harbor Garden Club will be holding their Plant Sale and Flower Show ad their botanical garden. Please see AZALEA FEST Page 3
Country Sheriff rescues an injured visitor on the trail to Secret Beach
FROM THE CURRY COUNTY SHERIFF DEPARTMENT On March 15, 2026, at about 1:41 pm, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Dispatch received a 911 call from a Glendale, Arizona resident, Misty Osberg (43), reporting that she had fallen on the trail down to Secret Beach, and that she believed her ankle was broken.

Dispatch notified the two on-duty CCSO deputies and an Oregon State Trooper, who then responded. Dispatch also requested Cal Ore Life Flight, along with the Brookings Fire Department. The Curry County SAR team was paged out to respond as well. Secret Beach is about seventeen miles south of Gold Beach off U.S. Highway 101. First responders located Osberg about three-quarters
of the way down the Secret Beach trail, where a few bystanders were standing by with Osberg. Medical units attended to Osberg’s injury, and then Osberg was carried back to the parking lot, where she was transported to Curry General Hospital. The Curry County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank those who assisted in getting Osberg back to the parking lot and to Curry General Hospital.
