Curry County Cruisers Appreciation Day BY NATE SCHWARTZ Curry Coastal Pilot

The Curry County Cruisers Car Club has been building community and putting on car shows on the South Coast for the better part of four decades. Established in 1987, the Cruisers have been holding monthly meetings, organizing huge exhibitions, and spreading the gas-powered gospel to all who will listen, while contributing to great local causes in the process. “The Cruisers got started with a group of enthusiasts about classic cars in the BrookingsHarbor area. Brookings-Based Rookie Racer Finishes Top-8 in NHRA Pacific Division LAS VEGAS, NEV. - Racers representing facilities across Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, and Hawai’i traveled to compete at the National Hot Rod Association’s Pacific Division Finals, held October 10-13, 2024, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Two racers from Samoa Drag Strip in Humboldt County, CA made the journey to Las Vegas to compete after meeting the event’s qualification criteria based on their season performances at Samoa Drag Strip. One racer was Brookings native Codi Kirksey.

Craig Merrilees (Windsor, Calif.) entered the Pacific Division Finals as the two-time, defending NHRA Pacific Division Champion in Street Electric Vehicle, and was National Champion of the category in 2022. Merrilees also held invitations to the race in Super Pro E.T. Eliminator, winning four races and the season championship at Samoa Drag Strip, and as well as in Pro E.T.
